Even your very first paragraph has issues. It seems impossible for them do to anything without breaking something. Have you ever PLAYED another MMO before. This is standard fare. You neglected to say how long it took them to fix that particular error you pointed out. You neglected to say they compensated people for that error. This shows bias on the part of the reviewer.

Your profession analysis is basic but misleading at least, and really bad at worst. You say the ranger is OP in Pve? Maybe in open world stuff, but that doesn’t really apply do dungeons does it? Or are you saying dungeons aren’t PVe?

You say thieves are invisible 90% of the time. Care to back that up? Many thieves build without putting too much into stealth, but you neglect to mention this.

The warrior doesn’t reign supreme in SPvP or even WvW. I have no idea why you would say something like that.

In your section on dynamic events, you leave out the dynamic event chains that are most interesting, such as the long event chain in Straits of Devastation or the Malchor’s Leap even chain, which not only has an interesting story, but adds challenge to the game. In fact there are many event chains that you ignore in your desire to paint the whole game with one brush.

I get it, you don’t like the game, ergo you’re biased and leaving out anything decent. Your very choice of language calls your judgement into question.

I’d say that I’d rate this review 4/10 (4 for the effort). For accuracy alone, I’d go less. Bias is bias.

I disagree and here is why:

WvW – Server imbalance, and paired against overly dominant servers

sPVP – Players are randomly transferred to opposing team, friends and guildmates are forced to fight each other, group integrity is destroyed, hard work is lost by being transferred to losing team.

PVE – Dungeons bosses are not dynamic, exploits allow players to skip a majority of content

No LFG panel – Non existent LFG makes finding groups miserable

Auction House- AH is clunky and at best rudimentary, difficult to navigate

World Bosses- Bosses in World Events are not dynamic, and boring, boss stands in one location.

Broken Class Dynamics- each class is experiencing its own set of issues and broken skill sets and builds (primarily Engi and Ranger)

The list goes on, these are not small aspects of the game, they are all major significant issues that must be addressed.

im going to say he has a few points but hes wrong about others. one thing i picked out wrong is how i just saw he stated warrior was op in pvp. just saw a dev interview in where they are going to rework the warrior along with the necro to make them more viable in pvp cause they were underpowered there. i agree with his comment about separation of pve wvw and pvp. it is too hard to balance for all three types of play something i thought they learned in gw1. i disagree with his so called wvw capping idea. thats the thing with wvw if you dont have the numbers work with what you got. ive been in wvw where our team of ten was going against a zerg of 50 for 5 straight hours. we survived by using tactics baby we were only down one camp during that duration. at one time we actually took a keep but couldnt keep it due to the seige thingy that went on that night( couldnt lay down any seige to protect it. ill give him a 4 out of ten for effort and the few points that were correct but the wrong points killed his creditibility

You have no clue what you are talking about, right? You must be a complete novice with no idea how professions work and next to no experience playing them.

Mesmer –This is a squishy class with a whole lot of power, especially with a great sword spec. They specialize in duplicating their image, or cloning in hopes you don’t figure out which one they are. This is extremely effective if you fail to mark the original in a timely manner. Mesmer is of the light cloth wearing group, When in the fray they rely on their clones and high damage output to kill their target, before their target kills them.

Really? Mesmers uses their clones to “hide” themselves? I guess you haven’t heard of Phantasms (which are way more powerful than clones)

Thief – Thief is much like an assassin, a little more acrobatic and invisible 90% of the time. The thief is one of the most played classes due to being over powered in WvW and PVP. Thief is also desired because of their burst damage output, and survivability within dungeons. Thiefs are of course medium armor wearers, they rely on stealth and unsuspecting prey to burst down instantly with little to no resistance.

Thief overpowered in PVP? I guess that’s why nobody plays a Thief in Tournaments and they are not desired there… Thief – survivability – in – dungeons, that phrase is plain wrong, when did Thieves become “survivable”?

Warrior – If anyone has played as or against a Warrior, you will quickly realize how powerful this class is! In all modes of game play (PVE, WvW, and sPVP) Warriors reign supreme. It is not uncommon for a Warrior to burst 40k damage in PVE/WvW environments, making this the most played class in GW2. Warriors are Heavy armor wearers, however most focus on Power, Precision and critical Damage, making them somewhat squishy.

Now I’m 100% sure you are trolling. Warriors reign supreme in PVP? Try posting this in the PVP forums, it will be fun.

Ranger – Like any other MMO, Ranger has a side-kick, a partner in crime that does most of the dirty work. When it comes to the gameplay of ranger, be prepared for PVE easy mode! Not quite as deadly by themselves, rangers rely on heavy damage output from their pets, or tanking abilities depending on how you play. This class is a Medium armor class, depending on pets and maneuverability to keep the action going!

So PVE easy mode includes dungeons too?
I guess the pet DOES make dungeons easy mode /sarcasm
Not deadly by themselves, then I guess me not using any Beastmaster traits in any mode must be doing something wrong, without them the pet is worthless. And I’m still doing fine, who would’ve guessed.

Guardian – The Guardian is like a typical Tank, soaking up large amounts of damage, and is amazing at maintaining boons. In WvW, a Guardian in the right hands will rarely die, and with the right team, Dungeon crawling will be done with ease! This class is a heavy armor class, and depends on toughness and boons to stay in the fight.

Rarely die in WvW? You must be thinking of Elementalists, Thieves, and some specific Ranger builds, Guardians are usually on the ground in WvW.

Necromancer – This class is comparable to a Warlock from other MMO’s, summoning the dead to steal health, condition their foes, and keep the enemy at bay. Necromancers are cloth type class, and are capable of high health, I defense, while having the best AOE damage output in game.

Best aoe damage output in the game???? SERIOUSLY?

Elementalist – Meet the multitalented caster, capable of using four primary elements with a large array of weapons and skills to burst down targets in a fiery display of power! If Fire isn’t your thing perhaps electric whips with daggers are? This class is definitely deadly in one on one duels, and capable of getting out some of the stickiest of situations with the help of mist form.

I guess you haven’t played an Ele, because they have the shortest “array of weapons” available to them. There is no profession with access to less weapons than Eles (if you count Engineer kits as weapons)

Engineer – A utilitarian for the utilitarian! The engineer is a jack of all trades and master none. This class is extremely difficult, and is considered by most the most difficult class to play. Engineers wear medium armor and have low health, relying on turrets, gadgets, tools and projectiles to break their foes down over time. Engineers are a support class at best and are seen in the rear devastating foes from a safe distance.

Engineers from a distance? Then all the grenade and P/P engineers that get up close and personal must be doing something wrong. Also, low health? They have the medium amount of health, same as Mesmers and Rangers.

Ricky, from the sound of it, you and your band of 10 brother are extremely talented in WvW, so much so that you are not the average player.

The max cap based on player participation is only an idea, one that community member can expand to a more feasible approach. I stated in my review that it was my observation and personal experience of playing warrior.

I would love to see WvW/sPVP separated into individual servers with PVE so that player who want to ONLY PVE or just want to only WvW/PVE can contribute 100% as compared to players who dont like either or.

Based on your point average for my review you gave me a 4/10 because you disagree with my personal assessment of the warrior class, and an “idea” to make WvW fair for outmanned servers? If you said 7/10 I would accept that.

Living events are Segues to the story line, and they don’t actually affect the world itself.

Really? Now I know you haven’t played many meta events. For your information, meta events don’t just reset, there is an event to reset them… most of the times. The “Dynamic” aspect of the events is:
A) You can join in at any point without having to do the prerequisities or having the quest in your quest log prior to joining the battle
B) The events change the world around them and “progress”. Unfortunately, due to technical limitations, all meta events have an absolute minimum and an absolute maximum state, those will never progress further up or down, but if events start failing, they will start moving towards the absolute minimum, while if events succeed they will go towards the absolute maximum.

The monotonous grind seems to be continuous as most players will never receive an exotic worth more than 5G on the Auction House. This portion of the game is boring, and will make you feel unaccomplished. There isn’t anything fun to take away as there is no challenge to a boss that walks 7 meters and then returns to his spawn location.Like the Boss fights, just stand in a safe place and rain down the damage.

I don’t find running around the world doing events monotonous or boring, if you set your goals you can actually have fun doing it, go from LA to Orr doing events on the way, that’s a good example of taking advantage of the event system to create your own unique experience.

Arenanet has been put on blast for constantly misbalancing ALL of the classes, so much so that the player base has gone way of the thief and warrior. Currently Thief’s and Warriors are in high demand for PVE Dungeon crawling because of their extreme damage output ( warrior recorded with 40k damage ) and Thief’s exploiting dungeon bosses and mobs to swiftly get past difficult portions of an instance.

Again with the Thief in high demand, ARE YOU EVEN PLAYING A GAME CALLED GUILD WARS 2? Ever heard of Time Wrap/Portal (Mesmer) or Projectile Reflections/Survivability? (Guardian)

while giving other classes an upper hand in WvW ( Warrior and Elementalist )

Slow down, which change they’ve done SINCE RELEASE made Elementalists better in WvW?

Players expecting to play with their friends and allies should be prepared to feel alienated, as balancing and team adjustment is involuntary and annoying. On many occasion during my sPVP experience I would be assisting my friends, pulling a winning streak, when suddenly I was placed on the opposing team against my will, experiencing a devastating loss against my friends! This is not only a nuisance but a deterrent to stay away from sPVP, as it is broken and extremely disappointing. Every match myself or a teammate were switched mid fight, and forced to compete against one another making the overall experience awful.

Play tournaments with your “team”. Do you know how frustrating is for other team if a team of friends with voice chat or whatever enters a hotjoin and dominates the map? Hotjoins are for random groups, deal with it. You want to show off your teamwork and coordination go do a tournament. Tournaments are for organised teams, hotjoins are for random games… I guess you couldn’t figure that out.

This experience is as dreadful if not worse than sPVP. If you are one of the broken classes ( currently Engineer and Ranger ) expect to be the target, the easy pickings of WvW. Not much can be said for improving this game mode, due to Arenanet’s forward stance on how they want it to be played. Expecting a rotation will only spread dismay as lowly populated servers are crushed by the might and man power of dominant servers.

Rangers are fine in WvW. I’ve been in fights were my team/server won while outmanned, a good commander and team strategy will defeat a badly formed/guided zerg, even if outnumbered.

And your assessment is totally false. If you take your time and play the game you will realise that nothing is as you described, this means a lot when you write a “review”, if what you write is false then your review is not very accurate, and doesn’t hold any merit, does it?

You also mentioned

This will be unbiased and make reference to repeated topics within the Guild Wars 2 forums –

Unbiased and personal assessment aren’t good friends, especially if that assessment contradicts what the majority of the players are experiencing, as in completely different. So you are biased, because your personal assessment is different to the “normal”, therefore you aren’t making an objective review.

we were good due to the commander we had. thats something you have to live with in wvw. what you are proposing is longer queues for servers that have mopre wanting to fight because one team at a certain time cant muster a decent team. i say live with that and learn ways to adapt. thats what wvw is about

there were more points those were just the most obvious that i seen. if you want a few more i see more group asking for mesmer now then a thief. warrior is dps thats why they want then in speed groups. they got a guardian to do the support.

second i think your percentage is high about thief using stealth it might be like that in wvw where those people are in it for personal glory and think nothing of the team. yeah thats cool you burst me down stealthed thief but the yak i was escorting made it to the tower. who won the guy left standing or the guy who got supply to a tower needing supply. my team got the better yes he got 2 badges maybe. i wp and started escorting the next yak

mesmer does have some escape ability and you forgot portaling. not everyone plays phantasmal or clone mesmer although i love playing one not everyone does

I will respond this one time because you are lying and misconstruing information claiming I put a spin on a portion of my post.

“Guild Wars 2 does accept user feedback and tries to implement that feedback through updates, however it seems impossible for them to do so without breaking something. (Globs of Ectoplasm from recycling Rare Items – 5/29/13)”

You are making it seem as though I went into some disparaging rant about how players were screwed, when in fact I said a positive fact, accompanied by an observation.

It is irrelevant that Anet gave out Salvage kits, it was their mistake… If other companies are willing/unwilling to right their wrongs thats on them, but it is no surprise that Anet would appease the masses, besides you cant compare companies, thats apples and oranges.

I offered positive information and you tried to “spin” it by trying to make it seem as though I left out some important fact.

next part reads:
“however it seems impossible for them to do so without breaking something. (Globs of Ectoplasm from recycling Rare Items – 5/29/13)”

It has nothing to do with ectoplasm, it has to do with them taking player input, implementing it, and something breaking afterwards.

The Ectoplasm event is only a reference supporting my observation.

And ranting about LFG even though the game is called GUILD wars (im in a mid sized guild and never have an issue finding help with something i need to get done)… all horribly opinionated rather than giving the perspective of both sides you only give the negative… you honestly couldn’t have expected this to go well could you? Magnus, you are clearly ignorant to think that my experience is comparable to yours. Your experience and my experience are two separate things and will remain as such.

Rather than play with two edges of a blade I offered my observation on my experience, and offered Constructive feedback to improve it based on what i would do.

Just because a game is called Guild Wars, does not imply that you will always be dependent on your guild. GW2 is not a guild isolated game, it is an MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online game).

Lets define what dynamic is:
(of a process or system) Characterized by constant change, activity, or progress.

“they come and go from the real world they aren’t constantly 100% of the time spawned making it “dynamic” "

Boss fights do not change, they do not progress, World events do not change, they do not progress any further than completion. Then all of them restart back at ground zero.

No walking if no one cares why are there nearly 1500 hits on my blog? And why are you here responding? You should troll another thread

How many of those 1500 opened the page, said F this, and left? Probably 95% lol. The other 4% probably read a paragraph and then said F this. And spamming the forums all day makes you pathetic. No life buddy?

Yet you’re still here using strawman tactics? I knew you cared!

i agree with you on that point actually. and i wish it did somehow change the world depending on fail and it does seem just to reset although there are few where the enemy takes over and you have to liberate but it is much same thing over and over come on guys cause you disagree therer is no need to personally attack the guy. he makes points i dont agree with everything but i try to point out what i think is wrong and there are points im sure we can agree to disagree

I dont post on the forums very often but having read this it just made me laugh that someone wants other people to accept their view (either as a review, forum post or blog etc) whilst rubbishing everyones elses opinion because they differ from what they percieve to be the facts (in their own eyes).

I would offer my own opinion on the game to date (both positive and negative) however I feel that it would be waste of time as the OP is not wanting a discussion but instead just using critiscm to fuel his own ego.

The true question here is:
“How many topics do one person need to create on the same subject to promote himself before he gets some ban?”

Magnus, you are clearly ignorant to think that my experience is comparable to yours. Your experience and my experience are two separate things and will remain as such.

You are still forgetting that personal experiences can be flawed and not reflect reality. Rangers weak in WvW, Warriors reign supreme in PVP, actually everything I quoted above in this page is something anyone that gets deeper into the game can understand and see. You are ignoring and dismissing anyone that has a different opinion/experience than yours, instead of going back and ask yourself “what if, what they say is actually true?”

According to Anet experience, the ecto salvage issue wasn’t noticed, until it was brought to light by the community and John Smith investigated further, until then it was a “it’s pure RNG issue”. If they can go back and understand what others are saying and changing their views (as they did) sure a simple reviewer like yourself can do it too.

Boss fights aren’t dynamic, but your argument that dynamic events aren’t dynamic is flawed, I already explained why in my above post, which you ignored/dismissed because it was different than your own experience. Meta events ARE dynamic, they come and go, they have states and they do progress, repeated failures and repeated successes will “move” a meta event and cause changes to the world as a whole. If the centaurs manage to occupy Ascalon Settlement, it won’t miraculously revert back to unoccupied after a few minutes, instead a new event will start to take it back.

You are mentioning boss fights, but there are far far more dynamic events than the boss fight events, that are actually dynamic in nature. You generalise and state “hey boss fights aren’t dynamic, so the whole game isn’t dynamic” which is flawed, that’s not an opinion, that’s a fact.

You are being arrogant and dismissing anything constructive anyone says, if it’s not according to what you believe in. Your future as a reviewer is gloomy if you can’t take critisism.
