Give us Malyck back! :c
I don’t want Canach I want Malyck! :c I don’t want Rata Novus and all the new (ekhm ‘inquest’) lore untill you explain what happened to our beloved Maly-bro sylvari and fill holes in the lore you did in HoT. I pre-paid once I heard about Heart of Thorns, excited about new lore and meeting him again but you listened to moaners in this forum and it’s the least favourite story in Guild Wars2 ever. It’s not Game of Thrones, it’s Guild Wars2 :c Even Mordremoth wasn’t a dragon but big fat lizard hippie pokemon.
Make him (MALYCK!) back! And the new Tree! Is it going to be Pale? Is it going to be male? I don’t think like I am going to buy next expansion pack in pre-paid style like I did with HoT. Next time I’ll wait and check all the things you provide…
Okay maybe that was so harsh, I’ll pre-paid if I see Malyck ;_;

And I don’t care about possible haters comments here! You killed Trehearne and made Caithe traitor! Your words doesn’t matter #sylvari #life #matters #more

You couldn’t be more wrong. We need to finish Sylvari story and then we can move to Asura and Charr. Making holes in lore it’s something we don’t need.

Actually… You would feel the same if Rytlock wouldn’t come back from Mists and his life would be one big question mark till now
Or at least Charr players, because I don’t know if you play charr one So what we need here is some empathy!

About last three years? Really watch your arguments, because they’re so wrong.
I remember that huge time we spent with Zhaitan. Then with Zephyrites and other little events. Now we’ve got kind of nice story that can explain Sylvari race for good and move on to next race lore and dragon, but because of forum moaners and devs following moans, it has lots of holes and gives us more questions than explanations. It’s almost around the end, but we need to gather some more informations about Sylvaris of another Tree, Malyck, Nigthmare Court + Mordremoth’s corruption relation and maybe Soundless too and about Pale Tree if she’s okay and what she has to say. That’s it. That can be done in next season. It is not so difficult and guess what – They told that they planned to do it in HoT but they had no time so they listened to players of course, which killed this expansion’s story.

p.s I don’t care if you had enough, when Living Story will come to your race and will give holes everywhere you’ll feel the pain that sylvari players feel now.
Be glad Rytlock is back and you know more or less what happened to him. We cannot be glad because our Malyck is not back. He is gone. Went to the jungle and any sign of him dissapeared. He told us that we’ll meet again with him. Now I want that. It’s the time.

BrotherBelial wasn’t entirely wrong though. It (the living story) basically all revolved around Sylvari in one form or another (like all the team ups, all focused on Scarlet, a Sylvari). Heck one of the main protagonists in one of the first LS (Southsun cove first/second time) was focused on a Sylvari (Canach).

Exactly. The whole expansion in the Jungle – Not even a single sign of Malyck and his Tree. Big disappointment after pre-purchasing the expansion.
He needs his big back into lore. We just cannot move on to the next dragon or anything else and leave this puzzle incomplete! There’s still place for his map, on the west from Dragon’s Stand. The story now has more dead-ends than ever.

Who the frell is Malyck?

Malyck is character in Sylvari’s lore that is not born out of Pale Tree. He becomes our friend and we even do several missions with him, but he is surprised by our “Sylvari’s from Pale Tree society” and he wants to find his own, the one he was born in, because he feels so lonely. He goes deep into the jungle to find his tree and as good bye says “We will meet again”.
I guess it’s time to meet him again and to remember anet this glorious and heroic character that every sylvari player liked and people even started to do memes and things all over tumblr, facebook and other sites. I want to cry when I see it all :c

I hope to see him in Living World Season 3. Now, not that I disagree or anything…..but I am an Asura and wish to take the spotlight with Rata Novus in LW S3

I respect you as an Asura, and your moment will defenitely come soon, after they finish Sylvari’s lore when it’s near the end!

Exactly, but Malyck wasn’t Mordrem. He was our friend and I don’t really belive he changed into Mordrem because of Mordremoth’s corruption after learning how strong his personality was.
It got me more spicy after I read devs comment that they were already bringing him back, but they had no time with HoT’s story development so they skipped it…and now players moan and they plan next expansion pack when the HoT story is not even complete. Duh. Doing new expansion when current expansion is incomplete is greedy is not it?

@eNeRgOo: Regardless of how stronk Malyck was, most Sylvari were shielded from the dragon by the dream (which Malyck wasn’t connected to). At most I’d have expected a fairly apologetic mordrem trying to kill you if you encountered him during the story arc.

Some folks are not into Dream nor Ventari’s Tablet – Soundless sylvari and Nightmare sylvari are the examples. They’re still around, not corrupted

Maybe he died

Nah, they wanted to add him into the story but skipped it because they had deadlines with HoT so they pushed it into the end so quickly. How many times do I have to say that? Obviously he is not dead

First of all don’t blame the community for disliking something they had no direct control over. It’s Arena Net shoddy writing that dug these plot holes in the first place. The Sylvari got a bad wrap because how Arena Net handled their in game lore. It’s like the writers don’t care about their work, and want to be somewhere else. So they have been writing a fan fiction narrative. Biggest one was the handling of Scarlet Briar. This even started when they completely murdered the founder of the nightmare court within the story mode of Twilight Arbor. Both Cadeyrn and Faolain had cheap deaths. They deserved better.

As for Malyck not getting extended lore. One the developers admitted they wanted a “summer blockbuster” equivalent of a story to be told in HoT. Basically they choose to take a sledge hammer to continuity, pacing, and character development. Just like Micheal Bay does with all his movies; in the need of more explosions. However replace the explosion with a “forced sense of urgency” and you get what Arena Net did with HoT main narrative. It’s more boring, when I actually think about it. Second another developer stated they did not want to sacrifice gameplay over story. Hence why the last two acts and some of the core GW2 personal story lore (incluing Malyck) got axed in HoT.

Season 2 felt like a baby step forward, while HoT was 2 steps way back for the narrative. Again not the fault of the communities, but how the in game lore has been delivered so far.

I’ve had enough of the Tree peoples story’s. The game has been about them for the last 3 years. Someone else should have the spotlight now.

It really hasn’t, though. The Personal Story was about the Orders coming together to fight Zhaitan. It had a Sylvari leader, but that does not make the story about the Sylvari race.

Season 1 was about several factions coming together to assault Lion’s Arch. It was lead by a Sylvari but it was not about Sylvari as a race.

Scarlet and Trahearne are individuals. We got fairly little Sylvari lore from those story arcs.

Season 2 started to give us Sylvari lore as it built up to Heart of Thorns, where the entire nature of Sylvari was revealed. Heart of Thorns was the main Sylvari story for the world and revolved heavily around Sylvari. However that story is NOT done yet.

There was an entire story arc concerning Malyck and the other Pale Trees out there we haven’t met and how they were dealing with Modremoth that was left out of HoT’s story for time constraints, as well as another arc focusing on the Nightmare Court and how they are dealing with it. These are two HUGE chunks of Sylvari lore that was flat out ignored in the Sylvari focused expansion.

Then in Season 2 we have the Pale Tree herself ATTACKED by one of Modremoth’s champions. She was weak, maybe even dying, when we saw her last but we’ve not gotten ANY news about how she’s doing since then. The Pale Tree potentially being grievously wounded is HUGE for the Sylvari as a race, and was completely ignored by HoT’s story.

And finally we have the very nature of the Dream itself. Where it comes from, what connects the Pale Tree to it, and why Modremoth can access it. If it’s a product of Modremoth why does it shield Sylvari from his control? What is Modremoth’s connection, if any, to the Nightmare?

And all of this is ignoring the BIGGEST mystery yet. What is going to happen to the Modrem? In the HoT story we meet a Modrem Guard who, after going far enough under ground to escape Modremoth’s range, was able to regain some form of his sanity. This is again HUGE. This means that without Modremoth’s influence the Modrem should regain their lost minds. Now that Mordremoth is dead what will happen to the now free Modrem Guard? Will they try to return to the Grove? Will they remain Modrem Guard and form their own faction? We need to know.

Switching to another race here would be insanely awkward and kitten off a lot of Sylvari players. The expansion’s story just wasn’t big enough to answer all our questions, and worse yet it actually raised MORE questions than it answered. There are a lot of incredibly important plot details left just floating there unresolved like the Pale Tree’s status and the future of the Modrem Guard. if season 3 doesn’t at least have a sub-plot that explains some of this it will be a tragedy of storytelling.

This is like if Anet was working on a charr story where Gaheron returns and achieves godhood, then launches a massive attack on Black Citadel, killing Smodur and taking the Claw of the Khan-Ur for himself, declaring his intention to be named Khan-Ur. Then just… Leaving the story there to focus on the norn.

I have to blame the community. They wanted Trehearne killed – they got it. Before HoT they called Caithe traitor on forums – They got it. In HoT my character yelling at Caithe “You traitor!” or “Kill her off if she moves”. This is the most annoying point, because at the end of LS2 I made all choices in dialogues with Marjory and other heroes after she stole the egg that she’s okay, she knows what she’s doing, she’s thief and knows the world more than me, she’s my friend, i like her etc. etc. My character screaming traitor to her is moment when the story had it’s own big fail, because:
a) it doesn’t follow-up the previous choices,
b) doesn’t give us choices,
c) is following forum people opinions, which is catastrophe here.

Going to next lore – Rata Novus is around – and not completing Sylvari’s lore in LS3 will be the point when I’ll probably take a long break of this game, because I’ll know that my character is one big no sense.
P.s Yeah, as a story fan I am soo excited about Rata Novus even though I am not Asura.
After Rata Novus I bet we’ll get next expansion pack etc. etc. BUT it’s just pointless to make story go there, when HoT’s expansion one is incomplete.

Now that Mordremoth is dead what will happen to the now free Modrem Guard? Will they try to return to the Grove? Will they remain Modrem Guard and form their own faction? We need to know.

I agree with your comment so much! It’s good to know that people still care and want the story into the end.
I’ll quote this small fragment just to point something out They can return to Pale Tree’s Grove, but they can also try to return the Grove of another Tree.
Will we meet that tree? Will we meet Malyck finally?! Or more like – Their Tree is going to be dead and they’ll join our Pale one? Or! – Thinking about Pale Tree status, will WE move to another tree, because our will be dead? Will Malyck help us with that unite?
If they leave that story, I seriously am going to vacation from GW2 to another game.

Again no one was holding Arena Net hostage, and forcing them to kill off those characters. It was Arena Net who pulled that trigger (metaphorically speaking). We criticize the writing because it was and still is awful. First of all Trahearne got severely disliked because his character was kind of shoe horned into the role of pact leader. It was a terrible transition from what he was, to what he became. He was also dull and loved to speak in exposition. He sort of became more tolerable in season 2 of the living world. I am even going to say: Did he deserve the death he got? No. Neither did Eir.

The problem is that Arena Net has used the tool of death like it’s some magic wand to make us feel empathic for something. It doesn’t. Instead it invokes frustration because the death is so meaningless. Just like the anger your feeling right now. I felt when so many fodder characters were written into the lore to only be killed in the next story step forward. No characters development means that we can’t relate to some of these people. Perfect example of this is Marjory’s sister Belinda. Did you know originally at the end of season 1 that Marjory was going to be killed off? The writers scrapped that idea and then threw in her sister instead. She died in less the 2 episodes within season 2. I felt nothing for her at all when she died, because I barley knew her. Or how about scruffy forced “death” scene that was suppose to move us emotionally in HoT?

As for Caithe and the egg. I knew the writers were writing themselves into a corner for that one. That made little to no sense whatsoever. It still doesn’t after playing through HoT. Why? Well because it was Caithe’s “New Wild Hunt” that even the Pale Tree had no clue about it. Like I said shoddy writing. We don’t tell Arena Net to make this stuff up. They do it all by themselves.

Or how about scruffy forced “death” scene that was suppose to move us emotionally in HoT?

That actually was very emotional to me and made me sad. I know Scruffy is a robot, golem actually but it has it’s own artificial intelligence, which is not somehow worse than ‘ours’. He did what he had to, and whole scene was depressive, but right after Taimi told that no worries and she’s going to repair him, so it gave us – players – hope, and there’s no sadness anymore. I cannot say that about Trehearne or Eir or MALYCK

We don’t tell Arena Net to make this stuff up. They do it all by themselves.

Yeah, but first people moan on the forums, so they see those senseless ideas and they implement them into the game and then game makes no logic. They should kind of follow things they did previously, that’s why I want Malyck and Sylvari’s lore made into the end finally, not Rata Novus story start. What’s the point of playing sylvari race character and doing the story when it’s just twisted, without logic and isn’t following up previous stories?

After finishing with Sylvari, showing us Malyck, other Tree, reavealing Pale Tree status, some dialogues that would at least answer some question, after all of that they should go to Rata Novus.

LS3 split into two plots is not a bad thing actually. One into Sylvari’s Lore and Malyck!!! Second into Rata Novus, then two stories meeting at the end point. Or you first get to know the rest about Sylvari, then Taimi is sending us letter and We go to her lab and there it goes.

If you are a charr and he’s not your warband survivor, he’s sorry that he never managed to get back to HQ after the battle against Barradin (Everyone was scattered, and he just kept going killing ghosts until he got lost), but incredulous that anyone could believe mere ghosts could kill him. I can see what you mean. However the writers have also even given us the middle finger (again metaphorically speaking) before, by doing the thing you suggesting. During the last scene with Scarlet Briar where she was going to reveal why she did it. Braham comes over and tells her that he does not care. He rather bash her skull in first. Later on one of their writers (Angel McCoy) tells us they did not want to have Scarlet do another stereotypical megalomaniac villain archetype end-game monologue. As if it at the last moment they were trying to clever while having the primary antagonist who was the embodiment of the word: “cliché.” In the end I wanted information/motivation for Scarlet’s rampage and the trade off is I got Scarlet’s death. It felt like that scene from Jurassic Park where Ray was trying to get around Nedry hack. As if I was Ray and A-Net’s writers were Nedry’s virus mocking me. However it was more anticlimactic.

I agree and not agree with this one.
After killing Scarlet you get cutscene and trailer of what she managed to do, that’s first.
In Dry Top story you get to know why she went mad – She got into Ley-Line machine, got to know how world works and either ended as Mordremoth’s Intelligent marionette, which is unlikely, because dragon was asleep then and she just woke him up. Plus some little scenes when you see where she was working, what she was doing, planning etc. So I’d say, she was more like a terrorist. She wanted to show the truth about Sylvari she got to know by herself when enlightened because of Ley Line Machine… Sooo she woke him up. That was in her twisted mind. She dropped nuclear bomb also when being Kamikaze, and the rest was done by a bomb.
So it’s not like you don’t get informations, because you get.

With Malyck you get information about new Tree and possible other society of Sylvaris in the Jungle. Then HoT is around and you think about meeting new Sylvaris and Malyck. Then HoT comes out, you buy it, you play the story and there’s no Malyck anywhere nor his Tree and any sign anywhere. Now HoT is """"finished"""", and it’s time for LS3 and you have no idea if they’re going into Rata Novus leaving the Sylvari lore with even more questions than ever. Or they’re going to explain the Sylvaris into the end, answer our questions, at least some of them, show us other Tree, Malyck and finally Rata Novus and our little gnomeshi-inqueshi friends and another Dragon.

I bet lots of players think I have Malyck fetish or something. Absolutely not. Of course it is my favourite character we get to know in Guild Wars2, because he’s so mysterious and gave us questions about Sylvaris so it’s natural that we want answers now, and it’s kind of right time because Mordy is gone. Time to reveal everything about planty people and move on, but that must be slow style reveal not the HoT style reaveal one… At the other point situation like this could happen to any character. As I told before – for example Rytlock. If they wouldn’t bring him back from the Mists people would react exactly like I do. Because he – as well – is some kind of important character to Charr lore.

I swear to God any expansion that focusses on the Asura will be an expansion I shall avoid like the plague! It’s bad enough that Taimi exists in all her stunted patheticness, but if I have to put up with more of the wee rainbow munching potogold seeking bar stewards I will lose my kitten. The Asuran race needs to be collectively rammed into the SAB where they can be enjoyed as punching bags in place of that poor shop keeper’s cart.

They are terrible! They can’t be cute, because they have shark teeth. They can’t be comedy relief, because they are so full of themselves. Their stories aren’t interesting, and are completely cliche. The entire race simply fails at every conceivable level. Moto is the single exception to this, so as I said, the Asura may make a return every April Fools festival for a little while.

Taimi is awesome and the best NPC guildwars 2 has ever created since release, if it wasn’t for seeing her in Hot expac i wouldn’t have even bothered purchasing Living Story 2..

The problem was they left it open in a very nonsensical way at the end of season 1. Yes, season 2 answered some of those questions but not all of it. Due to the feedback that was left at the end of season 1. Otherwise it would have never happened. I still don’t know how she got some of those alliances to work together. However out of the game I technically know why; thanks again to Ms. McCoy. To me there are still some things that Scarlet did that seem illogical to pull off without anyone really noticing.

Honestly though let me get my prediction for season 3 out of the way now. I think the whole Malyck thing is going to happen, but not in the way you hope it will turn out. If they follow the pattern they have been doing lately then it might turn out that we already have unknowingly came across that “other pale tree” during HoT. Malyck will either be found dead. Or barley alive enough to tell you what happened. The writers then try to convey that your pale tree is unique now as it’s the only one left standing. The pale tree itself will make a miraculous recovery because of Mordremoth death. They still need her to be Glint 2.0.

The rest of the plot will get thrown under a bus unfortunately. Due to them trying to fix the rest of those plot holes left over in HoT. The focal point will remain……. Elder Dragons & Destiny Edge 2.0. By the way if Logan or Zojja dies it’s another pointless death like Eir’s. You then go back to Taimi where she will tell you why Mordremoth weakness made perfect sense. Rytlock plot line doesn’t matter anymore. You really think Black Citadel is not going to except Rytlock coming back with open arms? Your kidding yourself if you think differently. Considering how nonchalant they took his disappearing in the first place. Unless he start spiting out Titan magic, I think his status is fine. Mr. “E” plot line is still written out very slowly or revealed very poorly.

Marjory pays her final respects to Belinda before moving on. Kasmeer get reinstated to her noble status officially with a party in Divinity’s Reach. Canach stays the brooding anti-hero. Braham and Rox stay very one dimensional. At least Braham won’t turn into Logan 2.0. All the while the set up for the next copy and paste Elder Dragon threat will appear (champion/mouth and all). Just before expansion 2 trailer shows up at the end of either season 3 or 4.

That would be poor plot writing that would make people go and not come back into this game after the expansion money we gave them. Look, theres still area around Dragon Stand and lots of people say it’s where the Malyck and his Tree is. I hope that they’re going to add the things they wanted to add but had to cut them in HoT because they had their deadlines. Don’t forget that we are now in Heart of Thorns expansion so they should create content around it, for a while at least. Maps are not fully revealed. Still some places where we can possibly go to.

Don’t kill Malyck, his Tree and the finale of Sylvaris lore kitten so quickly. If they would follow your story then I am going to quit and invest more time in studying than play GW2 and care about ANET, hahaha!

Maps in Maguuma are not even fully showed out. I once broke out of Dragon Stand, because I glide into wrong cave and jumped couple stones too much and there was area that for me it looked like it’s waiting for its grand opening and maybe there… there’s a little hope…
Aaaand my Malyck-Bro and his Father Tree (bease why not?) is going to be there! My soul and souls of other salad players would be then complete! Just think about it! Think about the possibilities!

People, please read the previous comments.
He is Sylvari from completely different Tree than Pale one. You meet him in Sylvari’s lore.
He went into the Jungle to look for his origins. He told that he’ll be back with answers.
Now we want Malyck, and answers!

The previous comments don’t say anything about where he’s from/where to meet him. Sorry if I didn’t make that clear. I’ve heard a lot of talk about him, but never found him in-game. But, from your reply I take it he’s someone you meet in the Sylvari Personal Story? (Which I have not played – Charr only for me)

I threw up a little reading this. I despise the superfriends, and that little bundle of bad tropes Tiami most of all. I walked out of the LS because of the horrific writing. Glad I missed them callously backhanding Eir out of the game.

Ley lines. The perfect solution to deadlines and writers block. Now in an easy open Can.

Exactly, you meet Malyck in the Sylvari’s Personal Story You do several mission with him, you become friends etc. and then he’s going west, right into the Jungle seeking for answers and with promise of coming back It’s a long time before Mordremoth so I bet he found his Mother/Father Tree and they were defending themselves against Mordremoth. He couldn’t be corrupted because he had rather strong personality, plus Dream is not something that defends from Corruption (Soundless, Nightmare Court) They cutted this story off HoT, that’s the reason why I made this post and I just want to remember that some people paid for HoT, because they care about Story, and they thought they will find that old funny friend!

Tybalt is someone who had a story arc. There’s a difference between the “Sacrificial Lion/Lamb” tropes, and “Put on a Bus” (Which is apparently Malyck’s case). Tybalt and the other Order Mentor’s stories are concluded.

But Tybalt was somebody who sacrificed himself, he had his story told and moreover! You can find him in Stronghold PvP when you summon that Gate Killer. This hero is not forgotten, while I cannot say the same about Malyck.

Malyck is somebody who has his own unfinished tale to… finish. This tale is really important to Sylvari’s lore, because it’ll answer the questions we had before HoT, and even more questions we have after HoT.
Now just think about it – They had his lore on the tables while doing HoT, and they didn’t implement it into the game, that means – in my sincere opinion – that they sold us unfinished product. So why people keep asking about next expansion pack, while even first one is not done yet? Especially story that will end Sylvari lore and also rest of our HoT Legendaries. I don’t want next unfinished product, I wouldn’t even buy it. I want HoT to be completed, my character’s race lore finished and HoT legendaries implemented and then we can move to next expansion Why LS1 and LS2 were so great when HoT was kind of weird, pushed too quickly and you feel that ""what? and that’s it?"" at the end?
People should cry less about next expansion… really. You want the same thing but with Asura? Like… you don’t know what happended and some of the heroes went missing forever? I don’t want next unfinished expansion. I want Malyck and his Mother/Father Tree and HoT to be finished

As I alluded to, she is simply completely cliche. She fills every trope imaginable bringing nothing interesting or any sense of purpose to the table. She is every teenage exchange student turned mecha pilot, every detective turned vigilante, every downtrodden underdog who must win the respect of her peers. She is nothing but a burden to the rest of the team and she lacks personality. In the face of more driven characters like Caithe or Marjory, she is little more than a living, limping disability. Did I also say her voice sounds like chalk on a whiteboard? Because it does. Wretched little thing. ANet missed an opportunity to make her truly interesting by melding her into her golem in the underground city, that would have been cool. But oh well, hopefully she has been written out of the story and we can get someone new to replace her. A Skritt character would tick all the boxes for cute underdog, and actually be a cute underdog.

Wanna bet he is already been killed millions times over?

Just think of it this way. He went west into the jungle where Mordy is and doesn’t have the dream to sorta protect him (though he may have the focus/determination/whatnot to resist the call, like Canach). Even if he didn’t answer the call, he could still have been captured like the DE group, only noone saved him. Either way, he became a Mordrem. Then we killed him (with lots of fire).
End of story, on to the needed Asura/Charr/Norn focused living stories.

Taimi and Scruffy were the only emotional-ish part of the story for me.
Eir – ehh, was expected.
Trahearne, didn’t necessarily hate him, but don’t really care about him/that he finally got killed.
