Hi,

when is loot generated, on a monster kill or on a monster loot?

So, if I kill a monster, does its corpse already contain pregenerated items or do these items generate on loot action?

My guess is immediately on monster death, because those chests that appear when there is a rare or exotic item appear over its corpse immediately, as if the loot is already defined.

Thank you

The looted items are triggered by the kill of a monster, for the reasons you’ve mentioned there. If the monster drops a rare or exotic for you, there’s a visible chest for it that appears before you actually click the “AoE autoloot” button.

My understanding was that the loot rarity is determined upon monster death, but the actual loot item is rolled for upon picking it up. I think it was John Smith who had said something about this back in the archived Black Lion Trading Company forum. If I had time I’d try to look it up for you.

I remember this too.

Loot is produced at kill, This is when it takes your magic find and applies it to the drop. If the drop is a rare or greater it assigns a special model and name to the drop to inform you of the special find.

So always make sure you have magic find food before picking up that juicy exotic chest that you see waiting for you?

If it’s in a bag, the loot items are generated when the bag is opened.
