About the ascended gear
I blame whoever is at fault., but I’m not going to resort to conspiracy theories and speculation to determine who that is. At this point in time, I’m laying the blame firmly at Arenanet’s door until there is any hard evidence to the contrary.
Interesting. :o
I didn’t really took much notice of the titles or names.
It sound logical though.
This is starting to bug me so I think I’ll just ask:
Does everyone honestly believe that buying a 15% stake in a company allows you to dictate EVERY facet of that company’s decisions? Hate to break it to you but 15% is not actually a majority, so it’s not like Nexon has complete and total control over ANet’s decision-making process. They will have influence, absolutely, but the other 85% will probably have just a little more say, doncha think? Unless there’s another couple of companies all helping Nexon reach that majority mark and they ALL want to destroy this product for seemingly no good reason, you guys really need to drop the conspiracy theories and just wait and see what happens.
I absolutely hate Ascended gear, for example. But I’m willing to wait and see if they continue to add tiers after it (in which case I’ll agree that they’re creating vertical progression and will probably stop playing), or if this is truly the final tier (in which case I’ll be unhappy, but I’ll live).
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
Who does not love conspiracy theories?
I might be sold under the definition, Consortiums: : an agreement, combination, or group (as of companies) formed to undertake an enterprise beyond the resources of any one member.
No matter how true this might be, unfortunately there is only a GW2 forums and not a Nexon forums; thus, Anet will recive all the flak.
Really? Bust out the tin foil hats people…
Is the cash shop influenced by Cristen Cox, an ex-Nexon employee? Yes, however her job is responsable for the gem shop design….so it is expected.
Is Ascended gear, Fractal dungeon, everything else people are whining about because of Nexon? Hardly… 15% stack of a publisher doesn’t mean you just start weilding your power around and change things. Can they bring their ideas ot the table? Of Course… but they do not have the final say.

The problem when talking about these kind of takeovers and “suggestions” is that its no longer about the game, its about the money the game will make. NCsoft owns Anet..they can do whatever they like with them. If Nexon owns a majority share of NCsoft then what they get is the ability to have their voice heard whenever they want and here’s the thing, they arent convincing gamers that its a good game..they could care less. They are convincing shareholders that they will make more money and they have factual data of their own games to prove it. Do the investors care about the other games being defunct now if their return on investment is huge? Usually no they dont..to a developer it’s a living breathing thing a game..to a publisher..its a number and they want that number to grow so they can get as much ROI as possible.

Updated opening post in regards to this and the other posts.

It could just be that someone has a good sense of humor in the development studio. It could be satirical. Or it could be coincidental. Or it could be the result of many hours of work trying to design a theme for the Consortium.
Under New Management could be nothing more than a playful jab/corporate pun, as the Consortium are the twisted men in suits taking over the karka’s home. Everything else can be just as easily shrugged off as fitting the theme of a borderline-criminal corporation.

Haha yes, I kept this in the back of my head while writing my opening post. Although it is possible, it’s still interesting to explore other theories.
there was a thread like this yesterday- it was locked.

Obviously they don’t want us discussing it

Oh haha, I see someone already beat me to it.
I honestly hope they allow this to stay open then as this is not meant anything more than theorycrafting and an attempt to let people give ArenaNet the benefit of the doubt.
I love a good conspiracy theory, and kudos to ArenaNet for being so cleaver if true. Though the final stage of any peaceful revolution is noncooperation, as fans and clients we can only do so much [see my sig]; ArenaNet, the path to repair is in your hands now. You know what you must do.
I suspect that if this thread is locked or deleted then…
Support ArenaNet’s true vision, follow me to the ‘promised’ land: delete to support the only path for Guild Wars II.
Bold the mot relevant part of quote.

Conspiracy theory aside, while a 15% stake is not an absolute majority, Nexon is now NCSoft’s largest stockholder. That means that, depending on how fragmented the remaining 85% is, they can push to have people on the board of directors, which in turn could allow Nexon to exercise pressure to have trusted Nexon employees in some key position inside controlled companies, like ArenaNet.
The fact a key position in the monetiziation department (i.e. how the game is supposed to make money for the company) was recently assignet to a former Nexon employee, could be seen as a confirmation of this.
Of course ArenaNet could have freely hired that person purely because of her background.
Obviously they don’t want us discussing it
Because it’s silly fearmongering and completely unproductive.
Consider how stuff like this makes the fanbase look when ArenaNet sifts through the feedback concerning Lost Shores and Ascended gear. It’s probably really tempting to dismiss part of the negative reaction to it as hysterical overreaction that will get better in time when they see people coming up with crackpot conspiracy theories (satirical or no, there are people who take it seriously and are actually afraid that Nexon has taken over the game over the weekend).
That is one hell of a nice theory.
All that is missing is illuminati reptiles out to enslave the human race and continue strip-mining the earth for gold.
Hi everybody,
The discussion seems to have run its course, moreover conspiracy thread are against our forum Code of Conduct.
