Try not to Q_Q. This is meant to be constructive.

Although I notice people are not that interested in Underwater, this was a selling point for me that convinced me to buy the game and my guild knows me for being in every map available where I can swim and fight freely.

Now I made my build to be more efficient in underwater content (something that I have seen no1 do). And this made me realize something…

…Most people make their build to excel in land content (and they should since that is the majority of the content), but if we were able to set an Underwater build apart from the land build, more people will see it more attractive to play in the water.

I love GW2, and I will keep saying: this IS the MMO with the BEST Underwater content available in the world and just by allowing everyone to set an underwater build apart from the land build, more people are going to feel more attracted to it.
(every one else is just afraid of deep water in real life)

The other thing is that I play every prof available in the game (I literally rotate the use of every single one of them) and every utility should have an underwater counterpart. That way every profession will feel more useful underwater.

\\(^____^)// Anyway, I just hope ANET likes this idea (idk if some1 else has said it before) but please see if that is viable for the game).

This has been suggested many times and still gets a +1 from me Altho I do not say underwater combat is perfect since there has to be a solution for several things too:

  • Every skills should be usable underwater, right now you are limited
  • AoE skills should get a better place underwater
  • Allied targeting needs to be a thing in order to help things like Throw Elixirs
  • As you mentioned seperate trait lines

I love underwater fighting but it feels way too clunky atm. I would be a very very happy man if those changes hit in. But don’t expect it to be soon since this is quite big and HoT has priority

The lack of interest for underwater fight is because there is so little content and events to do …. why no underwater world boss ?

About the AoE skill ….. as a Guardian , our purging flame is now useless because it’s almost impossible to place .. unless you lure the mobs at the very bottom or near a wall. A simple fix can be the AoE skill become a Sphere while underwater instead of a flat gound circle ….

The lack of specific underwater gear don’t help .. but this will get a bit better since we will get a chance to get a ascended recipe for aquatic breather.

This is an interesting idea, since underwater combat has been regarded a boring by a vocal part of the community. I think underwater combat still has this huge potential to become a great part of overall gameplay and I think underwater specific builds might be a step in the right direction.
The other stuff, that could be giving more versatility to underwater activities would be the mastery system and maybe additional underwater weapons?
For me, the most fun classes to play underwater are Elementalist and Engineer, since their skillsets tend to offer the right skill for every situation. To give anectotal evidence: When I started with GW2, my Elementalist was better at fighting under water, than on the ground. I tended to enjoy the parts, where renown hearts would take you unterwater and I still remember when I found the Flooded Castavall.

Underwater exploration definitely has its upsides and environments that are well done and elaborate, like “The long Way around” exploration challenge in the Straits of Devastation, it’s just, that the underwater combat needs some love.
The fight against the giant monster fish Fluffy in Mt. Maelstorm could have been great, but the fish’kittenbox seems all over the place and you sometimes can’t be sure that your attacks actually hit.
I have a feeling, that the current underwater combat system will get a major rework, or even a redesign when the Deep Sea Dragon expansion launches and we finally get to take the fight to Steve Bubbles, the most terrifying of the elder dragons.

I dislike the underwater combat but I can see why some people love it as well.

That being said I don’t think you’ll get a separate traits tab just for that.
They can’t/wont do it for PvE / PvP .. And they’re the larger groups of the community.

No, underwater is not happening. Waste of resources from a development standpoint. Theres WAY WAY WAY more critical things devs should be working on rather than dead content.

Best case scenario is they add a world boss for underwater… but thats lol, lame. It will be zerged and you just spam autoattack and win, like all the other worldbosses.

Underwater combat… like i don’t get it honestly, what makes you buy the game for underwater combat lol….. all you literally do is stay in the water and spam your skills/cooldowns… theres no skill or strategy compared to land combat…underwater just sit in the water and just spam skills and swap weapons and continue spamming.

Theres no might stacking, no rotations of any kind, no need to properly time dodges/blinds/CC, etc etc. its as simple as you get. go underwater, target enemy, spam every skill off cooldown and wait for enemy to die. This will not change because it doesn’t deserve to be changed. Theres more important things to do for developers on the land, not try to make spongebob wars 2.

As I said it needs kweaking making more skills available underwater and bringing in more variety. It will can open up things like might stacking then and even hardcore gameplay since you won’t have any corners to stack in.

  1. Make traits switch when going underwater, like skills do.
  2. Ensure all traits that do not affect underwater skills gain new affects while underwater/are switched for traits that only hold affect while underwater.
  3. Add some underwater-only skills so that in the end players have an equal amount of skills both above and underwater.
  4. Add more underwater weapons, and turn some pre-existing weapons into amphibious weapons (usable both underwater and above water) – e.g., swords allowed to be used underwater, and spears allowed to be used above water.
  5. Turn ground targeting spells into enemy targeting spells rather than PB spells (looking at you, wells).
  6. Create full tiered aquatic-breather crafting ala the addition of backpack crafting (but only for the three armor crafting professions – tailor, leatherworker, and armorsmith) with a unique appearance per tier.
  7. Add a Leviathan world boss that is on par to Tequatl or Triple Wurm (or inbetween), adding a unique ascended aquatic-breather and underwater weapons as a rare drop.
  8. Bring back underwater combat in PvP/WvW once above is done.
  9. Add Largos playable race.
  10. Add DSD campaign.

That’ll get everyone interested in underwater combat.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

No Q_Qing.

The point is giving guidance on what to fix and making an integral part of the game.

For what matter, I also would like to see some update for underwater content… but no new skins for sub weapons suggest otherwise.
I like it because when you learn how to play in sub environment you learn how to play in a “different world”. Better than SAB, for me.
It’s a pity to see so many reasonable and good suggestions just wasted (in general, not only in this thread).

You seem a dedicated member of this community, why would you want to see underwater combat fade instead of it being revamped…. When looking at underwater content it is a bit limited in weapons, we could get knives (daggers) and magical weapons functioning without real problems…

It woud be, while A-net could get the spear out of the water the dagger could go into the water. and allow for some weapons to be used on land and in water.

I doubt it fades but I’m speaking realistically here, there are more important things to revamp than underwater combat……

If you believe anet will put underwater combat into their development schedule, than thats your belief. I just realistically don’t think they will commit resources into revamping something that has no place in 2/3 of the game (PvP, WvW).

Could I see some more underwater PvE content? possible, especially in some story type missions or open world events.

Underwater combat is one of my favorite features of GW2, i actually base the fun of a class on their underwater combat skills.

i miss the pvp map that had the underwater point

Fighting the underwater witch queen in kessex at launch for the first time was one of the most kitten, most fun expiriences i’ve ever had fighting a boss in an MMO, and i’ve played everything and been playing MMO’s for 17 years. It was so much chaos and death and we were outnumbered then got reinforcements and eventually overcame her.

please don’t just forget about underwater combat. Re-invent it and make it somehting general public will enjoy, because it opens the possibiility for so much more content and fun.

That reminds me of the time in WvW, where you could lure your enemies into the water to play “Jaws”. Since no one expects actual combat to take place underwater, you can catch even players of the high skill bracket offguard.
Bonus points, if they haven’t familiarized with the underwater downed state, or instinctively swim to the surface, where they can’t attack you.

There should be a separate underwater build page, with skills, traits, everything.
That page should be part of the Hero panel.
Underwater class mechanics, are in some cases so different to the land ones,
that a lot of the Traits have absolutely no use there.
And you should not have to dive underwater to set your build.
How dumb is that?
And generally ,the builds UI in GW2 is lacking a lot,and not only in u/w combat.
Have you seen the PvP builds window? It’s like it’s taken from a cheap browser game
of 10 years ago.

P.S And you could even sell underwater specialized outfits!
Wet suits etc etc. They are activated when you go underwater,
like the weapons, and people will have the choice of either
using their land combat appearance or their u/w outfit, when
under the water.
And you would set all that from the u/w combat page.
