Marketing Ideas for ANET next>> GW2 Expansion
Well only one of your ideas are reasonable enough to get implimented
But then again it would problabely be locked behind new gemstore tools to be honest.
-Unlimited Harvesting/Chopping/Mining tools that yield something extra that is useful in game for crafting, or gives something that is purely cosmetic.
Examples: Harvesting Tool: small chance at rare dye (account bound), Chopping tool: small chance of higher tier wood when chopping a lower tier wood, Mining Tool: small chance at mining aura specific essences which when combined eventually yields a socket-able aura essence (account bound)>> (color selection of aura selectable)
Good ideas, although there would be a flaw with the chopping tool. It wouldn’t make sense to get a higher tier wood from a lower tier tree. And I have to agree that the tools would probably be locked to the gem store.
Also a playable race i would like would be the Tengu.
One good marketing idea would be to make this go away:
IMO the extra racial skills are more reasonable, because they hardly would mess the economy, PvP balance or gemstore sales… They still would be a lot of work for little impact…
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

1. Different voice overs could happen. This doesn’t bother me, so I would personally rather have the money for the new voice actors spent elsewhere. However, I could also see how other people would enjoy a new voice.
2. Highly, Highly unlikely. There have been many posts created explaining why this would be nearly impossible to do or require about a whole expansions worth time and resources to accomplish. For example, they would have to go back and modify every single piece of armor present in the game to make it work with the new race. They would also have to do new voice acting for every sing story from living world season 2 up to the present. There are other issues as well. Right now, the best thing for them to do is to just add more infinite combat tonics. Yes, many would complain when they see a Tengu infinite combat tonic thinking a new Tengu race will never come. However, they just need to rip the bandaid off and get in done and over with. The more infinite combat tonics, the better. It would also help if they added a lot more lore with the other races to make people feel better, especially about the Tengu.
3. These quality of life items are in the gem store right now. The Watchwork Mining Pick has infinite uses and gives you a chance at watchwork sprockets. Therefore, it is likely these items will remain in the gem store. If they added them to the game, it would devalue other player’s purchases, leading to complaining. Besides, you can always spend in game gold to buy gems to get the infinite harvesting tools already.
4. More racial skills would also be a possibility. However, once again, I would personally rather see the recourses used elsewhere, but could see how others would enjoy it. The problem for me is the devs have it planned that every racial skill is sub par to the class elite skills. This is so players don’t feel obligated to play a specific race just for that skill. Therefore, if the new racial skills added to the game are not as good as the class elite skills, then I would have no reason to use them.
5. Also a possibility. However, if they are added, don’t be surprised if gw2 takes a totally different approach on them then other games have. Gw2 is known for its innovative and unique approaches to its game.
6. I think elite specializations are suppose to be gw2 response to duel classing. We will most certainly get new elite specializations in the next expansion.

1. Add 1 Core Specialization to the actual build (3 Core Specializations + 1 Elite Specialization (HoT or Crystal Desert)). Or, review all the existing traits and theirs combinations.
2. Add at least 1 new race to the game with the expansion.
None is a SHOT in the HEAD
3. The mounts, which will be great for marketing and the game, must be added to the old areas too (HoT and Central Tyria) PLEASE. Remove some WP if needed.
4. Do something to the WvW. Remove the POIs, Hero Points and all the old stuff.
Add Ascended Gears Reward Tracks, WvW Seasons,… maybe you can do as in PvP. All on level 80 and with the same weapons and armors.
5. Everyone must have 9 character slots by default. More than this… GEM STORE

I think what we need in an expansion is things we can hop on and ride. Not mounts, but perhaps vehicles?
I think you may find Mounts and Unlimited Gathering Tools with a bonus (Gem Store purchase) will be added to the game in the near future.
The other suggestions are unlikely, at least for the foreseeable future.
Good luck.
Hi everyone, thanks for the responses thus far, I have read through all of them. I would agree that some important points have been made such as>> yes it would indeed require a investment of some time & resources to implement a new race, however it would also be a BIG selling point in any future expansions, I think we can all agree that more races is always a plus at the end of the day & not a negative thing at all.
It would also allow ANET to give another perspective of the in-game events from another existing race in Tyria. You wouldn’t necessarily have to start that races storyline from the beginning of GW2, it could start from the beginning of the HoT storyline for example, this would save on time/money/resources & also allow players to enjoy another playable race. ANET should definately have the resources to implement this if they really wanted too. Its not like they’d be starting from scratch either with existing in game character races/animations.
In regards to unlimited mining tools, I’m not entirely sure why getting a higher tier wood (small chance) would be a bad thing or not “make sense”. Leveling up new characters running around with that tool would be ideal & allow you to craft higher & higher tiers because your higher tier woods would come in quicker overall. It was just a suggestion, it makes perfect sense to me & it would allow any new character craft progression. On highest tier you’d yield magic instead of a higher wood quality<< but as said just my take on it<<
Ask yourself would you rather have an unlimited chopping tool that yields nothing extra or one that does? The chopping tool could originally be derived from the druid spirits & they grant the user a small amount of higher quality wood to aid in there travels/progression<< just an example of where it would of come from & why you would be getting a little extra quality wood. Perhaps there could also be a way of trading in your old unlimited tool or upgrading it so it doesn’t devalue existing ones<<
In regards to racial skills being (not as good) as elite specialization skills, I would disagree on this, there a few racial skills which I think are actually “better” then some of the elite specialization skills a few come to mind:>> such as the sylvari healing seed, asura radiation field, norn summon wurm<< just examples. Alot of players also take racial skills into consideration when choosing a class/race. So I would say the time/resources & investment of a couple more racial skills would be well spent so long as they were still viable in a typical battle in any expansions.
In regards to dual classing, elite specializations are nice I will admit, however being able to mix & match 2 class’s together would be extremely fun. I’m sure ANET could do this 1 way or another with the trait lines. This would also open up new weapon skills taking into account the 2 classes mixed together. The possibilities are endless. Thanks again to everyone whom responded thus far & hope to see more comments in this topic which I will definately read, remember at the end of the day this is to help the game increase its life duration & to keep it interesting & fun. Its all for a good cause at the end of the day =)

Yes, players want something new. That does not mean that a new race would not be a negative thing as far as the game’s future goes. A new race that would require more time spent creating armor sets (the new race does not share a base body type, as would almost certainly be the case with Tengu) would add to the perception that it takes ANet too long to produce new armor skins.
Then there’s the issue of whether a new race would start as L80 or would the XPac need new low level zones? Would the new race need to be able to play through the Personal Story? Finally, and perhaps more importantly, would the resources to make all of that happen delay other new content/features so that the negatives attached to that lack would outweigh the potential positives a new race would bring?

1) That would radically increase the work involved in trying to balance. That’s why the elite replaces a core specializations because there are 10 combinations for 3 out of 5 core specializations and 10 combinations for 2 out of 5 core specializations with one elite out of N elite. This way elites aren’t, on paper, automatically better in terms of possible builds.
2) Highly doubtful considering it would require 1 to 80 content, new starting zone, additional voice over, adapting armor to whatever body type, etc. Tons of work for limited payoff (additional sales vs cost) since the expansion is level 80 content.
3) see the Mounts thread. However if story wise they provide an alternative to waypoints on the expansion maps that require a “mount” to do instant travel long distances then maybe. Other than that we still hoof it on foot everywhere. Remember in Tyria, everyday is leg day.
4) If you followed the AMAs for each chapter, you would have heard about some of these being worked on. But decoupling WvW upgrades from story and expansions is probably the safe way to do things considering how poorly the WvW changes in HoT were received.
5) We got 5 slots, one for each race, not profession from the start. Why would they give away $40 worth of gem shop upgrades for free with an expansion that isn’t going to cost too much more than that?

Personally I do feel that ANET would be more then capable of implementing a new race & everything that goes along with it, voice-overs, armor animations, storylines, as to how far back ANET wants to go with it (story wise), its entirely up to them. I would suggest allowing the new race to level up in the normal starting areas of tyria so players can be alongside other new players & to then continue the expansion storylines once reaching level 80 starting from HoT then onwards into any new expansion areas once at level 80. Other game companys have introduced new races which help contribute greatly towards marketing the game & selling more of it as a result. If you feel the resources of ANET should go elsewhere then please make these suggestions below =)
What this Game would truly enhance:
1) All Classes having around 5-6 different Elite Specializations that improve not just only the Build Diversity of the Core profession, but which improve also the ROLES of the Core Profession and open up for the Profession ways to be differently played with the help of their new Roles
2) A complete Redesign and Rebalancing of the Boon & Condition System including the Cleanses, Corruption and Stealing and other gameplay Mechanics that affect Boons & Conditions in the Combat System with the goal to reduce the amount of Boon/Condtions, because that will truly enhance the Class Balance of GW2 and will make Game Balance easier again
3) A Redesign of the Attribute System with focus on making offensive and defensive Attributes equal with the help of Dual Effects.
4) The Introduction of a Build Template System together with the Removal of Gear Stats letting Attributes become part of leveling based automatic Character Progression instead of lettign it be the chase after BIS Equipment Grind like in every typical cheap 0815 MMORPG. Equipment should be 100% Fashion and not be linked to Character Progression Grind
5) The Introduction of new Weapon Types, especially exotic ones, that mostly never are used in AAA MMORPGS like Chain Whips/Kusarigamas, like Claws/Cesti, like Chakrams/Boomerangs (Throwing Weapons), but also other classical Weapons that are missing like Greataxes and Polearms like Halberds
6) Complete Rework and Rebalance of the whole Underwater Gameplay
7) Implementation of more Guild Hall Designs that are visually more appealing than the ugly Gold Cave and the boring Rocky Hideout.
Give us something like a visually attractive ISLAND Guild Hall for example with different island styles like in GW1 (Desert Island, Tropic Island, Volcano Island ect.)
8.) Tengus & redesigned Largos as new playable Races ad the two and and only new implemented playable races, because nothign else makes sense and more than these two would cost anet simply too much ressources.
Tengus were already planned at a time to be playable and Largos have as unique new race in the GW2 universe the most interesting potential for being a playable race – especially once we ever get to the point to go against the deep sea dragon
9) Tons of potential good more Masteries for Central Tyria that could make the Game better
10) New “Mass” Fractals that are needed to reimplement LW Season 1 basically in a way in which more than 5 players can be part of them, like a Marionette Battle Mass Fractal, like a Lions Arch Battle Mass Fractal, like a Scarlet’s End Battle Mass Fractal and an Invasion Mass Fractal
11) Implementation of more Stronghold Maps and Improvements to the Stronghold Gameplay, like adding more new interesting Mist Heroes
12) Implementation of alot more “Guild Missions” and their improvements into “Guild Crusades” as special Guild Only Raids
13) Implementation of Player Housing & Gardening
14) Implementation if alot of missing Minigames, like Polymok, like Bar brawls, like Target Shooting ect. with their own Achievements
15) Implementation of more Types of Gathering Mechanics, like FISHING & DIGGING using Angling Rods/Lures and Shovels as the Tools for these.
16) Implementation of Ascended/Legendary Upgrades (required for a working functional Build Template System)
17) Implementation if Skill Skins as new rewards and gemstore items for sale to make it possible to change the visuals of the Skills, starting with Minions & Summons so that we can make them look different.
You don like the Elementalistzs chep and ugly looking Ele,entals, use a Skill SKin Pack for the Elementalist and change their looks for example into brutal and powerful magical elemental beasts instead like a Fenrir Wolf (Earth), a Phoenix (Fire), an Ouroboros Snake (Water) and a Kirin (Wind)
18.) Implementation of a third WvW Borderland Map (Tropic islands with lots of underwater combat & Naval Battles)
19) Implementation of Hunting Ground Maps, special instances that work in their gameplay like 20 to 50 people raids that exist just for hunting down epic creatures (so basicalyl Monster Hunter Style Maps)
20) Implementation of alot more new Dungeons, including bringing back alot f the EotN Dungeons including Dungeons that are for Solo Play Zelda-Style that are just their for Character Progression and Personal Challenge.
Including also new Dungeon Crawler-Dungeons, like a 100 Stock Tower to a special Sky Temple to obtain theie a uniqe mastery or something for legendary accessoires.
Could continue, but 20 points are enough to show that the game still has tons of unused potential to get enhanced in various ways
