That would be pretty great. I assume it was probably grey-only to tie it to Gandalf the Grey, since it appeared to celebrate the first Hobbit movie, but it’s a struggle to match it to most outfits when I can’t dye it.
I can dye the rest of my clothes to match, but, given my white beard and staff, that leaves me thirteen dwarves away from setting into motion my own plan to destroy Primordus. ):
I still remember the dismay with which I realized the hat would not dye. It is absolutely adorable on on of my sylvari, but her tones are in whites and golds and creams and browns. To quote the Monty Python parrot sketch, “it don’t work!”
(Full quote comes from Palin telling Cleese he sent Cleese to Ipswich rather than Bolton because “it were a palindrome.” And Cleese goes, “The palindrome of Bolton would be Notlob. It don’t work!” Which has stuck with me for decades thanks to my linguist father laughing so hard he couldn’t breathe after seeing that part of the sketch. So the line is part of my repertoire).
I think there’s a bigger issue they should aim their efforts at first. Something that has been on my annoyances list for roughly two years now. Hats.. makes you bald. It doesn’t matter how lush and nice your hairstyle is, you go bald the moment you put on a hat. How about some generic “tucked up”-looking hairstyles attached to these items, which takes the hair color of your character into consideration to give the illusion of it being your hair? If your character is in fact bald, then of course, that is not a problem, but it is for those who aren’t. If they’d let us dye some things like the Wizard(s) Hat (Oh my freaking kitten kitten kitten kitten’d kitten.. this kitten filter, it can go kitten.. let’s add a few more kitten for good measure. I hate this filter..), that’d be welcome, but if I weren’t bloody bald with these things, I’d welcome that far more. It’s great little items that I never use because they just don’t work together with my character when I go bald because of them. Nothing against balding people in real life, you’re beautiful, but my character is not bald.
One reason I love the Wizard Hat is that it goes low enough behind to hide that bald effect, actually. I do agree with needing a colored hair patch — WoW does that (or did, I haven’t checked in years) and it always amused me but at least it could just be “tucked up”. Even into tiny pillbox hats … yeah ….
There are more than a couple nice hats that I wish I could use, but won’t, because my character is suddenly bald, which is jarring and strange. I mean, sure, hats clip with hair, but if that’s too big a problem to overcome, even in a “add some tucked-under hair” sort of way, why introduce those kinds of hats in the first place?
As Donari says, I like the Wizard Hat because it sidesteps the problem. I know the inability to dye this old, limited-run skin is not the most important problem in the world, but it’s still frustrating.
