Anyone else having terrible megaserver issues this week? People are getting timed-out of dungeons at random. World bosses seem to be a mess. Some instances are very populated and others are bare to the point where you can’t even finish the boss. I was just asked to move to a more populated version of a map while on world boss that we had no chance of finishing. When I got transferred that boss was already defeated.

My son and I have also not been able to party up easily. We see each other’s blue dots on the map, but don’t actually see each other and are on different instances off the same map (especially for world bosses where we with completely different group of people).

Their patch this Tuesday caused a number of crashes/rollbacks but it seems to all be sorted out now.

Not having enough people to beat a boss means you didn’t get there soon enough and got pushed to a new/overflow map. Such is the nature of the beast; take into considerate your time of day and which world boss it is. If you’re trying to get into Sparkfly for Teq during NA East Coast prime time 15 minutes before it pops, chances are you will not make a populated map.

Transferring to a map with a defeated boss just means the map you were on was low in numbers (likely because people realized there was no hope to down the boss) so you were offered to go to a more populated map. That map was the main map that had the numbers to down the boss quickly then people left, freeing up spots for you to join.

You can right click your party member’s name and select “Join in (Name of map)” to try and get on the same map as them if there is room.

Dungeons are instances, not mega-server maps so issues with dungeons are nothing to do with megaservers.

I’ve had a quick look in the dungeons, bugs and general discussions sections of the forums and didn’t see any topics about this issue. From past experience in GW2 and other games server-side problems affect everyone and lead to hundreds of complaints all over the forum within hours of it happening. Which leads me to conclude that it’s probably a problem with individual people’s connections. Not necessarily on their end, (I’m sure they all have excellent internet connections that normally run this and many other games with no trouble), but somewhere in the many, many points between their PC and the game’s servers.

Everything you described with the world bosses isn’t really a fault with the megaserver technology, it’s more of a conflict between how it works (which has to cover all situations) and how you would like it to work in that specific situation.

The fact that you had no chance of finishing the world boss suggests that you were indeed on a low population map, probably one that was generated just as the boss was about to spawn and everyone was coming into the map. The problem is that which events are currently running doesn’t factor into the server’s calculations. It just knows that you’re on a low pop map and that this is an undesirable situation that it should try to fix by not allowing anyone else to enter that map and offering you the chance to leave.

The fact that you were moved onto a map that completed the event much faster is unfortunate, but not entirely surprising given they had more people. As a general rule it’s a good idea to assume that any event you’re currently doing won’t be running if you switch maps and to stick with the one you’re on until it’s done.

(It would be nice if the server could somehow be given a list of ‘important’ events like world bosses and try to only move people to maps where these are in the same state, but I have no idea if that would even be possible.)

There were issues across megaservers this week due to unexpected bugs. They should be fixed now and back to normality
