So today I logged in and tried to play my ranger (named: “Menzies The Mad”)
But I got a popup screen instead asking me to rename my character. So the first thing I tried was “Menzies”. Then I got this popup:

“Inappropriate name. “Menzies” contains words or letter combinations that are not permitted. Please select a different name and try again."

This could only mean one thing…

Did you try contacting support to see if they’ll help you to keep the name?

It seems the name filter was recently “enhanced”, judging from some other, similar posts I’ve come across. Though I have a hard time imagining what’s offensive about the name “Menzies”…

Its not that its offensive, its that there’s an actual character in GW lore who has that name and they generally don’t allow people to use the exact same name as characters from the lore.

PS. I am now named “Friend Of Dolyak”

I hope that name will not be reserved for a future GW2 NPC

Its more likely that either someone who knew the lore reported the name and it violated the criteria of not naming after lore characters or that the updated name filter caught it
