Press beta and BW1 we had Achievement Chest, they would spawn at our feet and there were a lot a complaints both from the press and from players that they were easy to miss. They were removed them due to those complaints and achievement rewards are now accessed via the popup chest near the map.

Not to mention WvW loot bags which also have had many complaints about them.

Now to Uncommon Loot Chests, why have we gone backwards?

The complaint about WvW loot bags is that the items don’t automatically appear in your inventory. The system itself is greatly favored over the PvE system of loot on the corpse.

I honestly don’t know how it can be argued that the loot chest is in any way worse than how things worked on 1/27. At the absolute worst, there is no difference between the two systems.

Re WvW loot bags: in the early beta’s it was the pve system of loot, which was then replaced by bags than by bags at feet.

Why the loot chest is worse, the chest are harder to find than bodies for one thing (especially with lots of particle effects/bloom). For another it fix a non-existent problem. I get the whole you know when there is nicer loot but from playing today I got a few greens and bags (wth) from them, from an immersion standpoint why would you know before hand that you are getting decent loot?

To be perfectly fair, I walk around smashing the F key after killing things anyway.

The only time I actually noticed a chest was earlier today. I looted a pair of exotic gauntlets from a dead mob, that MUST have come from a loot chest… but I did not even notice the chest, since it was just routine to push F over the dead body of an enemy.

Much later in the day, I killed Lt. Kholer, but was unable to loot him immediately, since I had fallen off of a ledge and had to run back up. When I made it topside, I saw the wooden chest in the location where i killed Kholer, and looted it the same way I would loot a corpse.

I don’t see how either of these two scenarios are going backwards. They function the exact same way as looting a dead body, except now players can tell if there is loot worth picking up if they are not simply autolooting everything to begin with.

I secretly wish we would just get the loot in our bags after the kill rather than having to mindlessly smash the F key.

Well, there goes my secret!

Does anyone have a link to a screenshot of the chest? I’m returning after an absence and have not seen one yet. I fear I’m overlooking them.

I really dislike the uncommon loot chests, they are so easy to miss.

They take a second to spawn after the mob dies, so when you’re in a fast paced dungeon, it’s easy to miss them when you take a split second to check if the interact option pops up on the mob that just died before moving to the next mob that is being fought.

Also, they don’t spawn exactly where the mob died, near it’s corpse, but not on top of it.

Their sparkle effect is hard to notice normally, even harder on certain terrain, or corpse piles.

Wish they would just go with a different color sparkle effect for a corpse with better quality loot, like pinkish/purplish sparkles for higher quality.

Different coloured sparkles sounds awesome, or a light beam or something, reminds me of the heartstopping awesome of seeing a RED BOX in phantasy star online.

The loot chests are actually easier to see then the sparkling corpses. Your show tags key, default Ctrl, shows their name and you can spot them much easier. Unlike the normal sparkling corpse you can mouse over and have the hand cursor, which is the same for any item you can pick up.

I like the WvW system as the loot comes to you, but it’s highly annoying when being on the move so much. The loot system I like the most is one where you use a key and the loot comes to you and in your bags. I haven’t seen a loot system where you were just given the loot without any kind of “pick up” interaction, but that would be most ideal for situations like WvW.

items appearing in inventory automatically sounds good. whatever we can remove from that poor F key is a step forward. while im talking of F key: please remove all those useless npc conversations from game completely! im talking about dungeon/ event npc’s that we have to babysit. they give no useful information.

Several issues here.

Why are trash drops, trophies and bags part of tje chest loot table? Hell why evem blus or greens for that matter?

Why does the “Res downed/dead player” key have to be the same as the loot corpse key? Thats super troll.
