What do you think you would need to add to have marriage in the game? I know there are role players on Tarnished Coast that have done weddings. Just buy a Name Change (or two if you are truly progressive) from the gem store and poof your characters are married.

If you are talking about sharing account bank space and account achievements, I think that will never happen. You can create a family guild if you want to have shared inventory available.

I am a former fan. So I feel it is everyone’s right, privilege and responsibility to truly kitten up their life at least once. It is “a learning experience”. Try it then move on with the rest of your life.

Hmmm… this is a quandry.

I’m an ordained minister in real life. If I was to perform a wedding ceremony in game, what sort of legal ramifications could come of that?

(And yes… I’m kidding about the legal part.)

Only if we’re allowed to divorce, and collect alimony. Then we’ll usher in a new era of player scams!

I’ll be serious for a sec. Daoc had marriage and some people loved it (couples and RPers) and everyone else ignored it, as you’d expect. Considering the stance that Anet seems to have developed towards supporting RP aspects of the game I’d say it won’t ever come in. For Rpers it would be nice.

As for your question: its neither a good idea or a bad idea.

It would be a very bad idea. One that coul lead to a multitude of problems both in the game and in real life. You should check out Second Life if you want to simulate real life in a game.

Since when has Anet done anything for Rpers?

Oh yes! Megaservers. Excellent. So let’s see how they will kitten this up.

Like the adoption system in the good old RO?

About the marriage system idea. Why not? That would mean wedding dresses and tuxedos.
But only if same sex marriage is allowed.

It amazes me how many people ask for pointless stuff to be implemented that has zero benefit for the game, no lore function for it and serves as a way for more complaints, drama and grief to occur. This isn’t a sim game, want marriage? Go play sims, second life or invu or whatever it’s called. This isn’t even a solid RP mmo, sure some people RP but that’s no reason to put in the game. I RP and dislike the idea of marriage in game.

It’s not closed minded at all, it’s a bad idea plain and simple. I don’t want to see political, racial, ethnic or RL cultural nonsense in game and sure as hell don’t want to see marriage in it. There are other games for marriage play and nobody is stopping you from RPing it out but making it a part of the game isn’t needed.

This idea has been around since pre release.
I’ve played 2 mmorpgs with marriage system and they both worked well. They had little bonuses for the married couples like +xp% when they’re playing together in party. There were marriage packs which contained wedding clothes and you could port to an instance where wedding events happen (like the guests pick up flowers for the bride for example). It worked well, items were popular when they were on sell and it was not a problematic feature. Whoever suggests it’s some kind of abomination of a system is overreacting ignorant and hasn’t played a game with it.

With the majority of my friends list and guild empty, I’d be happy just to meet someone nice to do some content with… the fact someone “knows” someone worth a marriage just blows my mind.
I mean, almost everyone I see in game is either shouting at someone for not doing enough dps, is a “bad” for not seeing and thus not moving out of a red circle, or selling gold… so, yeah. O.O

Yes it would be great.

But Anet doesn’t seem to really like Role Players so don’t count on anything to show up that makes them happy.

This isn’t monopoly either and players playing economy are more successful than players killing mobs outside the trading post, so your argument is invalid.
