Love the game but
i cannot respect this comment lol. maybe try increase graphics in options? idk, either way….lol
It’s bothered me in every game except EverQuest where you could turn particle effects off . . .
Sadly, people like seeing the pretty lights.
Yep the particle spam is one of the major flaws in the game. It makes it hard to see tells, which makes it hard to dodge.

I don’t think it’s that people like seeing the pretty lights. I think it has more to do with the fact it isn’t a major issue. I certainly don’t have problems with it, and I can see tells just fine on most bosses. And yes, I do have my graphics set to max.
That, or I might just be more adept at seeing through it than most people are. Who knows.
It is a major issue, and not just in “seeing” it but a performance issue. I can tell you, truthfully and with experience, you get better performance in a boss battle with that kind of thing turning off particles and dropping all video settings to minimum.
And savvy players know this. Therefore, the reason they don’t is either they can’t or prefer to see the lights (“won’t”). That’s it.
Good luck with whatever game you will be playing instead! I hope you find it more satisfactory. =)
So many white knights nowadays .
I agree 100% with you OP. Maybe it is something we can hope for in a future Feature Patch. We will see. Anet is usually pretty good about fixing things like this over time. Just don’t expect it to happen soon.
For me, the amazing technicolor dreamcoat on bosses is the major issue that limits my GW2 playtime and the type of content I’m willing to do. I find the particle spam to be a visual abomination that is extremely unpleasant. As I’ve done most everything in the game multiple times, and since the rewards are concentrated in these types of events, this means that GW2 is not a game I play a lot.
It was brought up in Beta. The only thing I’ve ever seen by a Red name was some mention of a particle LOD system but it only seems to kick in for certain situations. I’ve never noted an appreciable reduction in particle effects.
We need a client side adjustment.
Another thing that bothers me is camera height. Which leads to this when attacking burning oil for example….
Sure it would be great to reduce or remove this. If it was easy it would not be the problem it is for every single game I have played in the past. If you have solid solutions I would be happy to see how they work out.
There are a lots of threads with ideas for solution of this problem. It simply isn’t their priority to fix it yet….

Yea, the game is the bane of epileptics. Hope there is a ‘serious hazard’ warning in the game’s terms and conditions of use.
That said, any form and manifestation of group pvp has been turned into self-mockery because of all the unicorns and butterflies flying around in the process.
I think the OP has a valid point, although it being a deal breaker is kind of extreme but to each their own.
Another mmo had this same problem with bosses becoming glowing blobs of light so they implemented a graphic option to turn off or at least cull particle effects from other players. It worked great and I hope ArenaNet will put something like this in place for the future.
