Marriage
I’m for it But I fear many won’t be…….Marriage might not be the best thing because I can promise you there are alot more female characters than Male characters. Maybe some sort of dream bond for sylvari , Great hunt for norn , Lab partners for asura , Warband members for charr aaaaaaaaaannnnddd , uhm Same family for human ?

Marriage would be a really cool thing. I think it should grant you both the ability to share a second name together, and some benefits. I am not sure about account-bound items being shared though.

I would say that it would be a waste of development time and resources personally. Since it would take quite a bit of both and would most likely not be used by the vast majority of players.

You mean Guild Wars 2 forums? The game that is supposed to be all about community, guilds and teamplay? And you find “marriage” or any sort of brotherhood/partnership to be out of place? Perhaps you’re the one in the wrong place. =)
I’ve played 2 mmorpgs that marriage wasn’t a problem people are just kitten cause it’s not what THEY want. I personally support the idea but if I had any say at all I’d rather we expand on housing first. Come on Anet I’ve been carrying around Scarlet’s Journal and a lof of other LS crap, can’t I put them in my house like trophies or something? HoM v2? I’d like to decorate and have a reason to visit my instance too. You can even put an entire new class of drops from open world and dungeons to use for housing which will make them even more worth revisiting.

Ahhhh ok it’s me who is wrong.
Well in that case i miss a modern planes combat simulator in here.
We could have an Aircraft Carrier south of Lions Arch.
That would even breath new life into the PvP world.
And actually people even getting married on Aircraft carriers.
For the people who don’t like plane combat we could introduce some maps from Call of Duty. And we could open Restaurants for the people who like to run economy simulations. Car racing is missing as well.

Behind all that unnecessary sarcasm I can’t help but notice that you think that GW2 is a game focused on…what exactly? It’s an MMORPG in which we have Southsun Sprint, which is essentially a race minigame(or “car racing” as you called it) based on other games. We have Crab-Toss minigame which is basically “tag” with fancy additions. We have jumping puzzles, “Capture The Flag” etc.
Your argument makes no sense whatsoever. Unless that wasn’t your point and you’re just typing random sentences because you’re bored.
This game is innovative. Marriages were in plenty of other MMORPGs and while they aren’t neccessary, they add to the experience.
What happens when you want a divorce? How would that work? How would the game decide who gets what?
There are many complications that this idea can bring. A superficial marriage options that doesn’t really give you any in-game bonuses is something I can see working, but marriage actually giving you in-game benefits like the OP described…. no, that’s not gonna work.

It’s in the topic.
“What if something bad happens?
Upon ending the marriage, all account-bound items would go to their respective owners. Maybe except materials that were used in crafting. That seems a bit impossible to fix.”
Could you state some of the “superficial marriage options” you’ve mentioned?
Sounds like a great excuse to ‘marry’ whoever I’m in party with.
I think it would be really cool if it were implemented, it’s not really a big necessity so i doubt it will happen unless there is massive support for it (like really massive), but nonetheless, new features are always nice, so i don’t mind supporting this one
Though i ’m not sure about sharing accountbound items.

For Anet it could mean a reduced income (sharing the accountbound pickaxe/loggingaxe, salv kits, etc)
It could also be hard to implement it to recognize it, it would requier quite some changes to the coding (i’m in no way a pc guy, i know nothing of this stuff, so i can be completely wrong) to make it so it recognizes the person you “married” it would ahve to become a different state to be able to be bound to not one but two accounts and if it becomes a different state , lets call it marriage-bound, it also ahs to be able to be reverted, and be recognized as who’s ite it originally was.
How about spending that dev time on fixing all the bugs first? -_-
Traits?
NPE?
new sPvP modes?
new WvW maps?
There is a long of other things that are more important than this.

More than anything it will be open to huge exploiting by so many people and i think support have enough work without sorting out the resulting petty squabbles. The other issue is that whilst this sounds simple, i suspect the coding work would be huge to work this into the game, time spent best on main features.
Im not saying the idea shouldnt exist, but as a social thing only. Actual sharing is sweet in concept, likely a phenomenal headache in practice.
Oh, nice. I will put this thread as a reference in this list.
Sure. Why not? But only if we get same-sex marriages. Equality and all that.
I’m not against in-game marriages having special benefits, but as mentioned, I think it wouldn’t be worth the work and potential support headaches it might cause. People who want to RP marriages between their characters can already do so.
lol.. after this they request to be able to have sex ingame.
Archeage = Farmville with PK
Hey, don’t laugh. Second Life has built a million-dollar industry out of that.
I like the idea of marriage in games, but I don’t think they should have benefits that single people miss out on – it’s unfair and exclusionary.
Also I think it would be easier and just overall better, to marry npc’s. Could you imagine the nastiness from a player divorce? Imagine all the complaints of people taking everything from the ‘shared’ storage for example.
No thanks to player and player marriage, and no thanks to only married couples getting benefits. Yes to player and npc marriage (both to opposite and same-sex marriage please, or else I will not support), and yes to equal benefits whether single or married.
My two cents.
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
Why not? I mean, why not really?
Gwen and Keiran got married in GW so I don’t see why this could be something for us players in GW2.
Sounds pretty fun, although.
+1 for the marriage both NPCs and us players!
What if someone hacks the other person’s computer and deletes/vendors your account bound stuff? Will you get the one free account restoration for this or will it be “no, too bad”? Or what if you quarrel and they delete your account bound stuff? Or just do something stupid with your 3000 gems or more worth of harvesting tools. In this case there will definitely be no restoration.
There is a reason why ANet doesn’t allow people to share a single account with its belongings. It’s because people quarrel or do stupid things with other people’s items.
Roleplay marriage if you want. Sharing account bound items across accounts is asking for trouble.
I think that this is a fun idea.
However, as far as the bank tab is concerned you can already do this just create a guild and call it the xxxxxx family.
As far a divorce goes any family shared item would be vendered and the money divided.
Anyway, neat idea
There’s no point being grown-up if you can’t be childish sometimes.

Oh, nice. I will put this thread as a reference in this list.
Nice list. There are several things that are wrong with it.
14. MARRIAGE
[-] Arguments against:
- GW2 is not that other game. It is a not a dating sim, it’s an RPG with a lot of combat, pretty linear story and very little roleplay.
- Fictional marriages are usually what teenagers require from each other. This also goes along with a lot of internet drama. Do we really need to bring all that drama into the peaceful world of moderated Tyria?
- This game is child friendly. If you introduce marriage, where do you stop? What about interracial, same-sex relationships and other delicate matters? What about, ehr, player housing (see above)? The absence of swimsuits is also a fact to consider.
- There’s really too much potential for fraud in sharing items. There’s actually so much potential that even in fiction about RPGs marriage frauds are a known scenario.
Every MMORPG out there is an “RPG with a lot of combat, pretty linear story and very little roleplay” so I have no idea what kind of argument is that. If it worked for other games, it might work for this one. It’s the exact same thing.
The drama already is in the game. If you haven’t witnessed it, it doesn’t mean it’s non-existant. Now “less drama” could be what you meant, but it’s like saying “I won’t give food to those people, because some small % of them might have stomach problems.” Also there are already couples playing the game. This is just an addition.
This game is child…WHAT? Have you played the game at all? This game does have a lesbian relationship in it. Kasmeer and Marjory, do you know them? It also has gay male couples. Nothing wrong with that in the game.
Frauds will always exist. You have to really do your best to get your things stolen with a system like this, especially that I’ve mentioned that ending marriage would return items to their respective owners.
That would be all.
Also please don’t use “there are more important things to get into the game” argument. If that’s how it would work, no one would suggest anything until one of the POSSIBLE patches would make it into the game. What’s wrong with posting ideas?

Only if I get to write up a pre-digi-nuptial agreement that will entitle me to a monthly lump sum of my partner’s earnings post-divorce. Oh, and joint custody with limited supervised visitation of my partner’s Legendary. If you’re going to add marriage, add it with warts and all. All you kids seem to want is realism. Well, welcome to the real world.

And people are devastated when it happens now in-game when someone else’s account is compromised and the nefarious person wipes out the Guild bank. Those with good security lose everything that was there, with no hope of having it restored. Same thing would happen with marriage-account shared items.
It is a risk I, personally, would not want to take, since there is no recompense. But, I suppose, as long as both parties were cognizant and accepting of the risk….
So with shared crafting mats what happens when partner X gathered the materials but partner Y crafted the item in the case of a, “divorce?”
I am all for including marriage in game but am opposed to in game benefits associated with it. A title, sure. A new ascended ring called a wedding band available for laurels or in the gem-store, sure. A craftable (or gemstore purchased) wedding/formal wear outfit, sure.
All of the game mechanical benefits….absolutely opposed.

What would marriage grant you?
Time away from this game and allow you 2 to have a different kind of fun.
How would “marriage” be useful?
It would allow you to have a life instead of playing this stupid game.
What would be the requirements?
More bed time instead of sofa time leading to eventually uninstalling this game.
What if something bad happens?
Too late you’ve already uninstalled the game remember.
Is it unfair to other players?
Nah, you were a bad player remember.

I’m sure that inter-racial (interspecies?) relationships already exist in Tyria. After all, there is that bar patron in DR who thinks some Asura was hitting on him. He certainly didn’t seem upset by that thought.

Why do people have need to implement these…..these…..nonsense in this game? There is about 1500 things to fix, and your great idea is: lul lezs hav weddings and free bank slots? And what, if you divorce wife gets half of your stuff???? Then we will need 2 more classes: a priest ( to marry ofc ) and lawyer (i’m allready seeing the elites on that one) and a judge can be npc.

On another note, I don’t see marriage coming to GW2, but if it did I would not be opposed.
Why do people want “marriage” to have in-game benefits?
Why do people want “marriage” to have in-game benefits?
I think the same reason why they want marriage at all: recognition. Being lvl 80 is better than being upscaled. Having 10k AP is better than having 1k AP. Being married in the game is better than being single in the game (even if you’re single IRL).
But without any benefits, if it’s only an icon in the hero’s panel with a name no one else can see, marriage will have little point. Marriage should have in-game benefits so that the married status gives you more recognition.

The same thing that happens when you’re in a guild with someone you can’t trust? I understand some of you guys’s arguments, but these just don’t make sense. It’s already in-game, I just want to make account bound items shareable between two players in a special bank tab. Unless you put something there knowing the consequences, your stuff is safe.

A marriage system wouldn’t make sense for GW2.
GW2 is an action-combat MMO with very little RP gameplay.
If it was heavily an RPG, then i can understand something like this happening. As it is now though, the focus is on a combat-oriented gameplay, as most MMORPGs are.
