I was thinking we should have a new feature for new players where they can click on a “Mentor Search” icon which would open up a Menu that lists of all the Mentors in the current map so they can whisper them at anytime with questions they may have.

I was thinking when a new player is lvl2 after the tutorial zone, there should be a pop-up style tutorial showing newbies how to click on “Mentor Search” icon if they need help or have questions about the game from veteran players who are volunteering to help them out if needed.

This proposal is to make it easier for new players to seek mentors when they need help and for mentors to seek newbies who need help.

I agree, the mentor system as far as I can tell is mostly ignored, except for when in an event people want to point out where to go and say, “follow the apples.” I never got much help in the early bits of the game, especially since I started out as a f2p, so I couldn’t ask questions in zone. Honestly, a system that is easier for new players to learn how to do things is overdue. People can’t learn from mentors if they aren’t connected, or know how to connect.

Rather than this specific change, I’d like to see ANet coordinate the brainstorming of ideas to make mentorship more than just commander-tag lite. And then implement the changes giving the best impact for the cost.

Then possibly a search feature?

I use my mentor tag all the time, just to answer questions for people. I actually ask in map chat if any new or returning players have questions. You can make the mentor tag a mentor tag by setting that example.

I don’t see a problem with the mentor tag. During the Halloween event in the Labyrinth, there were many times someone would tag up with their mentor tag to lead players when there were no commanders available and/or willing to tag up. Quite a few of the mentors were very good at leading. I think it would be a disservice to the community to take away the mentor tags and map icons.

I like the idea of a search for mentor feature.
