The recent patch has added Lovestruck weapon skins to the game. Each of them has a prominent heart symbol. I can understand the desire to add seasonal or holiday-themed skins to the game. However, in this case, the specific symbolism and their placement seems very awkward. The red heart is typically a symbol for love. Placing this symbol on a weapon could thus be interpreted as “I love to kill” or “I kill those I love”. Yet I doubt ANet intended to support either viewpoint.

Cupid may be depicted using a bow, and a heart symbol on his weapon may be appropriate, but his arrows aren’t lethal. Thus, unless the lovestruck weapons are similarly non-lethal, that example doesn’t really apply here.

Things like the Harpy Love effect seem more in the spirit of how the heart symbol can be used appropriately within the game. Meanwhile, there are plenty of other symbols that would seem to be better choices for weapons.

You’re looking for symbolism where none exists. You should get out a bit more.

You have gotten what you paid for, all that remains is biweekly gemshop pushing.

I do not get those impressions at all. I have to agree with geo that perhaps some may be taking this game just a bit too seriously.

I simply viewed them as a nice skin introduced for valentine’s day. Many other games have valentine themed weapons, but they tend to be gaudy and overbearing more often than not. These are quite tasteful imo.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Uh.. seriously? You’re going to worry about this?
When there are numerous other things in gameto ‘worry’ about?

Why not the mass genocide of a race (Ogres), or the encouragement of animal cruelty through the ambient creature kill daily. How about the dolyak abuse by using them as transports in WvW?

But no..you had to pick this.

Yeah and ANet is teaching kids to slaughter wildlife with Ambient Killer achievement.

On a more down to earth remark. I was glad it’s the first black lion set that actually includes a weapon that doesn’t look like a tumor on a stick, but then of course you had to slap a silly heart on it.

Hopefully ANet is gonna keep the functional-yet-elegant design for the coming weapons, and not slap silly stuff on them.

Give me game. Not grind, not gating, not RNG, not +stat junk, not checklists.

I’m not big on the hearts either, honestly, but I have to admit that it could have been soooooo much worse. These are at least tasteful, and the weapon designs themselves are clean and delightfully simple.

I definitely agree that they should do more functional yet elegant sets.

Some people would say that ArenaNet are once again leaping on the commercialisation of a holiday with their gem store for unnecessary crap.

Do I love to kill? Probably. If I didn’t I probably wouldn’t be playing a game where the majority of the activity involves killing something or someone or destroying things. There are plenty of other games where none of that occurs yet I am not playing them right now.

OP if you’re not joking, then the joke’s on you. Bloody hell. Also ban the muppets, they promote bullying of little green kids who look like frogs and I really find it offensive. Also Green Peace should be shut permanently down. They claim to help the environment, yet green of often associated with poison, sickess and disease. They may want to achieve peace through global death. Stop them before it’s too late.

Also those tin foil hats they sell everywhere, really don’t work – I want my money back!

Yeah, hammers and greatswords really suffer from the tumor-on-a-stick disease. When they make one that looks good, they slap a heart on it. I bet they have a competition agent infiltrated in their ranks telling them to make this stuff and not make gem money ever. (OR the great majority of GW2 players have crappy taste for gear :P)
