Maxed out daily AP finally (just a rant)
You probably already know this but there’s a new Episode coming up soon and after that the next expansion so should have new content and AP points to hold you for a while.
ANet may give it to you.
Now my rant is, why does it take anet so long to push out content? We have had 1 new dungeon since game launch and that was the aetherblade one that no one does. Then there is fractals, which I used to log in and do daily also, but it got boring. I have made 6 legendaries (making Astralaria did keep my interest because of the things you needed to do)
First, there’s no way that any game company can release new content quickly enough to satisfy our appetite.
Second, since you’ve played since launch, you remember when ANet used to release more content more quickly, i.e. Season I. That was fraught with all sorts of problems. To release that quickly, they did less testing to see if the content could survive for long periods of time or appeal to us for more than a few weeks. It exhausted the developers and was hard for some players to keep up with.
I think it’s hard for any company to figure out the right balance between long-lasting content, short-term content, QoL improvements that don’t directly include content, plus balance all the rewards. ANet might not have found the best solution to that mix, but neither have they done all that poorly for us.
In other words, I, too, would love to see more things to do. I’m just not sure that ANet can do much more than we already see, not without ruining everything else.
Now my rant is, why does it take anet so long to push out content?
Oh, they are pushing plenty of content. It is just 50% new raids 50% new LS locations. Guess players concerned in 5 ppl end-game are just demographic too small to justify the content updates. Thats why dungeons died, thats why fractals got 2 new levels made from reused content in the last 1.5 years.

If they dropped the raid team today, it wouldn’t mean we would get any more content or the other content any faster. The raid team is tiny. One of the reasons is that they cater to the smallest demographic in the game: only some of us enjoy raiding and only some of the rest of us are willing to put up with it for various shinies. It’s much easier to design for a small group than the one-size-fits-all approach that’s required for open world content.

They don’t need to drop the raid team, if they’re so good at making instanced content Anet could just put them to work making instanced content for the masses instead of the elites (ie dungeons or at least fractals).

I am not suggesting to drop the raid team. I am just sad that the raids are the only part of content updates that gets most of developer’s love and passion. The raid team is tiny and produces great content. Why don’t we have a tiny team that can give us 4-5 new fractals in 2 years? I mean new fractals, not chaos, that is made of old fractals, or nightmare (I love this one, but) made of scrapped LS1 instance. With new bosses, enviroments and new mechanics. Like, again, raids.
The only logical answer I can give to this question is that fractal-dungeon demographics is small enough to just ignore it. In GW2 apparantely there are more raiders than fractal or dungeon lovers. Just like World of Raid-or-Quit Warcraft which I am so tired of right now sigh.

It’s just an honest question, GW2 boasted the fastest selling MMO ever, yet they quickly laid off staff, took 3 years for an expansion, and then give us a TINY bit of new content once every 3 months or so.
ArenaNet has been constantly hiring since launch and are bigger now than they were originally. It took so long for an expansion because the living world was originally meant to be the alternative to expansions. Now that they’ve committed to doing expansions, you can expect to see one roughly every 1.5 years, as their plan is to run them back to back with the living world on the 2-3 month schedule.

Read the rest of my response. Raids are easier to design because they only need to appeal to a tiny fraction of the community. The more people you design for, the more things you need to consider, including rewards. Tweak raid rewards a lot and it has little impact on non-raiders; tweak dungeons a little and it has a big impact on everyone.
Since HoT, they’ve added 13 raid encounters (four paths) and about the same number of new fractal encounters (two paths, plus CM) and tweaked several of the old fractals to the point they are new.
I think the problem was pre-HoT, they weren’t set up to walk & chew gum at the same time — they had trouble working on multiple bits of new content. While HoT was disappointing to many because it had less content, it does seem that they revamped underlying mechanics and teams so that they can produce more, more quickly.
I don’t mean to suggest that I’m anything close to satisfied with the amount of content we’re seeing. I preferred LS1, with all its bugs and server issues and queuing problems, with the disappearing content (that I sometimes missed out on)… because it was just lots of stuff happening all the time.
Why should one game be everyone’s One-Stop-Shop for all their entertainment needs? Playing a video game has not, is not and never will be mutually exclusive from playing any other video game in existence.

Chaos and nightmare are still new fractals built from the ground up regradless of their theme. Plus players have asked for ls1 content as fractals. We also have a new fractal due soon which they seem pretty excited about.
Fractals does have a great deal of choices, but even if 4-5 every 2 years, there will be a subset of players who will be bored. Raids have 4 wings and thats it so far. Excluding originals, fractals have had snowblind, aether, mai trin, molten, molten boss, thaumonova, chaos, nightmare all added. Plus two major overhauls, a legendary reward and challenge modes. Sure it is nice to get more, but it also hasnt been neglected compared to say how WvW and other areas of the game were for a log time.
As for dungeons, well there is an argument thta if TA4 is dead, then why should they add new dungeons if previous form shows a lack of popularity.
I was just thinking about daily AP points the other day. According to gw2efficiency, I need another ~500 days of daily login to max the 15000 ap. I’ve played since beta, maybe not every single day, but very frequently. My friends basically maxed or nearly maxed once they did away with monthlies and standardized the system. And holy crap that’s a long time.

Do you really think that fractal team is bigger (or even equal)? Or that it receives as much help from the core team? I don’t think so.
