Magic Find Gear improves drops?
(Bronze Soldier)
It’s RNG, i.e. random. Statistically, MF will improve your chances at getting better drops, but you will not be able to point to any one short window and say, “See, it does help!” or, “See, it doesn’t help!” Let’s say that the base chance to get a rare item is .5%. 200% MF would improve that to 1.5%. In any given small sample, the .5 or 1.5 numbers might come up, or might not. Over the long haul, the law of averages says that there will be an improvement.
Yeah I ran about a week of MF at around 240 i think it was with food and weapon buff stacks and noticed no real difference. So I gave up.
I like running events and gathering stuff but with no real reason to just gives me more time to hang out in WvW.

Probability isn’t as cut and dry as one would like.
Actually there’s a number of problems with MF right now. It’s supposed to improve chances of drops but only seems to function in dungeons and only marginally, it then also lowers the number of drops you receive tremendously. And it doesn’t work on bags or chests at all.
basically you trade your fire power or survival for a chance of better drops. So outside of event framing group this MF wont be noticeable.
You’d probably get better drops from not using mf, since you would be killing much more and much faster. Using like a 200% mf boost just to go from a .5% drop rate to a 1.5% drop rate isn’t much of a big deal.
I use mf gear in fotm run and I say I find named exotic in every 6-10 run.
The issue here is DR as well. It manipulates what you get over certain period of time. If DR were removed then, perhaps, MF might be usefull.

I think it does work. I’ve only got 50%, but dungeon runs I find I get more cores/lodestones than without, on average of course
There was a lot of data of malfunctioning MF in a thread that was closed and replaced by this one – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Share-your-data-about-perceived-strange-drop-behavior-here.
I am not using MF anymore, because it seems to lower my drops even further.
