Would it be better odds to drop 1000 rare level 80 weaps or 200 exotic level 80 weaps.

You will get a lot of different answers to this, I personally only ever use Exotics, if you use rares, you have a chance and rolling the entire rare table, and the exotic table, the numbers are way to high, with only exotics you only role the exotic table ( I hope that makes sense )

NOTE though, you can easily throw in 200 exotics and not get a thing, ive had times where ive had upwards of 500 exotics in forge before a return….

You maybe better selling rares/exotics and buying the pre you need/want.

Forge = 1 big gambling machine that usually doesn’t pay out.

This one is easy. 200 exotic weapons in the forge return 50 exotics. 1000 rare weapons into the forge, on the other hand, return 50 exotics and 200 rares. So 1000 rare weapons is clearly better.

Now a harder question is 200 exotics vs 800 rares; with reforging of the rares these will both give you 50 exotics in return. There is some debate as to whether or not throwing exotics into the forge delivers precursors at a higher rate than throwing rares into the forge. Large sets of data show a slightly higher rate of getting a precursor from throwing exotics into the forge than from throwing rares (per exotic generated). However the difference between the point estimates does not pass tests of statistical significance (they’re hovering around the 0.85% confidence level).

If they are anywhere comparable in price I would throw exotics into the forge simply for the amount of time it will save you. It’s not easy to buy exotics to forge for only 4x the price of comparable rares, however.

Your maths on the 1000 rares returning 50 exotics is purely down to RnG, ive thrown in 500 rares before and got back 8 exotics,

If its for purely pre cursor hunting from forge id use exotics,

I used close to 2000 rares in forge and no pre’s back at all, I swapped to exotics, and I tend to use 200g worth of exotics at a time, and so far ive pulled 17 pre’s from forge.

I sell rares that are below the current TP value of ectos. I salvage if below since I currently need ectos.

I will likely sell all non-sceptor exotics and save sceptor exotics for sticking in the mystic forge. Work towards both methods to get a precursor. I expect to get the gold before I get a mystic forge drop. And I am only talking drops, I will not buy exotics to stick in the mystic forge.

But that’s just me. And I’m a long way from getting everything else I need for the legendary. And I’m not in a rush to get it.
