Last night I got Frostfang done (after 3 years) and before equipping it, I made sure to check the wiki and in-game info (pop-up windows, etc) thinking the effect of the legendary would still be visible (footsteps) while using my main weapon (Greatsword).

I was heart-broken to see that’s not the case (but I had seen it on other people at some time – so I obviously thought it was the right idea since you still have it equipped on the second slot). Now I’m stuck with a weapon I barely actually use that cost me a lot of work and gold.

Support can’t do anything, but told me to try the forums.

I’m not exactly sure what you want here. You spent 3 years creating a weapon and now you’re heartbroken because you don’t get the foot falls? Maybe it’s just the way I think but I can’t imagine selling something I worked 3 years for.

Um…I don’t see anything in the OP that mentions selling it.

Unfortunately, a legendary weapon must be the active weaponset for its non-weapon character effects to be apparent.

Also, the effects are tied to the skin and not also to the item itself. So even if you have a legendary weapon equipped as your active weaponset, if you reskinned it to another skin, the footfall/glow effects are not apparent.

It’s a shame too. I was hoping to be able to craft Frostfang and reskin it to its precursor appearance (which I like much more) and still have the footfall effects. But as the effects are tied to the Frostfang skin and not to the legendary item itself, footfall effects with precursor skin appearance is not possible.

Basically, we’re locked into having to keep the legendary skin it comes with and also having it as our active weaponset for the footfall/glow effects to be apparent on our character. I find this quite disappointing, which is why I haven’t gone for Frostfang or any other legendary as I desire the footfall effects, but am disappointed in the appearances of the legendary weapon skins themselves. :\

Why would the footfall effect be on when you’re not using it as the current weapon? The legendary effects are not on all the time as long as you have them equipped, it’s not like armor pieces, if the weapon is swapped to the secondary set it’s basically unequipped at the moment.

Also… if support can’t do anything, how will the forums help? What kind of answer is that, lol anet support.

Every item effect is only active when you have it active, if you have Frostfang only as 2nd set, then you won’t have its effects, that is how every item works, if you have a torch in your 2nd set, you won’t have the ambient glow when you have the greatsword equipped , why would this be different?
Imagine if you had Frosfang and Twilight in set 1 and 2, both effects would stack?

wait … you thought you would see the frsotfang footsteps while you dont even have frostfang as your active weaponset?
since you cant be using frostfang while using GS because GS is obviously a 2-hand weapon…

the only thing that would make sense is being disappoitned about OFFHAND frostfang not showing footsteps while another legendary (like bolt) is equipped in your mainhand

but ofc unless you actually use frostfang you wont see the footsteps

Im sorry for you that it doesnt work as you hope but im pretty sure that you did not see this happen at other players
Next time just ask in map chat in any populated place like Heart of the Mists or LA
and i am sure there are players who can tell you exactly how it will be or even show you

And that’s what the wiki says, but nothing regarding normal weapons. Hence, why I concluded nothing would be overwritten and actually show the effect.

Stupid, probably. But the information available is open to make mistakes like that happen. Which is why I’m here, since support said they only deal with money transactions and I would actually need help from a designer/dev.

I have a really nasty suspicion, that the person on support that handled your request, just trolled you a bit when telling you to post this on forums.
Because I’m afraid all you can get here is a lot people laughing at you and maybe just few felling sorry for you. But I really really doubt you will get any dev response or actuall help.

Sorry you are feeling upset, but instead of using wiki, you could have went to any individual in game with a legendary and simply asked them. What you said has never once existed in game. Don’t think anyone can help you out. I’d say enjoy your Frostfang because in my opinion, it is one of the most finely detailed legendaries they made, and is also my favorite out of the 4 that I have. Not sure what class you play, but axe is very viable for warrior, revenant, and necro, not too sure about ranger but possibly.

It existed, but it was a bug. This behavior wasn’t ever planned and has been fixed month ago (i didn’t saw anyone with this bug for months).

Not really. What you expected was never a thing, and was never even suggested anywhere. The only source of your mistake was your imagination.
You made an assumption not based on anything, and then thought that no info about it being false meant it must be true. This is not how it works.

So, sorry, it was entirely your fault.

As mentioned above, it did exist and it’s what I saw until they fixed it. Secondly, I shouldn’t have to go ask around players nor stalk them and their legendaries. Not denying my fault in this, but there was room for mistakes to happen that no in-game source mentions, or at the very least, the wiki.

As mentioned above, it did exist and it’s what I saw until they fixed it.

That was not a natural feature, but a result of a workaround using transformation potions. If you simply equipped a legendary then switched to your second set, it wouldn’t have worked that way. And again, nothing in the item/wiki description even suggested that it might.
And yes, there are possibilities for many mistakes that wiki doesn’t mention. That’s because wiki in general doesn’t concern itself with false informations, only with true ones.

No it never existed.
The closest thing that existed was a bug that involved an exploit from tonic that had no CD time to stack auras, other effects, like footfalls, didn’t work.

What a question… people are just asking for too much. Of course you don’t get the effect if you don’t use the weapon.

‘would of been’ —> wrong

This is kinda silly tbh. According to what you ask it would be impossible to use 2 legendaries. Say you had eternity on your other weapon set, would both footprints be mixed up then and if not then how do you choose which one to be active? Tbh i only see a problem regarding engineer using Kits as it’s impossible get legendary kit skins or any alternate skin for that matter, maybe effects could be on while using Kits but not in any other case

Hi Eluveitie.1290,

First of all, I’m sorry that this happened to you. Unfortunately, as some players have said, there’s nothing we can do to help with this in-game situation.

However, “we” can change the wording that is used on the wiki and that it seems led you to believe something that is not accurate. This way we’ll remove room for interpretation and hopefully avoid anyone else ending up in this situation.

I used “we” between brackets above because the content of the wiki is entirely created by players that volunteer their time to this amazing task (they’re called “editors”). There are several ways for these changes to happen:

  • you could directly modify the pages to clarify the confusing parts by yourself: click on the “edit” button at the top of the article; I’d advise to create a wiki account first but you can still edit without it and will then be identified by your IP address on the wiki
  • if an editor is reading this thread, maybe they’ll do this change
  • we can share this information with the community of wiki editors: click on the link “leave article feedback” at the top of the article, share the information in the textbox and click the “Save” button when you’re done; this feedback may be read by editors who can then decide what changes are needed (if any) and how to format these changes.

I’d suggest to you or anyone in this thread who would contribute to the wiki on that particular topic, you should look in the direction of all the other legendaries, in case similar wording is used. You can click at the bottom of the Frostfang article the “Legendary weapons” link to see the corresponding category: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Category:Legendary_weapons

It’s also probably worth looking at the article about Legendary Weapons, because clarifying the wording could benefit a lot of players: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_weapon

Thanks.

I get the mistake but to elude to the fact that you couldn’t find a warning is a little shaky. I mean, if you think about ANY weapon that has effects, you already know you have to have the weapon equipped to get the effects and they don’t linger when you swap to another. You’re assumption was strange considering EVERY other weapon effect in the game works opposite to what you thought would be the case for a legendary.

IMO, you should sell your legendary if you haven’t bound it if it’s a big deal to you.
