Low Level Areas - Reduced DE Rewards

Hi All. Forgive me if I missed it but what was the rationale behind reducing the already low rewards in low-level areas? Particularly, I am referring to the Dynamic Event Rewards.

To illustrate:
Prior to 15-Nov-2012 Patch: 243 Karma 1 Silver 20 Copper Reward
Post 15-Nov-2012 Patch: 147 Karma 63 Copper Reward

Personally, I quite enjoy going through the various country sides (Below Level 40 Areas) as I like the content there (Centaur Wars etc.) better than Orr or Frostgorge. However, it seems like all DE rewards for Areas below Level 40 have been reduced by at least 50% for any Level 80 players playing in these areas.

That being said, why is there a need to further discourage players from playing in certain parts of Tyria? Wasn’t the intent of ANET to create a game where a player can fully enjoy Tyria in its entirety (which was the exact rationale behind having items scale up to the player’s level)? If so, why implement this reduction?

Thank you for taking the time to read this thread. I would appreciate it if we can get any official response to this as I am quite disheartened by these changes.

Edit Note: Updated Karma of Post-Patch. Just did a random DE to get the exact numbers.

If you level 80, you should be grinding to get ascended items. You are playing it wrong.

Please get your priorities straight Anet.
Stat increase = gear grind.
Gear grind = no money from me ever again.

Heh. Lucky me, I like to explore on my alts, it won’t really impact my pitiful amount of silver by making waypointing to those areas completely not worth it.

I suggest if you don’t like that level 80 gear grind that you cultivate a love for leveling alts.

now that they are doing a 180 and concentrating on the gear grind type of gameplay they are going to be trying to force as many people as they can into their dungeons (WoW does this as well, raid or die) and this is one of the ways they are doing it.

if i’m gonna go back to grinding gear, i’m going back to my toon who has a 7 year headstart on it, requested a refund late last night and not even gonna bother with this big event. peace.

As someone who’s been inhabiting Queensdale since weeks for purpose of running dailies I can see the reasoning behind even though I was annoyed by it at first as well – naturally as I made use of some design inconsistencies. Put simply there’s a higher DE density and frequency in low-levels with an appropriately low complexity as well. Getting the same full rewards for solo’ing events as people get having to do entire chains in Orr did not make sense.

Is it safe to assume that you are being sarcastic? Personally, I already have my previously thought of “end-game” gear minus the Legendary Weapon. Thus, instead of grinding, I generally like to explore & revisit various places in Tyria to see how it has changed when I first went through them.

Ah, but note though that the DEs in low level areas give less reward than DEs in Orr, or any other high level area. So really, what happened is that the previously lower rewards became even lower. Whether or not this was necessary is up for discussion.

sadly I am not Laz. I do NOT agree with it. But the fact is if you are not jumping on the treadmill, and instead playing it the way you want… they will take more and more away until you simply have no choice.

Yeah, still they were easy enough for the money. I am not excluding the possibility of a bug though which only an official statement can clear up. But I could see why it is not a bug. Not that I’d mind if they reverted that

Not anymore or well you can actually if you are in for a long haul but chances are players will come and help out first. But you can ignore that one really – same with other final bosses of each zone. There’s more and far easier ones around the entire zone. All of them solo-able.

Still you can go into 40+ zones and get the enhanced karma now, they did increase it for those zones 40+ so not sure what the issue is. They just don’t want you to be in all pow prec %damage gear and mow thru everything to get the points you need so….

Not sure about why this thread is even here. I’ve never had issues doing the DE’s in 40+ zones while gathering. And my gear doesn’t even have the runes in it yet. ;P

I would be completely fine if there were actually events happening in mid-high level zones and people to complete them with… you have no idea how many times I’ve stood by a group event alone for like 10 minutes without anyone showing up… just sad… I’m forced to go into low level areas to complete events cause there are no events happening in my area…

That is just sad. So basically, they make an entire world for you and at the end of the day, want you to just play in that last 1% area over & over again?

Still you can go into 40+ zones and get the enhanced karma now, they did increase it for those zones 40+ so not sure what the issue is. They just don’t want you to be in all pow prec %damage gear and mow thru everything to get the points you need so….

Well, the only issue I have with it is the decrease for the lower level zones. For me, each zone “areas” have unique & interesting flavors in them. Thus, exploring randomly in these places for me is relatively fun. Now, there is more incentive to just play in the high level zones & forget about all the other good content in the lower level ones.

What I’m getting is what want good rewards for doing things lower then you level.

That’s interesting.

Doing things below your level netted you a 40% reduction in rewards prior to the patch. This means that if you run Plinx over & over again, you can potentially get 40% more gold, karma, and experience than say if you retook a camp for the Seraphs or fought the Flame Legion wars. Post patch, that 40% has effectively been adjusted to about 60% reduction. Given this, I begin to wonder if the original design was to play 99% of Tyria pre-80 and stick with the 1% of Tyria once you hit 80. It seems quite sad to just throw away the 99% especially since those zones are much more fleshed out & living (no pun intended for Orr…) compared to the last 1%.

Obviously ANet thinks you’re playing it wrong. Get out to the dungeons and grind!

I do this as part of my dailies. After you get Dungeon Master, get your sets of Exotics, with only the Legendary left, what else do you do? Personally, I grew weary of the grinding so I started exploring. I saw a bunch of new events in the earlier zones (like that Undead Commander that claimed he killed Tybalt!) that really got me to go around the map more. Unfortunately, it seems quite sad that this is “playing it wrong” as I just find it fun.

To put it simply, grinding is not fun for me at all. If at some point, the only thing left to do is to grind, then that would be the day GW2 ends for me.

I think it’s pretty silly. It wasn’t like it was efficient to hang out in low level zones at 80 even pre patch. It was just vaguely passable and you had people to talk to in map chat in Queensdale.

So now it’s outright worthless. Doesn’t seem to be an upside to doing this change.

On the plus side, I was getting way more high level item drops when I just ran through caledon at 80. Hopefully it will make up for the reduced DE rewards.

Yet again you show you have no knowledge of the original vision of the game.

That was WHY they placed level scaling in the game. So you could level and still visit those zones you missed or just enjoyed, get downleveled and get decent rewards while still having a risk and not just 1 shotting everything.

Did you even read ANY information on GW2 before joining the game and then most likely complaining that its not WoW?

I am surprised by this, it makes no sense to me since the whole idea behind down leveling was so that you could revisit lower lvls.

I honestly love exploring and I revisit lower lvls constantly.
Not for rewards clearly since they don’t compare to Orr and the waypoints suck up additional cost.
I did it because I love the world and it’s detail and all the interwoven stories in the different zones. I love the vibe in lower lvl maps since the players are a blast.
At the moment I am running around Caledon on my lvl 80 exotic, just because I have never seen the area.
The whole recent change completely baffles me since it seems to cut players off from the world more and more.
What is the point of spending years designing such an awesome world and then herding players into one little corner of it?
I just feel that all choice in how we play the game is being taken away form us
