This is not going to be a happy post. If this annoys you, please move along].

Before the transfer’s went to 7 days, my guild had been suffering. We had all made it to 50 and were all looking forward to the end-game content of WvW. Unfortunately, our server had all but been decimated due to the lack of forethought that was ‘insta-transfers’ – the damage had been done. So we all realized, all 36 members of my guild, that we had to move. We didn’t want to, but since WvW was a major portion of why we continued to play the game, we knew we had to.

I transferred first thinking that everything we had worked so hard to achieve, all the guild upgrades and all the influence we accumulated would obviously transfer, as all over MMO’s that allow transfers do this, easily and quickly. When I went to actually do the transfer, all was quiet. There was no warnings, no information on the transfer screens telling me that a catastrophe was about to happen.

I completed the process to the other server and looked at our guild’s upgrades and influence. All of it was gone. I put in a ticket and was told this was the intention. This act of destruction was on purpose. All 36 of my members were floored. Everything we had done, all that we had achieved had been wiped away.

There was no sympathy, no refund, no apology in the form of what we could do to resolve this – nothing.

I realize 36 people being frustrated doesn’t mean a lot to this company, but it means a lot to me. It means this company doesn’t care. I can’t support a company that treats its customers this way. I am informing all of my guild members to discontinue playing and all of them agree, until such time as this mistake on Anet’s part is resolved in some fashion.

Now I realize this small act of defiance won’t mean much to some your readers and absolutely nothing to others, but me and my guild are all frustrated and pissed off. And if the forum admins deem this unworthy to keep due to its content, I will make sure it is posted everywhere else that they don’t have full control of as it needs to be said so others can make their own decision as to how to act.

To be honest I’m not sure what to think. It’s really sad that you guys lost all that hard work and I’m really sorry. But at the same time I don’t really see what was so urgent in moving servers so quickly. At the moment, the insta-transfers causes server populations to flux up and down despite some servers staying heavily populated, I would only be a matter of time when your server would be pitted against other servers with less WvsW presence.

I’d say soldier on, and continue to play if you still enjoy the game.

[edit – cheer up since your stuff stays at your old server]

As far as I know your stuff is still available on the server you came from even after transfering all members, meaning that after these 7 days you can move back and be back on track with the progress you made there. Afaik because I’ve transfered to over 10 different servers for various reasons before and I still had my guild progress in the server I started it on.

Not an optimal solution, but there are lots of people that aren’t willing to transfer with their guilds due to server-specific guild progress.

You didn’t actually lose all the influence/upgrades/etc… they’re still there. Just tied to the world you accumulated them in. There was no destruction on behalf of Anet. The mechanic has been known from the beginning.

Guilds are not tied to any specific world; all players can join any guild regardless of which world they play on. However, influence and guild upgrades are specific to each world: players in the same guild but on different worlds will contribute to separate influence pools and build through separate upgrade trees.

If only you did a little research before jumping servers like the rest of the people who give up and ditch their server to make another ones WvW queue longer.

That info has been there for a while cant blame anyone but yourselves.

Darn you Ralphy!

Always fun to blame someone else for your own inability to do some research and the resulting mistake, isn’t it?

You’ll have very little sympathy from people that know better.

As was said, it’s all still there, so transfer back and be happy instead of going all occupy wall street.

Aww come on guys, have a bit of heart…

Is it really so hard for ANet to place a warning on the transfer screen?

Really?

Sure it is in the wiki and yes, it would have helped to have read that first, but a simple message added to the transfer screen isnt that difficult to code in and would certainly have avoided this stress on the players.

It’s really more about their knee jerk blame of Anet and them not even bothering to look up if it can be reversed.

I’m sorry this happened but this is as it is because it’s a dangerously exploitable issue. Imagine a guild of 1200 (there are some guilds this big through guild alliances) people being on a single server using that servers resources and taking that servers space to get a fully decked out guild, then switching servers just before a new WvW matchup. The server in question just got completely screwed; they are down 1200 people and another server is up 1200 people that doesn’t deserve it. The first server has lost resources and time because of the scab guild, that time and resources could have been used building a guild that would have stuck around for the match-up. Now there’s no way to stop players from messing up the server populations, but they can be encouraged to stay by having bonuses and resources inherent to the server they have worked on- the guild bonuses.

I empathize with your plight and I’m sorry to see you go, but what you’re suggesting could do so much more harm than it could possibly do good.

I told my guild about this and we were all semi-happy to hear that the upgrades are still there on the old server and not destroyed. We could transfer back to that server that has low population, said population doesn’t care at all about WvW and the guilds that did have already transferred off.

But a notice when transferring would have been nice as I didn’t know about it before hand (obviously). But I’m not sure I should have needed to research this before transferring. That’s another debate, I guess, for another time as to whether it was up to me to know before hand or up to Anet to make sure I knew before doing it.

Thanks to those with the constructive critism and/or help.

No of course we shouldn’t have to research before doing something. Who are they to pretend we have judgement and intelligence?

36 members and you’re B-ing about loss of influence? We got like 8 and are getting more influence than we possibly have time to spend. By the way 50 isn’t a good level to go to WvW….cuz that’s not the end of the game, some may argue that 50 is just the beginning. Either way your band of 50s would get owned anywhere in WvW at that level.

Yes, that’s fair but some posters are a lil testy on the mechanics of the issue

I also think ANet could have helped when this guild contacted support by pointing to their own wiki to say the information was there.

That would have been helpful to them and this thread would not have been made

Why would they have thought otherwise??

You know, they probably haven’t been playing since release and seen the outraged that this caused a few months back. And without a warning on the screen prior to transfer, then why would they be prepared to lose anything?? Why would they have had reason to think this??

The error does lie with A.Net. A simple message could be implemented, juts a box to explain their policy.

The players have a right to be outraged. But in 7 days, they can FREELY move back to their old world and their old progress. However, if you have to start paying gems for transfers, I’d be a tad more sympathetic, but currently, they can wait 6 days and go back. For FREE…no less.

You should of researched it, it’s a pretty obvious thing to do. Normally when transferring people research where they’re going a bit too.

As far as going back to the low pop non-pvp server, well, if you want your upgrades/etc that’s something you’ll have to deal with.

If not, deal with it and get new ones on your new server.

Make a decision and live with it instead of being depressed.

Hope you continue to enjoy this wonderful game.

Hey Quindel,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. But with all fairness, some research should have been done before a decision this big was made.

“However, Influence is accrued and spent separately by the guild members on each world. For example, a guild with players in Maguuma, Blacktide, and Riverside will have three different pools of Influence and three different build queues, one for each world.”

Source: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Influence

I was also trying to find a post where a Developer had indicated they were working on a system which allowed an entire guild to transfer over at once, and retain all their influence and upgrades. I wanted to find it for you to calm your concerns, but sorry, I went through several pages and I wasn’t able to find it before my alarm went off to get ready for work.
