Q:

I know there’s a rule that states that you can only have 1 skill activation per key press. But since chat ain’t skill activation, is it allowed to macro chat and chat commands (such as /salute @)? For example, when multiple enemies suddenly reveal themselves from stealth coming to the point where I am at, I hastily type in “2 home”, or “3 inc home”, etc. Sometimes in my panic I mispress the wrong buttons and instead activate random skills while typing what I needed to relay in team chat. I’ve been thinking about using a macro program to automatically type in chat for several months now, but didn’t because I’m not sure if it’s allowed. So my question is, is using macro programs to type in chat allowed?

It’s actually one action = one key. So technically, using a macro to do anything beyond that is against the rules. However, Anet has said in the past that they won’t enforce the rules on minor stuff like what you’re talking about.

OK thank you. I’m not the speediest typer around and like I said, sometimes I hit the wrong keys when I’m frantically trying to type something, specifically instead of pressing the enter key, I press the shift or the backslash keys, followed by the message I was going to send, only to activate skills bound to those keys. This helps in ensuring it won’t happen again.
