Isiah Cartwright’s post and the Wiki note that Magic find does not apply to loot from chests.

As of the January 28th update:
In PvE, if a player is awarded loot by killing a creature and the loot is of uncommon rarity or higher, a chest will appear that contains the loot that would previously have been on the corpse.

This concerns me due to the amount of gold I have just spent on a Magic Find set. Does this mean the loot from the corpse chest now acts as a normal chest? Does it still count as a monster drop and thus takes into account Magic Find?

Clarification is needed in this matter. I don’t wish to take official responses for granted, but Arenanet seems to be very active in clearing up mysteries and such response would be greatly appreciated.

No. The loot is still determined normally – based on your MF and whatnot. With that said, if you happen to get a green drop or above, it will come packaged in a nice little “Wooden Chest” (actual name) instead of the sparkly stuff around the corpse. Open the chest and grab your (predetermined before you open it) loot.

The chest is there to tell you if its trash (porous bones.) Or a blue/masterwork/rare/exotic drop.

It is not an actual chest itself (its actually a “wooden chest”) and only acts as a visual aid.

Magic find will still affect the loot you get from the mobs and if it is something good a visual aid (chest in this case) will tell you.

Basically put, it isn’t a real chest.
