Luck calculations
Hi all,
I’ve me some calculations about luck.
As we know, from 1% to 300% basic magic find we need in total 4295450(4M 295k) of luck.
Just salvaged 1k blue items, and got 9970 luck. So 1 item gave me 9.97 luck.
So, 4295450/9.97= 430k items.
430k items to salvage for 300% magic find !
how does it sounds for you guys ?
Well, that’s why I salvage not just blues, but the greens and yellows also, those give much more luck than blues
perhaps coincidentally, as my luck has gotten higher I’ve been getting more and more of the 50 luck, 100 luck and 200 luck bits.
eta: I only salvage blues and greens. need the yellows for Mystic Forge…

Totally understood, I salvage rares because Ectoplasms are #1 priority for me at this moment, when I have enough, MF it will be
I stopped collecting magic find once I hit 100% account wide.
300% isn’t going to get you a precursor. Waste of time and resources.
globs will give more luck, so praise yourself if u need lots of crystalline dust
If it ain’t dutch,… :P

Well, greens cost almost 2x more, so that doesn’t seems to be the best way in a long run

Well, I don’t care about that 1-2s which i get by selling the green item, I need mats and luck, that’s all

me too. more luck → more greens and mats → salvage greens for luck and mats → more greens and mats and yellows
and money is starting to trickle in now from mob kills too.

Exactly This circle has only one end, 300% MF
Well, I’m vendoring green, and from money i got I’m buying x1.5 more blue items.
Green<Blue, because green item gives just 20-30% more luck/mats.

Which is exactly why I stopped salvaging them once I reached 100% MF and went back to selling them on the TP, I’m very happy to sell everyone I get to the folks who need them….and btw the prices are still seem to be on the rise.
I’ve always salvaged all blues anyway. Also salvaging all greens now and it is mostly a matter of convenience. I don’t need to run off to a vendor as often since it all gets salvaged. With all greens and blues being salvaged it feels like the rate of increase for luck has remained at a steady pace.
I found focusing on raising luck past 50 a waste. And by focus I mean salvaging everything I got short of exotics. Once I got to 50 I just went back to my normal way of playing the game. A mix of sell and slave depending on space needed and nearness of a vendor. My luck still rises at a decent rate but I see no need to delay raise it and buy things to just farm essence. Just play the game the luck will come. After all 300 is a life time type goal. Once you get it any essence you get while playing normally is wasted for you
Overall salvaging ecto is the fastest way, but salvaging greens is the cheapest way. For me Ecto avg ~100luck per salvage and greens ~20luck. Using ecto to max luck will cost you twice as much as using greens assuming you are buying greens for around ~1s. The cost I calculated for maxing luck (4.3million luck) is around ~4000g with ecto(takes into account selling the dust back) and ~2000g with greens(does not take into account selling salvaged mats back). The main issue with buying greens is you will have pages of greens to salvage.
Magic find in terms of luck:
226% is 1/2 of max luck
183% is 1/4 of max luck
144% is 1/10 of max luck
109% is 1/25 of max luck
72% is 1/100 of max luck

There is a way to make that a bit easier. You can type masterwork in the inventory search bar to filter for just those then you just need to click on one spot to salvage. I used to do that for Fines before the essences of luck were added. You will need to activate the kit before typing in the search/filter.
I was talking more about having to sit at TP for awhile until you clear the returns tabs. Not knowing what items you have waiting for you or if a valuable item has sold.

I purchased 250 ecto’s and salvaged all of them and then immediately sold all the dust and in total my cost was only 5g30s. Not to bad of a cost to go from 61% mf to 78%

The times I have bought ecto it was for 85-90g and I sold the dust for 55-60g. That was the standard for the last couple of months. The price of crystalline dust has increase since then ~16s to ~17s. I have never profited from turning ecto into dust and spent 25-30g per stack when I rush the last 10%mf. I did not even take into account the salvage mats you get from green and it was less expensive then ecto even when I sold the dust.
Also, someone even found some greens that you can buy and salvage for a profit. . https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/How-to-profit-while-gaining-MF/first#post3222763. So you were just lucky they someone sold ecto at a very cheap price.

Blues – 10.5 luck ea
Greens – 29.3 luck ea
(on average)
If you salvage lower level armors etc. blues tend to give more profit than greens and you can obtain them more easily (less compitition on the tp so you won’t be outbid as quickly).
