Lost Shores "Solution" Who Still Misses Out?
I think they should do this, not only for everyone who completed at least one of the events, but for everyone who made any attempt to log in during the weekend. I never made it further than Noll because he was bugged, and then for most of the weekend I couldn’t even log in due to client crashes. I missed out almost completely on this once-ever event due solely to ANet’s negligence in releasing broken code, and I would like to be compensated with the event loot at the minimum. It would be great if they could find a way for us to also get to experience the event itself.
hahaha you’ve got to be kidding, why the hell would they care about you, i’m not trying to sound rude but why would they go to all that trouble you’ve suggested when they still have tons of bugs waiting to be fixed and the real main factor – have your money stashed in their greedy little hands? Better just harden up like the rest of us and take it on the chin.
R-Pete-G, agree totally. What a disappointment this weekend has been.
Bugged events, resulting in lost time and frustration, then the final event not even clear when\where was being run, then you get there and get disconnected, and miss the chest.
Add to that (and I’m happy for people who managed to get the end chest), those of us who missed out, missed out on a stack of good stuff, while we get a jug of Karma for completing the first bugged stages.
Just not logical, and I’m really disappointed in the way Anet have managed this whole thing.
Some form of compensation is required to at least make it fair to those that disconnected, and those who couldn’t attend the short time frame that the final event ran.

Why should they care about us? Because players leaving the game = less potential revenue for ANet. As you pointed out, their main goal is to squeeze more money out of us, and because of their non-subscription business model the only way they can do that is if we keep playing. The purchase price of the game only covered the costs of original development, they need to support maintenance and new content through ongoing gem store purchases. And if the pattern they have started with Halloween and the Lost Shores continues – a combination of bugs and design problems that keep people from participating in these events – before too long people will not only leave the game, but they will start telling their friends to avoid GW2 because ANet can’t release a properly working update.
I’m not demanding or expecting anything. I’m completely prepared to keep playing and just accept that I’ll never see that content. But for some people, ANet is 0 for 2 on major events, and even though the rest of the game is great, some of those people won’t stick around if they keep feeling screwed over by the big events.

Normally I’d be inclined to agree. I often saw people asking in chat about what ArenaNet were planning on doing about the situation and I’d reply with “nothing”.
But they are actually implementing a solution – they’ve said they’re going to try and compensate the people who have missed out. So that’s why I’ve put forward my thoughts: because, judging by the initial post, their “solution” is still going to leave people out in the cold.
ArenaNet have indicated that they want to make the effort to do something for us. I just hope they don’t continue to exclude / disappoint players once again, when their intentions seem good.
Good intentions are only that – Good Intentions, until action is followed by resolution of problem.
The question is, are they going to do what they always did in GW1 (give those who couldn’t make it to the events a redux, and in the process, let those who made it to the first time through get double the rewards) or are they just going to send a mail to anyone who doesn’t already have (lets say, a 20 slot karka shell box, since that was unique to the finale reward) who was on at least once during the weekend with the finale rewards attached?

I can’t argue with anyone regarding the drops as I was one of the fortunate ones who actually got to finish the final fight without disconnecting. My rewards were more than I actually expected and I was thrilled with that new 20 slot bag.
My personal view point is focused on how poorly the entire 3-day “one-time” event scheduled out. I expected to be able to go back and pick up on Phase 1 and 2 because none of the events worked. I got the soggy bag, defeated a few of the necessary NPCs only to not receive the necessary item to continue to the next step. Then heard it was cancelled.
I got discouraged over the fight at LA because the Karka actually never went down. My guild mates and I realized it was bugged and probably would not finish. So instead of standing around wasting our time and effort on that, we tried to do whatever was available up to that point.
Then the final call came in for the Southsun area. I really liked that but definitely will never solo that. I am too squishy to survive very long if I tried. But really liked the area and think it has potential.
I did get my new Ranger pet, but only after 6 or 7 of us finally took down the boss guarding them. I died but was told to wait that someone would rez me. It would have been too difficult to return through all that terrain and beasties alone. That worked.
I was more than disappointed in the poor drop rates on anything we took down in our adventuring outside of that one-time Ancient Karka. Even the harvesting nodes were few and far between.
My suggestion? Make these types of events run over a longer period of time so that everyone around the globe can actually manage to participate in them. Having folks able to do that would probably be the better approach in future.
I wonder too what they will do. I got disconnected far into the event, but not yet on the final battle. I spend the next hour and a half connecting (or at least trying) but never got further then the character screan. I know a lot of my guilds are in this situation. I am sure its not the connection, cause my brother was at my house and was able to finish.

A one time event of 2 hours simply isn’t a good way to spread load a online platform. If you want to make it unique, make it so players can only receive a reward once, or have an instance of “before” and after running for a certain period of time. This gives people in other time zones the opportunity to participate when it fits them best, it will spread the load more on servers (still will be lagging, but not so much disconnects), and you still have a unique, world changing event
