Making Hall of Monuments assets available
A lot of people worked very hard achieving the Hall of Monuments rewards in Guild Wars 1. To let other people who didn’t so, so easily get it now, especially via gem store, is tacky.
4 years early access and getting all free is not enough of a bonus?
I’d actually be happier if they updated the Hall of Monuments ‘vendor’ with some new items.

Ya great, they sure can develop the Hall of Monuments mechanic in GW2, make us work for it, hard. Conncet it to the lore, all options are open. But remove the GW1 lock which is concrete inaccessible wall.

Not free at all, we had to buy GW1, the campaigns and Eye of the North. Then we had to spend days, weeks, months, years to get them. There was no early access, we payed for them with real money and a lot of time. If people want them. They can still get them, the same way everyone else had to. GW1 is still there, you can still play the game and get everything. Go to the Player helping player sub forum and there are people there who will help you get all the skins as quickly as possible.

How is it an inaccessible wall?

It’s much cheaper for someone to earn the rewards now, than it was when I earned them. I think that’s enough bonus and incentive for the so-called ‘non-GW1’ players.
Besides, (and this is an actual promise ArenaNet made), it was stated that the Hall of Monument rewards would never be available by other means.
I’m sure you could earn your own rewards if you put your mind to it.
Good luck.
PLZ Consider making Hall of Monuments assets available by other means
Hall of Monuments in GW2 is inaccessible for most current GW2 community and it’s a shame as lots of GW2 assets are locked behind a wall which is no longer relevant.
Giving veterans GW1 players an extra bonus and motivation was a great idea 4 years ago but now it feels an obsolete system, the chance that non GW1 players will pick up the game and invest tons of hours for the skins is very low, probably close to 0. I think that giving the veterans GW1 players free and 4 years early access on the skins is enough of a bonus.
Plz consider giving access to Hall of Monuments in GW2 by other means that doesn’t include GW1, it can be the gem store, game content, a collection achievement, all options are fine.
What do you think?
Go buy GW1 and earn them? Sorry but I came into GW1 late and I’m well on my way to getting alot of the items, I know alot of others who did the same, the amount of backlash ANet would get after the amount of work we put into getting them, lol….lol.
I personally am going for my GWAMM and fellblade and if they suddenly just handed them out after the months and months of grinding I have done, yea I’d be kittened.
And your statement that its a concrete inaccessible wall….nope, you can buy the game still and still earn them, so your wrong, its accessible plain as day, you just don’t want to do the work.

You can always go to the Players Helping Players forum ans ask for help in GW1
i have seen several posts where multiple people where always willing to give a lot of helpful advice or offer their help directly ingame
Many others offered to give away minipets and other stuff to help people with their HoMs
just ask nicely and be willing to invest a bit into GW1 and you can easily reach 30 HoM points (without tons of grinding or massive gw1 knowledge needed)

This so much. I came into GW1 blind just a month before GW2, spent a few hours on the forums played the game for a bit and was soon plowing through content. The power creep and heros make most of the game feel like a deep single player game. Only a few things require other people. And those are only really needed if your going for GWAMM.
Players that want the HOM rewards can do what everyone else did and go play GW1 and earn them. It’s a great game and perfect to play during content droughts.
I disagree with the idea of having other means of access to HoM. First, it would be crazy unfair to people who spent dozen of hours on GW1 for it as part of the marketing campaign for GW2 who will regret long and never trust Anet marketing ever again. Second, if you want the HoM rewards, it is not that hard nor expensive to buy GW1 and put your kitten to it. Depending on what reward you want, it may take long, though…
I agree with everyone else…go buy GW1 and earn HOM the proper way. I’ve been with ANET since 2005 and when Eotn came out, me and mine worked crazily to build our halls. Months and yes years of time were invested in building it. So stop wanting what others have with no effort involved on your part and EARN your rewards from GW1. Take heart, it’s easier now because you can just buy your way thru it seems. GAME ON
4 years early access and getting all free is not enough of a bonus?
LOL. “Early access” As if anyone who plays GW2 was eventually going to get access without playing GW1. It isn’t early as it was never meant for anyone but GW1 players. GW1 players who had the points got immediate access to the things they EARNED. Anyone can still earn those things. You are only entitled to them if you do the work, like most other titles and various items in GW2.
“Getting all free” – What the…? I don’t know if that statement is ignorant, delusional or entitled. Whatever the case may be, those things we got were in no way “free”.
(edited by jheryn.8390)
It’s not even that “hard” any more, just a time sink, once you figure out the game its actually pretty fun, even if its a decade old I still enjoy playing through it. Especially with the mesmer buffs XD
Go play gw1. That game deserves to be played for more than just its HoM rewards. Get the 3 campaigns and eotn, go do it!
I started GW1 late (about a year before GW2 came out) and got 20 points fairly easily and it was a lot of fun. Try GW1, it’s a great game.
That reminds me, I have to go open my GW1 character’s birthday presents and add the pets to the HoM again.
Go play GW1. I’m planning on buying it as soon as I have both the money and the time to play it to get those points. There are even tons of guides out there on how to get 30 HoM points quickly, or even all 50 (but that requires significantly more effort from my understanding). The players who did that deserve the exclusive rewards that comes with it. If you aren’t willing to do that then you don’t deserve any of them
4 years early access and getting all free is not enough of a bonus?
Implying that all GW1 players started GW2 when it launched. There’s many who tried GW2 and went back to GW1, many like myself who started GW2 quite some time after launch.
30 HoM points are a piece of cake. That gives you all the items. The titles shouldn’t be obtainable any other way and if you want them, put in the work for them. As for the posit that
the chance that non GW1 players will pick up the game and invest tons of hours for the skins is very low, probably close to 0
I know quite a lot of people in my guild who dabble in GW1 for skins, as well as people who went back to GW1 to earn the HoM rewards. Your idea wouldn’t just be cheapening the rewards for pre-GW2 players, but also a big middle finger to those who bought GW1 after playing GW2.
tl;dr go and earn the items yourself instead of thinking that everything can be instantly obtained with a credit card.
dragons, I sometimes wonder if we’ll ever find a way to save us from ourselves.”
(edited by Bellatrixa.3546)
Those of us who have access to these skins and minis earned it. You can earn the rewards (as many or as few as you want) by doing the same thing everyone else did: buy the game and EOTN, and earn the rewards. Plenty of people still farm things in GW1. You can look on the GW1 reddit for tips and help from players if you need it.
4 years early access and getting all free is not enough of a bonus?
No it’s not, because it never was early access bonus. It was a reward for loyalty and doing a lot of stuff in GW1.
You can’t ask for something to get made widely available and then devalue the rewards by calling them early access.
tl;dr go and earn the items yourself instead of thinking that everything can be instantly obtained with a credit card.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
It simply wouldn’t be fair to make these available by any other means, unfortunately. I do feel like the HoM rewards are a little too good in comparison to everything else, though. Some of ’em are incredible quality for free-to-apply skins, especially compared to the AP locked sets. Wonder why they got all the love.

I dont mind to sink the time in the game that I actually care about, i just dont think i need to sink time in a 11 years old game wih very low popoulation. 4 years ago it was somewhat reasonable, now its not.
Hall of Monuments in GW2 is inaccessible for most current GW2 community
You mean the Hall of Monuments rewards — the actual hall is accessible by anyone by acquiring a Hall of Monuments Portal Stone — " Sarettokk in Lion’s Arch sells them for free to all characters, regardless of account status."
and it’s a shame as lots of GW2 assets are locked behind a wall which is no longer relevant.
What’s your definition of “relevant”?
- It’s meaningful to GW1 veterans who started working on their achievements 7 years ago.
- It’s meaningful to GW2 veterans who bought (or started playing) GW1 in earnest after GW2 was well underway.
- It’s meaningful to you (although in a negative way).
Giving veterans GW1 players an extra bonus and motivation was a great idea 4 years ago but now it feels an obsolete system, the chance that non GW1 players will pick up the game and invest tons of hours for the skins is very low, probably close to 0.
I don’t understand why it matters what the chances are that people will go back to GW1 to work on the rewards: the rewards were designed to be an exclusive perk for GW1 players.
Regardless, many people work on them even today.
I think that giving the veterans GW1 players free and 4 years early access on the skins is enough of a bonus.
That is very generous of you to offer GW1 veterans so much time with “early access”.
What do you think?
I think you should explain why people aren’t willing to play GW1 to get these rewards. The hardest part for me would be playing a game without jumping (or gliding) and not being able to move while using (most) combat skills; the rest is just time.
4 years early access and getting all free is not enough of a bonus?

You clearly do not know what you are talking about, there are many people still playing GW1. I my self am still plying it, not for any reason other than I enjoy the game. The funny thing is, you do not need other people to play GW1. Once you have Hero’s you can do everything bar the deep and urzogs warren.

Well then you have your answer. You don’t think it is worth it to do what you need to do to get these rewards. So the actual rewards are not worth it to you.
Akin that to masteries. If you don’t think ley line gliding is worth having then you are not going to sink the time into getting the mastery. Same principle.
And “reasonable” in this instance is a very subjective term.

Only problem in your logic is that GW1 and GW2 are not the same game. Like I saied i want to play GW2 to get access for GW2 content and goodies. I dont even understand why players here so strongly push me to play GW1, you even admit its just a time sink process any one could do, so why not giving me and aquivilent option in GW2, why do you care in which game the effort and the time sink will take place? Make it a time effort, make it hard, make it costly, but kitten make GW2 content avilable for GW2 players.

GW2 only players know what assets and rewards are though, so they may very well bother with this post anyway. Still the rewards are not intended for players not interested in playing GW1 so perhaps they just recognize it and continue playing the game they do want to play, earning the rewards that they consider worth the time and effort.

You asked for feedback. I’m sorry you don’t like that others disagree with your point of view. The summary has been:
- It’s currently possible to get the rewards via the same methods everyone else has used.
- The game makes it possible to solo and a large fraction of players did so even before GW2 was announced, so it’s a moot point how many people are playing. Still, there are a substantial number around 24/7.
- ANet offered the rewards specifically as a way to honor GW1 veterans.

It’s a simple question. Do you want them? If the answer is yes, then you need to play GW1 to get them. If you are not fussed on getting them, then you don’t have to. It is that simple. Also it’s not Guild Wars 2 content. It’s a thank you to people for playing Guild Wars. The HoM rewards have nothing to do with Guild Wars 2. Do you understand now the difference between Guild Wars 2 content and the HoM skins?

We didn’t get it for free. We bought GW1 (many of us all three campaigns and then the expansion), and we also bought GW2. We also farmed (mats, gold, minis, missions, vanquishing and HM, pvp, etc.) to earn all of our HoM points. No one got them for free.

Which isn’t really an issue since it exists as a loyalty scheme for veteran players, with the added bonus of being open to new players who want to invest their time and explore the prequel, discover a great game for themselves and be rewarded for it here.
Also, some players posted here who aren’t GW1 vets and actually went to GW1 to do just that – so you got feedback from players who in fact were GW2 only until they discovered GW1

Thats your choice, just because you dont feel like playing another game means those that did and worked hard for years should be robbed???? Come on man, again, this is you just not wanting to do work for reward.
I played GW1 when it released until a couple weeks after Nightfall came out. All I really did was the story missions and then stopped playing. I then rebought the trilogy and EotN back in October 2014 and have slowly been working on my HOM. I could have finished it early last year if I really wanted to but I was in no rush. Now I’m just shy of 50 points with only obby armor, zkeys, miniatures, and a couple other minor things left before I have my 50 points. I can finish most if I sat in Kamadan trading.
I personally found obtaining the initial 30 points pretty easy. There’s a lot of flexibility if that is all that you’re going for.
4 years early access and freebies is enough honor.
You are mistaken. HoM rewards were advertised as exclusive. Anet sold copies of GW1 based on that advertisement. People continued with GW1, keeping their interest in the franchise fresh, based on that advertisement.
If you want to take something that people have paid for away from them you should be willing to cover the cost yourself. Thirty bucks each for a couple of million people would likely cover it.
The cool thing is that this exclusive club will take anyone willing to pay the entrance fee and existing members are willing to help cover that fee.
To be honest, I wouldn’t care if they were made available through other means.
But then I have had GWAMM and 50 points for ages. As long as the title stays, I don’t particularly care if other people have the skins.

No, my logic is perfectly sound. It doesn’t matter one iota that it is a different game. It is a requirement of GW2, the game you play, that you can only get the rewards from doing the content it requires whether or not it is a different game.
You say you want feedback, but you don’t even read the feedback you don’t want. You have been told how to get it, but don’t want to do it. You have been told that it was a PROMISE from Anet that it would not be available any other way. You have been told that these HoM rewards are a Thank You to people who played the game that gave life to GW2. Even with all this, you seem to think you are still somehow entitled to get the rewards somehow. It boggles my mind.

And like I siaed, i think that 4 years early access and freebies is enough honor. they can make GW2 only players work hard for what you got for free, why do care so much?
I see two things here.
1. You really don’t care what GW1 vets say. You just want others who feel the same way you do to come on and give you self justification to get things you have no right to.
2. Again, you have not truly read any of the feedback you have been given. IT IS NOT early access. These rewards WERE NOT FREE. We had to earn them and only get them as the game Guild Wars 2 dictates.
Get over it. You don’t deserve and will not get these things unless you do what is required to get them.
I have two GW2 accounts linked to GW1 accounts, so have the rewards on those. Then I have three GW2 accounts not linked to GW1 and so no rewards. I don’t miss the rewards on those “GW2-only” accounts, so I don’t understand what the big deal is. There are plenty of GW2 skins available to customize your look with. And titles? Who really cares? GW2 throws plenty at you.
Is there something in particular you are after? Perhaps a better request is a BL ticket weapon or an outfit similar to what you are looking for?
I’d actually be happier if they updated the Hall of Monuments ‘vendor’ with some new items.
Ya great, they sure can develop the Hall of Monuments mechanic in GW2, make us work for it, hard. Conncet it to the lore, all options are open. But remove the GW1 lock which is concrete inaccessible wall.
It’s not inaccessible. Go buy it and play it for your rewards like we did.
I don’t support this. I played gw1 since beta, got my accounts linked and put in the work.
There is a lot of items that are behind concrete walls, not accessible anymore. It actually is nice to have the population vary a bit depending on whether or not you put in effort during a given time period. Karka event no longer accessible, scarlet content too.
Hell you can’t even visit the old Lion’s Arch… what about those players that want to experience that?
I have 2 gw2 accounts linked to gw1 accounts so they have rewards on those. And this one which was a f2p convert to HoT. Still don’t think they should make it available unless you support the company in the same manner the gw1 players did … pay upfront for the unlocks at the cost similar to what it would take – 1 core + 1 expac
If they add that to the BL, say an 60-80 dollar buy in … then sure, unlock it all for those wanting to pitch in and support the company.
The first three rewards are given to you just for linking your accounts. Then it’s just three more rewards for the full armour set. I only played GW1 for the final year before GW2 came out, so I’d hardly call myself a GW1 Veteran, but I still managed 30/50 HoM rewards.
It wouldn’t bother me if there was another way to get them. I feel like I got most of them for free anyway because I was playing GW1 before GW2 and the HoM were even announced and most of the things required were things I’d do anyway.
I think the only ones I did purely for the Hall were making some extra Destroyer weapons and the Vabbian armour set. Oh and buying undedicated mini pets instead of dedicated ones, which it turned out I didn’t need to do as I had more than enough already. (But this was before the calculator was released, I thought every mini I added would contribute.)
All the rest of it I was just playing a game I enjoyed because I enjoyed it and the fact that I got stuff for another game was just a bonus.
I’d actually be happier if they updated the Hall of Monuments ‘vendor’ with some new items.

I do however disagree with this.
They are not locked behind a ‘concrete inaccessible wall’. You can still get them in exactly the same way everyone else did – buying and playing GW1. And contrary to your assertion in the first post that no one would do that now it happens on a regular basis. A lot of people in this topic have said they do exactly that, but we also get posts on this forum on a regular basis from people asking for advice on how to get HoM points or if it’s still possible to start.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I don’t think they should open up these skins for general use, they’re not even that flashy to start with, gemstore and in game available stuff more than compensate for not having the heritage stuff, besides, as OP has probaby noticed by now, it’ll just stir up the veterans who are quietly playing their way through every release (and stir up even more the vocal ones).
A very good idea on the other hand, would be to somehow rebuild the hall of monuments once the Pact gets up there to fight Jormag (if ever, of course), allowing new stuff to be acquired there, both lore and festival related (more christmas stuff other than divinity’s reach?). Of course, the heritage items should still be right there along with the ghost merchants for those who want to acquire it through GW1, but it should remain gated only by GW1, I think.

All feedback is welcome, but when you ask for feedback you want it from variuos types of players and when the feedback is from GW1 vetrans only, its getting generic and predictable. I would like to know what GW2 only players also think.
And like I siaed, i think that 4 years early access and freebies is enough honor. they can make GW2 only players work hard for what you got for free, why do care so much?
Ok, how about this: Gw2-only players must purchase 4 expansions, and attain 75,000 Achievement Points to unlock the Heritage items. Would that work for you? Seems about equivalent. That would be GW2-only players ‘work(ing) hard’ for what other got ‘free’.
That’s something I wondered about too. The HoM rewards were supposed to be a sign of a serious commitment to GW1 (as shown by the fact that most guides on how to get them recommend completing all 3 campaigns and the expansion as a starting point).
If they were added to GW2 it would have to be in a way that required a similar amount of time and effort.
I suspect that means they would have to be scattered around instead of all obtained in one place. For example the heritage armour in the gem store for the same price as GW1 complete edition, the ranger pets obtained by taming every other pet in the game, the weapons put at the end of various reward tracks etc.
And considering the OP described buying and playing GW1 as an impassable concrete wall preventing anyone from ever getting those skins unless they played GW1 before the sequel came out I doubt that would be an acceptable solution.
