Whilst I main Mace on my warrior, I also main mace on my guardian and find it rather useful. There are prob better options, but I find traiting for it alongisde heal blocks, makes it much more effective.

I’d like to see more mace using professions though. Nothing like a good, blunt thwack to ones opponent…

I am curious how Mace can be handled in the other professions that do not have them yet.

Mace is a defensively oriented weapon on both warrior and guardian. It is useful wherever their defensive properties are useful. Mace does performs its role pretty well on both.

Mace is the only main hand condi option for rev. Torment is underwhelming in PvE.

Based on QTFY’s current recommendations, it looks like mace has about as much love as any other main-hand.

  • Axe used by 4, QTFY builds for 2.
  • Dagger used by 4, meta on 4
  • Mace used by 3, meta on 2
  • Pistol, used by 3, meta on 2

Honestly one class im surprised never got mace from the start is engineer, considering how many engineer oriented designs there are for a mace.

I dont think it should be a spec weapon for engi’s I think they need it as a default one. I also wouldnt complain if we were to see thieves using it as it has a very billy-club function for a thief.

How couldn’t it? Rev uses hammer as a ranged weapon? Mesmer uses GS as a ranged weapon to shoot laser beams at you. We have staff being used as both a ranged weapon and a melee physical weapon. I don’t see how mace couldn’t fit on any of the classes with Anet’s design team (conceptual design, not necessarily class design).

Thief could easily use it like a blackjack (small club). Engineer could also use it like a one handed hammer (also a wrench skin already exists on mace). Necromancer could use it as a condition based melee weapon.

Agreed. I could easily see the mace making sense on a thief (maybe call it a thug – which would tie in with things already in game).

That sounds more like hate for mace than love. That will be a crappy weapon for boss fights and all it does with trash mobs is spread them out making trash clearing slower.

It’s like any knockback: a mixed blessing. Fear, plus fear-as-dot, plus torment so that moving increases damage would be rather nice as a thing you have in the toolkit as a necro. Making fear more accessible would certainly be nice for the fear-as-dot trait.

…but, yeah, I don’t feel like it would be a great focus of the tool.

I was going to say “Actually, that’s pretty good for a Necro” – but then I remembered fear is really only that brutal for Reapers, when it CCs, Chills (More CC), and Bleeds.

Maces lend themselves strongly to CC and Defense, and I could easily see a thief using one to provide more active blocks or stuns. Then again – Headshot gets enough hatred due to the Initiative mechanic.

Don’t forget that you can also trait fear for direct DoT damage too.
