Are you sure that you represent that guild you want to represent on your alts?

When you represent on one of your characters it does not always represent on your alts.

To represent a guild, press ‘G’, target the guild on the tab and press ‘Represent’.

This also happens to me, but I also lose the previous map chat. I think it has to do with, since each toon can be in a different guild, they don’t want multiple guild chats over lapping. Also your whispers are account bound, I think.

I honestly don’t know why it does it, but above is just my idea about why.

repping is character based, not account based, so you have to actively click the button to rep your guild with each character that you have, and any new characters that you make. if you’re not repping, you won’t be able to read guild chat.

if, however, you’ve already done that, then it’s a bug.

All my toons rep the same guild. I have 8. Everytime I switch toons, the conversation from Guild Chat is no longer there but my whispers are. It has been doing this with me since the beginning of the game. I just assumed that because different toons could be in different guilds it refreshes that portion of the chat, while keeping the account bound whispers.

so it’s just what was previously written in guild chat then? you’re still able to see anything new and chat normally from that point?

yeah, it is the previous conversations that are lost. But everything works fine afterwards. That is why I made my guess as to what causes it since the whispers are still there.

You should log in and test it out. I really wish the Guild Chat would stay there after switching toons so I don’t have to ask where were going and stuff. LOL

then yeah, i’ve had that happen too. i’ve also had it happen with party chat after leaving a party and switching maps, like at the end of a dungeon run. i’d guess that when you go back to the character selection screen, it doesn’t register you as being in any guild at that point, so like with party chat, it erases anything that was previously written there. then when you log back in, it’s already gone.

it’s a minor inconvenience, so i doubt they’ll do anything about it for a long long time, and when they do, they’ll put a toggle switch in the options menu and promote it as a “new feature”

Yeah probably so. I wasn’t griping about it. I figured I would let the OP know that I have the same thing happen I think it is part of the game at the moment. I wish party chat would stay since your still in the party though.

That is a highly irritating feature. It makes following conversations harder. It would be good if being in the login screen didn’t clear the chat log, and it happened only after logging on a char that is not representing.
Especially since the people staying in the login screen are shown in guild window as online, with correctly marked representation state.

Actions, not words.

Huh. I thought it did that for everyone. Every time I switch toons, not only do I have to reset my chats (first one party, second to guild, 3rd to map and 4th to say because it makes them all either map or say) but I lose all the previous guild chat. And no, it’s not because they aren’t representing.

Interesting… Thx for the response. I guess it is something we just need to deal with. I hate loosing my place in the chat because I need to switch toons.

Yes, and it’s very annoying. Also, the following:

- If you quickly rep another guild for a second (to queue an upgrade, for instance) and switch back, your guild chat is wiped if you change tabs, even if you’re back in the guild the chat text belongs to.

- If your party disbands, your party chat is wiped immediately. I’m sure most people have been in a situation where the party tab indicates you have a new message, and you have to message your friends to ask if they said anything important because you missed it.

Honestly, neither feature really serves a purpose except to annoy.
