Is there any way to mail people stuff simply by clicking on their character or copying and pasting their name into the mailer.
I usually try and tip mesmers who provide ports for the daily JPs, but some characters have funny names with dots above the letters of their name which you cant type on a normal kbd.

Easiest way I’ve found is to add them to friend’s list, right-click to mail from the list. (I sometimes have to do it for people who are offline, too — their names don’t necessarily autocomplete or even allow sending without the account name.) After tipping, I remove the name from the list.

Slightly related, but recently I received a salty mail in game from a guy with weird characters in his name which I was unable to replicate to be able to block him from sending me mails, I was actually appearing offline so that’s why he used this method to call me some undesirable names shall we say, anyway my point is, there should be an option in the mail UI to block sender, seems its been overlooked.

If you are able to click on their character then you can just right click on their portrait and select “Send Mail”.

You can also type those characters using alt codes http://www.codetable.net/altkeycodes

Click reply and copy it from the “To:” field.

As Khisanth said if you can see them in the game you can click their character, then right click their portrait to get options like ‘sends mail’, ‘report’, ‘add to friends list’ etc.

I can’t get in game to check now but if I remember correctly you can also right click their name in chat to get the same list of options.

you can always at any time click a player, and then at the top of the screen click their icon and then click ‘send mail’ of after they’ve said something in chat, click their name and ‘send mail’. But this will only work if you’re physically near them, or have their name in the chat.

I think you are able to report the mail message. I would also take a screenshot and file a bug report, no one should be “protected” because they use special characters in their name.

Yes, you can mail someone from right clicking the name in chat. I do it all the time.

I just want to be able to block these pure cowards that only pull crap in big crowds where we cant find them. Can someone explain how these special character names are even allowed, or what set of key strokes is required to put a ’ symbol over the letter a in the middle of a name?

http://www.alt-codes.net/ you can type them using alt codes. Those characters are used in various languages such as German and French.

Yes, I looked at that page but it does not explain how to accomplish the task. I tried several things, several ways, none of which worked.

I’m not really sure how that is helpful, if there is only one character that is special, as stated.

I almost hate to reply to a necroed (sp?) thread, but if you’re using Windows 10, you can also try the Character Map app under the Windows Accessories folder on the start menu.

Chances are the game interface uses the Arial font. On the bottom right of the app window is the alt-code for the specific character selected when using the app. Hold down the alt key and type the number on the numeric keypad (then release alt) to create the character.
