80 lvl Norn Ranger
Seafarer’s Rest
So i noticed many times so far, when i start farming some crafting mats in first ~ 20- 30 kills every or every 2nd mob drops something.
As you continue to kill them, drop significantly start falling down. Talked with lots of guild mates and they have same experience.
I’ve heard that in GW1 there was mechanic that “prevents” you from over farming same dungeons by decreasing drop chance if you do them over and over again. ( Thats not official, might be rumor )
If there is mechanic like that in GW2 can we get some official response on that matter please. Just so we know where we stand, thank you
I must say i’ve had the same feeling more than once since I’ve got to level 80, I second the request for an official statement on the matter! :-)

I can’t speak much to it in GW2 yet as I’ve only just gotten it and still installing, but in GW1 they did put this in several years ago to combat certain “illegal farming”, but it only really ended up hurting those of us legitimately farming for gear or gold.
Think its same here in GW2
There is most def an anti-farm system in GW2.You can see it simply by killing mobs in a same area for some time-after a while every 5-6th mob drops anything, and most of the time its junk trophies.I understand that this was put in to combat gold farmers and bots, but it seriously ruins anyone doing legit farming to buy t3 armor or something
I was wondering about this yesterday myself. While not “farming”, rather, trying to get to a Vista. The mobs in the area I was in were literally respawning a second after I looted them. This went on for over ten minutes before I gave up and kiting them away.
I mention this because, for the first 12 kills or so I picked up lots of crafting mats and a few green items. But after that, they dropped nothing.
So, the spawn rates suggest encouraged farming, yet punish its’ own design with an anti-farm code?
So any chance we get some official response on this?
If they are going to have an anti-farm code. I want some sort of message when it’s time to “move on”.
They do have an antifarm code which is punishing legit players from playing the game. From reading guru/reddit it was memtioned in one of the previous patch notes I believe, and it has also been tested.
In summery, it is a fact that there is an anti-farm code, and it is also quite annoying. We are essentially being punished for the actions of bots.
yea there is anti farm, there are certain areas at 80 with large amounts of endlessly spawning enemies where groups of 20+ players sit and farm.
its common knowledge once the drops go south you gotta leave the zone and spend time doing something else before you can come back.
It’s very annoying. They put in these HUGE grinds to get just about anything at level 80 and then they prevent you from grinding.
I guess it is to make everything take arbitrarily longer, but it just makes me want to not play when after 20 minutes I stop getting loot.
Same for XP/Karma. Just log out and reconnect.
Go do the same grinding somewhere else. Kill variety is pretty important in this game.
I’m going to be making a large post about this with 20 or more screen shots proving how severely we are being punished. Even if there are other such posts, well now we’ll have one more by me.
Moving to a new area (where you can still farm) or relogging supposedly fixes it.
How stupid of a command decision is that? The casual player is punished and the player out to abuse the game mechanics (which they should change internally then shouldn’t they? Their own fault for not testing anything beyond Gendarran Fields in beta and only relying on the alpha team) is able to circumvent the anti-farming…..
I’m beginning to think (I never truly thought ArenaNet would) that it’s designed to require a large amount of materials which we are unable to gather simply to get the Whale customers to buy more Gems for Gold. Honestly, it is the only reason. Otherwise, the drop rate would simply be adjusted and left alone.
Instead, we go from normal, to absolute zero drops. Nothing. The only reason that makes sense is for people to get frustrated and then simply cave to spending real life money.
And my account has already financially supported Anet enough. I bought my character slots, bank space, pirate outfit, and some dye. I more than did my share of supporting the game, so I’m not being cheap about this. I’m upset that I need to spend even more time doing something I don’t want to do when I should have been able to commit time and move on once. Not over and over and over.
So far, I rezoned and all mobs were not dropping anything. I also tried doing a Dynamic Event and Renown Heart and some resource gathering to “reset” the “we’re punishing you for killing mobs” debuff. No luck yet…..
I wonder if those magic find boosters they sell let items keep dropping.
I’m not sure I get this mentality if you start seeing diminishing returns on activity go elsewhere… I dont see the problem unless your farming one boss for loot or a series of chests or whatever. Its not like there is not plenty of places to go to harvest or adventure to get items. Even mining or whatever just go to a new zone or switch characters. IO just do not get the aspect of gaming that farmers have. do they even have an ethic at all? I mean its a game not work.. play it dont farm it. but hey if thats what you enjoy by all means go ahead.. I just dont get it. you could be doing anything in this game but your wanting to rinse and repeat the same thing over and over and over again? That truly seems boring to me if thats all you do.
Love the logic here…
I am against farming bots
I support manual farming
huh?
Well no. We are talking about a difference here. Like if I need mats to lvl up smithing and i need small teeth, I can gokill low lvl skelks or drakes or whatever. but afer a few kills they stop dropping teeth and you need an awful lot of them if you want to persue a crafting profession. So you can either go out and kill the mobs yourself in which they stop dropping what you need after a few kills or you buy them from the tp. I myself would much rather prefer going out and gather what I need then having to resort to buying it from others.
And there is really no reason to have to go to another spot on the map to kill the same mobs for the same drop because the current location stops giving you what you need.

Funny enough, no. You use one and hit the anti-farm code long before it wears out, making it somewhat pointless to buy them.
I kinda had the same feeling when I was farming for Jute… Hrmp interesting.
After selling I have no idea how many bits of jute, teeth so on…
Look guys don’t farm in a spot. It is that simple. You want lots of a particular kind of drop, suck it up and farm the -zone-.
I mean the whole thing start walking out the gate at a low zone and keep going area to area farming everything you can. Get the copper, the wood.. the herbs the animals.. pick up events as you go across them but don’t DON’T stay. Keep going.
You won’t hit the farm code, you will have bags that are annoyingly full. Stop and throw what you don’t want on the broker.
Is this hard to figure out?
Same here, think it is… it kitten shouldn’t be
There is anti bot system, tl;dr the more times you kill one type of mob, the worse loot you get. For more info do your research on reddit.
