Hi guys. Yesterday, I purchased the PoF expansion and now I have 2 level 80 boosts. Should I use them? I want to be able to do the HoT content (Haven’t done any yet), and also go through PoF content.

My 2 best characters are a level 9 Necro and level 6-8 Hunter. I really like playing as Necro and also the Hunter, but they are low level. Should I use my boosts so I can play the HoT and PoF content?

Thoughts and help greatly appreciated

If you want to, sure, but you’ve barely scraped either class. I’d suggest playing the classes far more to decide if you even like them when you have their traits/skills unlocked. Also, you should get used to the mechanics of the “core maps” before you try pushing to expansion content.

As noted on the L80 Boosts, they are ‘For advanced players’.

I would strongly suggest leveling one or two characters naturally to L80 before using any L80 Boosts. That way you won’t miss out on all the Leveling tutorial tips and rewards.

Welcome to Tyria, and good luck.

I have used both boosts and deleted the characters after a while.

If you boost and go straight to HoT you will rob yourself of a large amount of enjoyment.

I would advise you to save them for much later.

And if you just can’t wait (we are all human) than i’d suggest to use just one and save the other.

I personally find my Necro to be a bit easier to cut through the jungle with than my Ranger. (look up LordWafflez PvE beginners guide on youtube for each profession, it’s been very helpful to me)

Have fun

I also suggest just boosting the one. It gives you a trial period to test out the class before fully committing to it, anyway, in case you’re not sure. I, on the other hand, just went fully with my first mesmer because she was a pain to level. For me, it certainly did not lesson my enjoyment, for I now had a character to try everything out on. You don’t get the level-up rewards for boosting, but you certainly get that freedom and the freedom was what I desired. It’s not like you can’t take that boosted character and go mess around in Tyria with. I did a lot of mapping on her, as well as messing around in HoT’s maps.

Ok, thanks for the info

IMO absolutely don’t use them unless you’re at risk of quitting because it’s taking you too long to see the content you want. I’ve capped five toons, and regret using a boost on my sixth. The classes need to be played to get into and master, so whether you skip leveling or not, you’ll still need to put in the hours to learn. By skipping you’ll be doing that in content that’s way more unforgiving. Plus I think leveling from 1 is still GW2’s best endgame… and HoT will be as fun and viable to play after PoF release as it is now, /train

Edit: my boost was on ranger, and he’s sitting fully decked out in exotics but unplayed in Rata Sum while my elementalist gets all the kittentang ;-)

Send an Asura who knows math. Problem solved.

I mained Ranger from the beginning, they super easy to play. You can always tell a former WoW player cause that is the only game that has ever called a ranger something other than ranger.

When you use a boost it will transport you immediately to the Silverwastes, a zone that could be considered “The Endgame” content of core Tyria. You will be granted Elite Gear, possibly with a class specific stat set. I wasted my HoT boost for the shared slot, so I only have experience from the PoF boost on a warrior, which gave me soldier’s stats. Anyway, I recommend bumbling around in there, doing nonmeta stuff, or get in on the big fights if you like. After doing that for a while, decline the boost. That should take you back and let you then use the boost on a different character.

Another thing you could do, would be to travel to Lion’s Arc and go to the Mists, this will also make you level 80 with all skills and traits so you can test things out there against training dumbies and class dumbies. There is also a PvP arena.

Honestly, if it were me, I would do map clearing on the six cities and five starter zones. That alone should bring you to 20-30 and doesn’t really take all that long. Then you’ll have a better idea how much you like your classes, before jumping to max level

Necro is more noob friendly with his sustain in pve

that’s not really true, they take some micro management to get a hang of it while staying alive, especially solo.
if anything, the guardian is a more suited beginner profession, healing is plenty and they have heavy armor.

What is a Guardian? Is that a profession for Necro?

What is a good solo class? I usually don’t do groups in MMO games. Don’t have any online friends and such. Thing is, I already purchased the PoF expansion, but all of my Characters are really low level. My Necro just hit level 10 and that is the highest level I have for any of my Characters. I have 2 boosts, but not sure if/when I should use them.

Just play the game the traditional way. Using the boost before you have at least one or two lvl 80s, is pretty much the most stupid thing a new player can do.

first thing you need to know about GW2 is that we don’t call them a class, it’s called a profession.
a guardian is the same as a necro or anything of the sort, a different profession.

I recommend a Bear/Bow
Play your Ranger, it’s a Ranger not a Hunter, Hunter isn’t a thing. Get yourself a bear because bears suck up agro. Get yourself a longbow. Stand at range and kill things that your bear is distracting. It’s the easiest class to play hands down in Open world PvE. Once you’ve gotten a better handle on the game and how everything works, then work up your Necro, which is a little bit more involved with an entire different combat set built into it.

For Open World PvE, all the Professions are good for mostly solo play. Some Professions are easier to learn, at first, though. Those would probably be Ranger, Warrior, Guardian, Necromancer. It’s really just a matter of preference. Use the ‘Game’ link above to get a broad overview of the Professions (and more), if desired.

You have 5 or 6 Character slots, so you can try out several of the Professions, and see what you like….and don’t like. You will only really learn the game by playing it. And, of course, the Wiki is a great resource, and can be accessed in-game by typing /Wiki (topic of choice) in the Chat Panel.

Welcome to Tyria, and good luck.

You can also try all the professions out as level 80 buy useing the boost and after trying it out in that single map you get to play in cancel the boost.

Level your first toon naturally… that’s how you learn all the ins & outs of how the game works. If you boost your first toon, you are going to be overwhelmed.

That’s up to you. You are the one playing it. Just telling you what I did from a neutral stance. I can see both sides. I boosted during my second week playing, so it was overwhelming. I got my gliding, than focused solely on just exploring and mapping, a mixture of Tyria and Verdant Brink, until I got the hang of it. But than, I also had a friend to help me who’s been playing for years. Regardless of what some would say, I do not regret it. We all play and enjoy things differently. I enjoyed my freedom. Now I enjoy naturally leveling characters up myself.

The second one I boosted was a necromancer. I’ve leveled a ranger naturally. I enjoy both. But most chances out of ten, I’ll be taking the necromancer with me when I explore around a 80 map if it’s a choice between the two. You could do ranger and have access to all those pets~

I am a bit torn as what to do…. Some are saying to boost, others not. I just don’t want to miss out on the HoT and PoF content. I purchased the $79 PoF edition, just don’t want to feel like I wasted my money. I just started playing as a Guardian and like it so far. My highest is my level 10 Necro. I only have 2 boosts I can use. Thoughts and help appreciated

The content isn’t going anywhere. The reason some suggest leveling a character naturally first is because, often, taking a new Boosted character into end-game content results in frustration, and many defeats. There’s plenty of time to level a character to 80 before the expansion drops.

Try using the trial in The Silverwastes to get an idea of what to expect. If you do fine, go ahead. If you have difficulties, try leveling normally.

Again, the choice is yours. Good luck.

How do I access the trial in The Silverwastes? Do I just use a boost? Also, how long do I have to do a level 80 trial and what all is available in a trial?
