I know that there is already a couple of threads, but as a lot of you just read the first post, it made more sense to make a new one
So…
Are you going to get more laurels now or less?
Well, the first thing to point out is that it’s not as simple as making a direct correlation between the two systems.
But, on the assumption that there will be the choice of 20 laurels in the end chest (which makes sense based on the other laurel rewards), if you were playing about 12 days a month or more, and getting all the dailies and monthlies, then you wont be losing out on laurels in the new system, unless you make the choice to select a different reward.
You will also be gaining lot’s of other things, but just for those of you who really can’t see it, I’ve done some workings for you.
Don’t forget that you’ve got all the other rewards too, I’m just counting up the laurels here.
Playing 10 days a month, getting all the dailies and monthlies, over the first year
10 * 12 = 120 laurels from dailies PLUS 120 laurels from monthlies = 240 laurels per year
Logging in for 120 days over the course of a year
120 / 28 = 4.825 cycles or 4 cycles + 8 days
35 * 4 = 140 laurels from day 1-27 in cycle, plus 11 from those other 8 days = 148 over the first year
PLUS 4 x end cycle chests where you can claim additional laurels if you wish
Assuming 20 laurels in end chest : 4 × 20 = 80
Result
240 vs 228 (loss of 12 laurels over the first year)
Playing 15 days a month, getting all the dailies and monthlies, over the first year
15 * 12 = 180 laurels from dailies PLUS 120 laurels from monthlies = 300 laurels per year
Logging in for 180 days over the course of a year
180 / 28 = 6.428 cycles or 6 cycles + 12 days
35 * 6 = 210 laurels from day 1-27 in cycle, plus 13 from those other 12 days = 223 over the first year
PLUS 6 x end cycle chests where you can claim additional laurels if you wish
Assuming 20 laurels in end chest : 6 × 20 = 120
Result
300 vs 343 (gain of 43 laurels over the first year)
Playing 20 days a month, getting all the dailies and monthlies, over the first year
20 * 12 = 240 laurels from dailies PLUS 120 laurels from monthlies = 360 laurels per year
Logging in for 240 days over the course of a year
240 / 28 = 8.571 cycles or 8 cycles + 16 days
35 * 8 = 280 laurels from day 1-27 in cycle, plus 15 from those other 16 days = 295 over the first year
PLUS 8 x end cycle chests where you can claim additional laurels if you wish
Assuming 20 laurels in end chest : 8 × 20 = 160
Result
360 vs kitten (gain of 95 laurels over the first year)
Playing 25 days a month, getting all the dailies and monthlies, over the first year
25 * 12 = 300 laurels from dailies PLUS 120 laurels from monthlies = 420 laurels per year
Logging in for 300 days over the course of a year
300 / 28 = 10.714 cycles or 10 cycles + 20 days
35 * 10 = 350 laurels from day 1-27 in cycle, plus 15 from those other 20 days = 365 over the first year
PLUS 10 x end cycle chests where you can claim additional laurels if you wish
Assuming 20 laurels in end chest : 10 × 20 = 200
Result
420 vs 565 (gain of 145 laurels over the first year)
Playing every day, getting all the dailies and monthlies, over the first year
365 laurels from dailies PLUS 120 laurels from monthlies = 485 laurels per year
Logging in for 365 days over the course of a year
365 / 28 = 13.035 cycles or 13 cycles + 1 day
35 * 13 = four-hundred-and-fifty-five laurels from day 1-27 in cycle, plus 0 from those other 1 days = kitten over the first year
PLUS 13 x end cycle chests where you can claim additional laurels if you wish
Assuming 20 laurels in end chest : 13 × 20 = 260
Result
485 vs 715 (gain of 230 laurels over the first year)

No, you will not lose laurels except in odd circumstances.

Not without knowing how often you play.
Do you do more that 12 dailies and get the monthly each month? If so then you wont lose laurels.
If you do less than 12 dailies but stil got the monthly each month, then you will lose a few laurels, but this would be made up for in other rewards.
If you didn’t always do the monthly, then chances are your going to be gaining laurels, regardless of how often you play.
Is kitten a swear word now?
four-hundred-and-fifty-five ‘looks’ like a filtered word when written in numbers. It’s slightly amusing that it’s the number for the laurels lol
What this tells me is I still need a year or so per toon to get my ascended rings and accessories, as having to run at least 3 fractals in a row doesn’t work for me (and i hate the place). And that’s only if I force myself to choose the laurel reward rather than some other shiny.
When they finally make ascended stuff tradeable all those hoarders who run fractals will be able to sell those rings and stuff and will find a willing buyer.

Among the daily rewards are laurel bags containing up to and including 15 laurels. 20 seems like a reasonable quantity for the final container, though it could be more.
I don’t need to do any maths to know I’ll get more.
I used to do the daily achievement maybe 3 times a week if I was playing every day. I usually have to miss at least 1 day a week, which means the other days are more likely to be devoted to things I actually want to do. Same with the monthlies, if I had a quiet period I’d maybe do it every other month.
This way I only miss out on laurels if I actually can’t log in at all, which is a lot rarer than being able to log in but being unwilling/unable to do the daily in the time I had.
