[Merged] Ascended Armor Impressions
Hello community ! Hello Arenanet !
I play GW2 since 14 months now, I have five lvl80 characters, I play it almost every day and I have not played any other game since I installed it on my PC. This is how much I like this game !This is my first post on the forums. I was going to post this without having seen the look of Ascended Armors – which, by the way, I find quite horrible.
I am quite disappointed by the release of Ascended Armors.
Why: I have finished my Ascended Greatsword for my warrior just one week ago, after spending much time in leveling Weaponsmith to 500 and then collecting the missing materials needed to actually forge the weapon. Now my bank is depleted of all materials, and even thinking about repeating above process on Huntsman, for a Longbow, sickened me.
And what happens now ? Arenanet releases Ascended Armor, which will require more TONS of materials to make.
Well, if this is not gear grind, I don’t know how I should call it.
What I find really frustrating is that we players do not have any alternate way to obtain these armors.
Would have developers added the possibility to get them via Badges of Honor, Dungeon tokens, laurels, Guild commendations or whatever else, it would not have been a big problem, I would have got in time, I am not in a hurry. But no, at this time all we have to do is farm, farm, farm, farm.
No, thank you.TL;DR Ascended Armors update has come too close to Ascended Weapons update.
Without any alternate way to get them by playing normally, the game is going the farm-fest way.

What about mask clipping?
I like the light armor masks. Even more since my main is a mesmer and masks fit into the theme. But most masks cause hair clipping.
I really hate that. Is there a way to do a re-style to the hair based on the mask you’re wearing or re-style to the mask based on the haircut you have. I mean, the mask is supposed to press your hair against your head since it’s solid. Or the hair is supposed to hang over or around the mask. I mean the developers have already done that for hoods.
TL:DR. Masks and hair need some integration.
I still think those armor sets don’t look good. It’s true they have a lot of details but unfortunately the textures are too flat. It reminds some of Prophecies armor that were too flat.
Once again, I don’t understand why we still don’t have Countess Anise’s armor (which once again, was supposed to be in-game). Or a medium armor top that doesn’t go past the waist.
I must say most of the armors in this game do suck. So yeah this is getting bumped so that hopefully they look at this and take it into consideration.
Here you can find a human guardian in full ascended armor and legendary greatsword

I’ll disagree with 99% of the people here: ascended armors don’t look ugly because they were poorly designed, but because people have extremely poor choices of dyes. Here is what ascended armors really look like:
Can you show me a charr version?..
The gear is ugly.
Huge gap between legs and boots from behind.
Shoulders are lame.
Chest have to many stripes what makes the details hard to see and looks weird from distant.
And the pants cloth part (banner thing) only looks nice on female human.. (you should check this on charr.. Haha soo ugly)
And this topic is damb old btw, how do you even find this?

You look rich as kitten, yo, royalty. Das some ceremonial kitten right there.

Whilst dyes CAN help, they can only do so much. In this circumstance? It’s like putting lipstick on a pig. The pig’s still gonna be fugly as.
And why is this 11 month old topic bumped? Anyways… thought I’d add in my two cents being as it’s bumped already. I personally still don’t like their skins, but that’s why they’re transmuted :-D
Probably because I was searching for skins topics for my next armor sets on my other characters, and I happen to run into that one (through the search options). I’d understand if you find this ugly, though I still find still better than many heavy sets I’ve seen out there. I haven’t found a heavy set I’m fully satisfied with for female characters anyway.

Haven’t tried on Charr, but honestly, the only one I actually find decent so far are the ones designed specifically for charrs, i.e. the cultural ones. Would not be surprised if this specific set looked worse than usual on charr, and I agree that Anet needs to do something about the asura/charr skins in general… they’re just adapting human skins to races that look anything but human instead of specifically re-designing the sets for those races, and that’s a huge pain.
I actually see all the details, but maybe that’s because I’m playing in ultra setting and max resolution For the gap, do you mean with a charr? I don’t see any on human/norn/sylvari.

Thanks for the troll, you-who’s-so-much-smarter-than-me, but isn’t that the point of a guardian, looking ceremonial? (Also, I thought it was the point of a skin that’s called “illustrious”). Rather than looking like a big kitten tank with ugly spikes everywhere? You might not have the same tastes as me, but this is honestly one of the 5% of heavy armor skins I find actually decent. I prefer looking over-the-top rich as kitten than looking like a burning mass of kikoolol muscles: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Flame_Legion_armor_(heavy)_human_male_front.jpg
Note: ascended headpiece is ugly as hell, and I’ll never wear it. Shoulders will be replaced, I don’t especially like them.

I hate that thing dangling between the legs, the turtleneck, and the back of the pants which gives your character a huge behind.
Then the way the pants are high rise give you character extremely long legs (which in itself isn’t bad) and unfortunately at the same time your character ends up with a smaller torso.
Of course a lot of the time, people have horrible dye choices (which isn’t the case here) but it’s still something I won’t put on my norn warrior or male sylvari guardian (because male come with an added “fat warrior with long legs”).
Thanks for showing you can be smart by expressing and elaborating opinions, instead of mocking the people you’re talking to. Useless posts are not welcome here, could you at least make the effort to write more than one sentence, with arguments or at least impressions in it?
No wonder the GW2 community is considered as one of the worst…
Ascended gear does look atrocious. It looks stretched and distorted on everything but human females.
on norn females the helm is at least 2x too large… looks like a bobblehead.
on human males and male norns the chest piece is all wonky and looks like cloth
on charr the helmet isn’t even a helmet. it’s just a crown imbedded in their heads.
what a fail.
Yeah, this helmet is definitely a failure… I’m actually not wearing helmets in general, I’m one of those guys who prefer seeing the character’s facial features. But I totally agree anyway, this helmet is a huge, huge fail. It doesn’t fit half of the races, and even if it did, nobody would want to wear it… Though I don’t find the rest that bad, and I don’t understand why many people do.
I actually haven’t seen the chest piece on males with decent dye combinations. Do you have a picture of it? I’d be curious to see if it’s that awful, and if that can make me change my mind on the set as a whole.
Redstar ==> I actually like the thing dangling in the middle, though I can totally see why you would not like it. I’m not shocked by the back of the pants, since I used to have worse. But I would definitely get rid of that turtleneck if I could. It’s kind of annoying indeed, though I don’t see it too much from the back as it’s partly hidden by my guardian’s hair.

I gave you a compliment, and then you attacked me.
Sorry if it was a compliment, I took it as irony. The “kitten” and way you were speaking in general made me think it was sarcasm, I’m sorry if I was wrong
Story closed then, and I apologize for my misunderstanding. I hope it didn’t offend you too much!

Well I contested the Infraction Point, but I was told it was given correctly and that I should report you.
I won’t.
