Map bonus rewards?
If you hover your mouse over the map name on the world map you will see the possible map rewards (the one that you will get for doing events is at the top, the 4 items below it are for doing more events). Be aware that the 4 items below the current reward are there in random order and just sum up all the potential rewards. The order in which you will get rewards is visible on the gw2 wiki (just search map rewards and you’ll see the order of rewards).
Map rewards follow a rotation of 8 weeks. So if you look at a random map we are now in the Week 2 rewards (it will reset on Thursday, and then it will give the “week 3” rewards till the next Thursday). On the wiki you’ll see a list of all the maps and their current reward, if you click on ‘[other rewards]’ in the right part of the table, you’ll get the weekly rewards.
You earn points by doing events, for every golden badge (event participation) you will get 100 points, and every 200 points you will earn a map reward.
Every 4000 and 8000 points you get 10 [insert items], this is probably some extra incentive for you to keep going till you actually get that far.
Map rewards are not influenced by MF, they are influenced by the Map Reward bonus guild boost (max 10%). You can also buy items from the Pact vendors from the Pact Mastery, each item will reward 200 points (so 1 map reward) for a total of 1200 points (thus 6 rewards). be aware that the item will give points to the map completion of the map you are on (and not the map where you bought the item).
They say mini-dungeons and jumping puzzles also reward points, but I haven’t personally tested it.
