Make reporting automatically block people
What if someone has a completely full block list? Would it bug out and not report in that case? If it does, will people know the report failed and why?
1. Unlimited block list. Data isn’t very expensive these days. Well atleast it is still cheaper than obviously stopping gold selling or it wouldn’t be happening right? Have you stood in the heart of the mists for 5 mins?
The size of the block list appears to be unknown but I very much doubt it’s unlimited.. The only thing I found with a quick search was back in 2012 where someone tested it and found high numbers of blocks caused problems.

“I tested the block list yesterday and managed to block over 270 people before time ran out. The limit is probably 500 (same as guild limit) or more (1k?). Needs further testing.
stress test 6 edit: If my calculations are right I managed to block over 500 guys. Having (600+) players in friend/block list (combined?) will cause lag on low-end systems and because of that I don’t want to test it further on this laptop. In the end it took 30 seconds to open the contacts list."
Personally I prefer to be the one making the decision to block or not. (And yes, I do spend time in the Mists).

That sounds like you’ve helpfully specified an acceptance criteria for the QA team: if the user’s block list is full (if that’s possible, of course) the report must still be completed.
That’s the kind of requirement that’s easily supported once it’s clearly specified and understood (it can be met simply by reporting the user first and then trying to add them to the block list).
Also, if it’s an issue then adding it as another option would be good; “Report”, “Block” and “Report and Block”.
Gold sellers that are banned from the game should not be on anyones blocklist anymore right? It’s no use that they remain there.
I’d rather keep eyes on those I report in case they need to be reported again.
Auto block is dangerous. What if get abused?

Abused? They are just automaticly added to your personal blocklist nothing more.
I can see why it’s separate. For me it depends on the reason. Now, if they could make it so, say, gold spammer was automatically blocked, but something like ‘verbal abuse’ was not (you had to manually block), then that might be useful.

Correct
For me is is a two step process.
If I report someone, I subsequently then block them.
At no time do I report and NOT block, so automatic blocking would be nice. This goes for any reporting reason. Whether it be gold sellers or verbal abuse. If I report someone for verbally abusing anyone, then I under no circumstances ever want to speak with that person for ANY reason. I don’t need to leave them unblocked to see if anything happens to them, that is for ANet to sort out not for me to monitor.
Now it may just be me but I consider verbal abuse an intolerable action.
If they do it once – Suspended
If they do it a second time – Banned
Sellers on the other-hand should be Banned immediately.

There are times when someone might block, but not report. For example, If a person is being annoying in map chat but not breaking TOS, they might block them but not report.
I can think of one scenario when someone would report but not block. If the character’s name breaks TOS and he reports it but doesn’t block.
Maybe it will be easy to set up gold sellers as a simultaneous block and report. But since they are part of one list and because this feature doesn’t already exist, to me this means gold sellers would need to be separated out of that list and set up differently, perhaps in their own list, and a combination block/report made for them. This may be more extra work than ANet is willing to do, especially since it only takes a second for the players to block.

- Yes, block but not report is different though than the OP’s Make reporting automatically block people.
- I guess the Character Naming Scenario might be a possible exception but again IMO everyone I have reported for TOS naming infringement I also blocked. Now granted I have only reported offensive violations. I don’t tend to report just plain old stupidity.
- What if there were just a Report & Block option on right click
