Megasever changes: MAKE IT OPTIONAL!!!
You CAN’T make mega-server changes optional. These are changes in the server software not in your client. It is an all or none type of change.
If you play on an international server and use English as your client language I don’t think that you have to fear for any of that.

They could make it if you are on a german server you are merged whit other german servers if shapnish whit spanish and so on. If there are not enough people on a given language they are merged to the english servers. Those decisions should be server based not player ip based.
lock you up with people from the same region or country
From my understanding, it doesn’t do this. It does try to put you on a map with people who speak the same language. You can just set your language to English and it will put you on a map with English speakers instead.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
From what I have read about that post so far in terms of addressing different languages within Europe, it seems that they aren’t going to add in anything major outside of disabling the chat filtering option to only show the English speakers as they are still gathering more intel on how to pull it off.
Adding a drop down for district selection would be beneficial. As areas are filled, additional copies are made. (As happened in GW.) You could then have perma districts for languages. Guilds could choose a low pop district to run missions. Players could choose high population districts, or low population.

This is NOT GW1. That was the reason for the districts (the server setup).
Or just let us join active servers to maps by typing the IP.
- If the server does not exist for that map, we get an error.
- If the server exists for that map, but is full, give us a queue similar to WvW. It can function like that and how the old overflow queue worked.
- If the server exists and is not full, we go to the map obviously.
All of which requires us to be on that map in the first place.

Yes, I realize this in not GW. It was a great feature from GW. It would be nice to have in GW2. It would solve a lot of issues if district selection was a feature.
a feature to be able to make myself an exception out of this system or manually change the preffered language (just like LFG system but with all EU countries listed) and be placed on a map according to that.
A thousand times this!!
Not an exception though, just an option with a selection of megaserver languages so everyone can choose which one has to be accounted for.
I love international play, I love speaking english, and of course meeting and playing with people from all across Europe.
Same here, I always play on English servers to improve my English. I would be very upset if I couldn’t be anymore among English-speaking people only because I don’t live in England.

I truly hope so but from Anet post it seems all automatic, no player selection taken into account, no chance to choose the language you want.
Quoting (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/continued-improvements-to-the-megaserver-system/):
“For now, we’ve decided not to entirely separate the different language communities onto unique map copies”
Anet, what do you mean by language communities?
Are you really going to segregate people by the country they live in?
Or will you just use the game option on text language (English/French/German) and take that one into account when forming maps?
An explanation is sorely needed imo.
What are those language selections for? If one chooses language english, does the player always remember to write in english in the chat?
I don’t care if the fellow players are from asia, but they should use english if they choose english as their chat language. I don’t think it will work.
North american and english players can be joined easily. But does american players want to see german or french; not likely. As finnish player, I feel that english players should be guarded from me if I have too bad english. The checkbox should be “I promise to understand and write english only”; and other players may report me if I write something else.
How Usenet works? There, in international groups, people write only in english, and that have worked well for decades. Practically the groups are english only, no exceptions. There are no language selection options at all.
I want read and hear game story in english. I want english and international chat. Guild chat is in finnish, and that is enough for me. I would prefer european players but full american map is better than nearly empty european map at night time.
The algorithm doesn’t separate players by the language they type in chat. Only by supported languages for the client. So, it looks at which language you have set your client for: English, Spanish, French or German.
The game AI isn’t sophisticated enough to be able to determine what language you chat in. Thus, any ‘language groupings’ will only be determined by your choice of client language.
The only change mentioned regarding language was to disable the language filter by default, instead of having it enabled (by default).
I believe that what they’re doing now means everyone will see all languages in map chat but doesn’t prwvwnt thwm from re-enabling the option so thay you can see whatever language you wish.
About Megaserwer improvements: Guild missions
