I have managed to get all my gifts now, so only need the precursor, which in my case is “The Lover” shortbow. Im having 120g now when all gifts are made. So whats the best way to get precursor? Save money or try the Mystic Forge?

If mystic forge, should I buy rare, exotics, craft them myself? Level 76, Level 80s?
What you think is the best way?

I think its best to save gold and buy it. There are many horror stories of people dumping nearly 1k of gold into the Mystic forge and still not getting a Precursor, and you can find alot of threads in the forum over the past year of people wishing they had just bought it instead of RNGing themselves into bankruptcy. On the other hand, you can also get it on the first try, but… you could also get it from a level 15 boss too, so… it pretty much comes down to asking yourself “Do I feel lucky?”.

The question is how fast you want that thing. Mystic Forge is very random, you could be lucky and get one after the first try or you could end up dumping all your money inside the forge praying you get one lol. You might as well run around the world and hope for a precursor to drop the chance is probably higher than playing the mystic forge, when looking at some accounts/players that have been trying for months/year.

In general or that’s what the rumors are saying and there’s no guarantee or any statement made by the devs that this is the only and 100% certain way, but you should focus on level 80 exotics.

My suggestion would be gathering money and buying the precursor straight from the TP if available. It might avoid the chance of having a headache or rage quit at the end of the day

My advice is to run dungeons to earn gold and throw the dungeon token exotic shortbows into the mystic toilet for that unlikely chance at a precursor. These dungeon exotics can’t be traded anyway and the resulting item will, at the very least, be an exotic that you can sell.

Edit:

Also, they are working on a scavenger hunt or crafting method to make precursors. The codes for items that you consume to receive materials to start your “journey” to wield a particular precursor are already in the game. That implies that they at least have the framework of the system down. It could be that we may see precursor hunting/crafting within the next few months. Hell, it sounds like a Wintersday gift to me.

Thanks for input, I have almost given up the very thought of getting a precursor from a drop. Having 2000h played in the game and maybe 1/4 of that time in Orr. Not even seeing someone else getting that as drop.

I have maybe wasted 100 shortbows (rare+exotics) in the toilet, still no luck. I may need to farm 400g to be able to afford it.

Do I feel lucky? – naaah! :p

Buy it buy it buy it. Don’t throw money at MF gambling on it. At least champ/world boss farming is guaranteed money. And you have to basically farm all the stuff to put into the MF or farm gold to buy THAT, so…. ya.. save up and buy it. You’ll be happier and probably get it way sooner.
