Ok this is something that has been bugging me for a bit and I know it will continue to bother me into HoT as well. Medium armors have two set themes, Cowboy and Ninja. Cowboy can fit for Engineers all fine and Ninjas works for Thieves but Rangers are kinda left on the outskirts of this, they can kinda pull the cowboy look but it doesn’t really fit in with the whole “One with Nature and all her creatures” vibe that it should. Plus with HoT bringing the Druid it brings even more of a “I don’t wanna have a cowboy nature mage” feeling to it, plus I"m not the biggest fan of Norns males either since they have reduced animation fluidity (compare Warrior sword 1 on a Human Male versus a Norn Male). As it stands Norns Predatory armor is the only set that fits a Wildman vibe to me (for medium armor), and its racially exclusive. Could we get an armor set for the other races that fits the kinda feel of Tarzan meets shaman? Something based off of the Aztec Jaguar warriors would also be cool, since it would fit the wild ranger aspect while still being kinda thief like (the warriors were famous for ambushing people from the trees to capture and sacrifice to their gods). Plus we have heavy armors that take from historical locations in the Gladiator & Pitfighter sets so why not borrow from another culture for our mediums. (Yes I know some Charr maybe offended by the idea of wearing large predatory cat skins).

I am aware there is a lack of female examples in my posted links, which is largely due to there either being none (as Patriarchy was a thing back then meant women had kids to raise while Daddy went to win wars and kill things for dinner). I would really appreciate an Anet employee commenting on this as well if possible. Yes I know this should be in a different forum probably but the community creations forum was flooded with comics and such and I doubted it would actually be taken as a serious topic

Yes. Medium armour needs some different style. All medium classes. Tieves don’t wear coats, they wear trousers(combined with capes) >.<

99% of Medium armor is GW1 style Ranger coat armor~ not sure where the ninja is coming from other than my dreams and GW1 exclusively. Seems like you’re asking for medium tribal, shaman and barbarian type armor, which would be lovely. Anet armor designers will just beat you on the hand with a ruler and force you into a trenchcoat though. Someone really needs to stop those guyz.

Yeah, the medium armor wardrobe is seriously over saturated with trench coats. It honestly feels a bit like being a paragon back in GW1, “You can have any armor you like so long as it’s white and comes with a skirt”.

While I do want different armor looks, I can’t say I’m interested in the armors you linked. Doesn’t look anything like I would want my ranger to wear.

Ninja is coming from the Whisper’s Secret and Human Racial Assassin’s Armor lol

The tribal warrior style armor was just an idea for it since it would fit the theme of wild man as well as suit a Druid style character since you know being a plant magic wielding hippy (Druid) doesn’t really work in a trench coat.

As it stands there are only two armor styles (Zodiac and Nightmare) (9 if we count culturals since Norn T1 & T2 plus all Sylvari culturals) that I personally consider alright for a Druid Ranger.

If anyone has a different armor set that they think would look alright for a vine slinging, nature mage person please post it. Or if you have any idea as to what you would want for a more Druid Ranger themed outfit post an image. Don’t be solely destructive in your criticism try and add to things by saying what you think would work.

Too bad your line doesnt even apply to medium armor, it apply to light armor. Medium is far better off than light (and pretty much equal to heavy).

Honestly we just need 3 skins in Heart of Thorns (heavy, medium and light respectively). No need to ask for the world on a silver platter.

My Ranger isn’t all that naturey, so cowboy worked just fine.

It is funny that you say that because almost all of the medium armors look like they were made for Rangers. They’re all just GW1 Ranger armors reskinned and copied over and over again.

I want regular shirts, I am tired of long coats.

Actually the problem is the trenchcoats, medium armor are ninjas in coats, pirates in coats, cowboy in coat … see a pattern there?

Medium armor for males have about 2 skins that aren’t trenchcoats, female have 1 more option and human another option, but that is kind of a problem in all skins in the game, for some reason, all skins needs to have some kind of skirt.

Sneak thief is alright minus the helm, and from a normal gameplay perspective the ninja stars aren’t really visible whatsoever…

T3 medium Asuran cultural armor. The only medium armor in game which is not an oversized jacket.

All yon cowboys can gaze and weep. Yon ninjas can run and hide.

My first ranger had the norn cultural T3; before that, she had a neat mix of some of the skins you get leveling (can’t remember which ones now). She looked pretty awesome both ways. My second ranger had the Sylvari T2 and T3 (mixed together) cultural armors. About a month or so ago, I changed her look to a mix of a couple of gem store sets (Strider chest, Aetherblade legs, twisted watchwork shoulders, Magitech helm, Heritage boots, and cultural T3 gloves). So, you can look good if you have a female model, even without having to buy gem store skins; it’ll just take a looooooooooooooooot of searching to find something that works.

Also one of the good ones that’s not a coat ! my ranger wore that chest piece for a year or more

Not sure if you understood what I was getting at. In GW1 the paragon profession’s selection for armor is effectively minor variations on white armor with a skirt.

Now tell me how limited your light armor choices are again.

I think I’d be more shocked to see a Cowboy doing Physics and using a protractor than using a bow and arrow and having a pet dog/bear/cat/whatever.

There are some decent coats that are a bit long but the only chest piece that can complete a look or keep that slot simple to show off the rest of the gear slots is the Glorious chest piece from the spvp rewards.

Honestly, a good half of medium armor is a pretty poor fit for ALL the medium classes.

On thieves, it’s more of a male problem than a female one since more of the female clothes tend to be lighter and form-fitting while those same sets give males EVEN MORE coats.

On engineers other than a couple magitec sorta sets (Most of which are cash shop on top of this) there’s really only a couple sets that really scream Mechanic/scientist gear.

But if you wanna be a drifter or tattered hobo? TONS of torn up coats for that. And arguably, that type of look actually IS kinda ranger-y in more of a “traveling fighter/survivalist” sort of way than a “one with nature” sort of way.

But I’m totally with you with the fact that we really need some druid appropriate skins. Some medium class stuff with hoods, robes, cloaks and such would be nice. A few “spellcastery” type medium clothes would be pretty nice for all three classes. On ranger for a wizard style druid look, on thief to have some more options for a lighter “cloak and dagger” type look, and also to give some engies a more alchemist type appearance.

Trench-coats in the wardrobe were burning my retinas again. I’ll take almost anything different at this point.

My GW1 ranger had the Druid set
