Or the crafted winged or crafted masquerade would be my guess for the new re skinned mesh. They seem close to the T3 mesh. Now if they simply use the T3 mesh again and try to reskin the… err… reskin then whooo boy. The rage will be mighty indeed.

They should remodel cultural armor so ALL races can use any of them. This is a lot of work though.

Also, for those complaining about it being “exclusive”, you lost that by choosing the most common race/armor combo.

I’ve already gotten this skin because I LOVED the look of it..
What if I HATE the new look of it? Will there be an option for a refund then, cuz it is a lot of gold/gems for something you don’t want and it would make me quite upset to be stuck with something I don’t want to use..

We have the option of being refunded. Personally, if I don’t like it I’m asking for my actual money back, not just the gems. I wouldn’t have funded them if the armor hadn’t been there, and if they wouldn’t give me back my actual money then that would be a bait and switch, of sorts. I’m pretty grumpy.

Actually bait and switch is a good term for it, you buy something in good faith based on what you see and then it gets changed after you paid the purchased price.

This is why I am unhappy about this solution. I wouldn’t have bought the gems had I known they would change the armor after the fact. I put the money in specifically for that set, and now that it is being taken back I have no guarantee that my money will net me a skin I’ll enjoy. Considering their other armor releases, I have little faith I’ll find something as appealing as how the flamekissed set looked on my female Asura. It seems like they’re only refunding gems, but I really would want my money back if I’m unhappy with the change. I guess I’ll see how that goes when the time comes.

(I should also note I already owned the human T3 and wasn’t upset over people other than humans wearing it.)

How is ‘being allowed to keep it or have a refund if you’re not happy’ not fair compensation?

Because he wants to keep the armor as is. I do to. A totally fair and correct result would have been to remove it from the gem store, redesigning it but let those who have bought it keep the existing skin.

No. This whole uproar about the skins is exactly because people were allowed to buy a reskin of a T3 cultural armor on the Gem Store. If those people could keep it simply because they bought it before ANet admitted the mistake and decided to fix, the problem would persist, since people would still have the amor that shouldnt have been sold on the first place.

So why punish the purchasers, who purchased in good faith. When it was not a problem they created?

And how exactly are you being punished? Youre getting your money back.

Because they’ll have to cover the cost of replacing their skins if they don’t like the new one. Unless Anet offers a skin rollback which seems unlikely

Im assuming they are going to provide a rollback for the previous armor pieces and even refund players real money (for those who spent real money on it), which would be the right thing to do. Maybe you could provide me a link that states otherwise.

Admittedly it’s speculation but I don’t imagine Anet stores data on what items have been previously part of a transmuted item. The only scenario I see rollbacks happening is if you can provide proof, like a screenshot, that you previously had those skins.

Well, they must have. Isnt it what the Transmutation Splitters do? Return the items to the previous appearance?

What a train wreck. Sigh… I bought the new light set and love it. Now I’m going to login at some point and see it look different. If I don’t like it then I have to jump through hoops to get a gem refund and they will also have to figure out how to split it from the armor I used it on. They should seriously just let those that bought it and used it keep the look and put the new look back on the gem store.

Train wreck is right. This is going to be a major hassle no matter what (I honestly have little faith in me liking the new set.) Now there will be unhappy people with just about whatever they do.

It would be much less hassle for Anet support if they just let those of us that bought the original set keep the looks and put the revamped set on the gem store when they get it done.

And then we’ll have the same argument about not being unique anymore… when there are a million other ways to give your character uniqueness.

Whether something is either wrong or right, someone will always complain about it.

I wouldn’t complain if they did /that/ (in fact I’d like it). But if I have to deal with another new character entirely to get a look I would otherwise want while the one I put time into getting is freely and easily available, it’s not ok. No double standards.

This is yet another problem. People pay RWM for gems to get the original set. Then it changes and if they don’t like it they can get a gem refund. That’s great and all but if you paid RWM just to get the gems to buy the set you are left with gems and nothing you wanted for your money. So will they refund RWM for those that used it to buy gems for the set? I doubt it.

Hey, everyone. We’ve been reading all your feedback about the Flamekissed Armor Skin that was released into the Gem Store yesterday.

Although the Flamekissed Armor uses the same mesh as the Tier 3 Human Cultural Armor, it was not our intention to create an armor skin that so closely matched the existing Tier 3 Human Cultural armor set. The intention was to use the mesh as a basis for creating an armor set that stands apart and is distinct in appearance. However, after reading your feedback, we agree that the Flamekissed armor is not visually distinct enough from Human Cultural Tier 3 armor.

We will do a few things to address this issue.

  • We will temporarily remove Flamekissed Armor Skin from the Gem Store.
  • Players who have purchased Flamekissed Armor Skin will keep the skin.
  • We will make new art for the Flamekissed Armor Skin that achieves our goal of making a visually distinct and attractive armor set and does not closely resemble the Human Tier 3 Cultural armor.
  • Once this new artwork is completed, we will then update the Flamekissed Armor Skin so that all existing sets that players have purchased get the new art. We will also offer the Flamekissed Armor Skin for sale again at that time.
  • When we update the Flamekissed Armor Skins with the new artwork, any player that has already purchased the set and who does not like the new, updated look, can get a full refund by contacting Customer Support.

Note that there is no ETA on when this change will happen. We need to work with the Character Art Team to determine when we can have a new armor skin ready, and this could take some time.

Thank you everyone for providing your feedback. We appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel about the new armor set.

I’d rather be given a refund for the skin because the only reason I bought it was because of how it looked.

This is great but… Any chance on making the new Flamekissed actually look the same for males and females? I’m tired of females being given nothing but bras, bikinis, and sex-plate by way of new armor.

I think ANet will make something along similar style of what it was. If they were truly going for that “design” then I think they know what elements they want the armor to be. So designing something to take its place could happen. Heck, it might even be better then before.

I do think the Heavy and Medium needs to be looked at though. Even if the Light gets redone entirely, they barely seem like they are of the same theme aside from the fire. Continuity is still a thing.

Personally I think this whole situation should of never arose. But what can you do, it happened. Being offered refunds is the least they can do though. I’m sure they will credit in trans stones and a splitter or something if needed. ANet isn’t usually afraid to refund or fix a wrong when it comes to real money.

I purchased the flamekissed armour for my fire elementalist because of the lava-like theme that I’m going for. I wasn’t really fussed on the whole cultural armour controversy as I myself had purchased t3 human legs for my Mesmer literally a week or two before this came out, and I wouldn’t have changed a thing anyway because she doesn’t suit the lava look, but I do have one concern in regards to the change of the redesign, and that is:

What will happen to our armour that has already had the flamekissed skins applied to them? If we ultimately don’t like the new look and request a refund, will Anet be able to, after the refund, revert those armours back to their original skins?

Forever a supporter of more male skimpy armor

So you’re going to take away something that people bought and enjoy without compensating them fairly. It is great to be a paying customer at ArenaNet.

Looks like someone didn’t read it:

  • Those who bought it can keep it for the moment.
  • When they update it, it’ll be changed.
  • If the player isn’t happy with it, they’ll get a refund.

How is ‘being allowed to keep it or have a refund if you’re not happy’ not fair compensation?

Fair compensation would be guaranteeing that at the end I’m as satisfied with how my character looks in it after they change it as I am now or they give me something else that makes me equally satisfied. if I’d just wanted 800 gold or 10 bucks, I wouldn’t have bought it in the first place.

Unless they’ve got a great plan for this, I don’t see them making up for the money and time I and others spent putting together other things to go with this armor that may or may not match the new armor. And I don’t think they have the pull to get me a day off to start from scratch on a new set even if they did.

There is nothing fair to the people who purchased the gem store armor about this resolution.

You get to wear the armor you liked untill you get a full refund. Want them to come and clean your apartment as well? People like you make it really hard to not use bad language.

Well, they must have. Isnt it what the Transmutation Splitters do? Return the items to the previous appearance?

I believe it returns the original appearance of the item, does it not? I overwrote an already skinned set with the flame skin. If I split it then I’ll get the standard badge of honor exotics, not the skin I overwrote. That isn’t acceptable.

For the people raging about having spent a fictional currency (gw2 gold) for their t3 armor, I get it. You spent a long time grinding to get all that gold and you feel betrayed. But telling us that bought the skin that we don’t belong in the game is rather silly. I bought a product/service from a real company for real money. I expect to get what I paid for. There’s laws to ensure that I do.

No matter, we haven’t seen the new skin yet. It might be even more awesome than it currently is, but I fear it might not be. Let’s wait and see before we bring out the pitchforks.

Sure but what about people that bought gems with RWM specifically for the set the way it looked? Bob sees set and likes it, pays cash to get his 800 gems only for it, buys set, then the set changes. Now Bob doesn’t like it and gets a gem refund but has 800 gems for his real world money and has nothing to buy unless and if something comes along later he wants. He spent $10.00 to get some gems in the end and not the skin he wanted.

Say I was looking for a new coat and I find one on some online store that offers all sorts of clothing. I buy the coat but then they tell me they no longer carry it and they are giving me store credit to make up for it. I gave them my money for the coat and now all I have is the option to use the money I spent on something else from their store I may not want or need. I wanted a coat not 30 pairs of socks.

The precedent for this phenomenon is “refunds for in-store credit only.” This is a fairly typical and common business practice.

I’d say it’s more like you ordered a coat and they sent you a completely different coat. To apologize they give you store credit. But now you’re stuck with a coat you don’t like and you can’t get back the old coat you gave up. So now you’ll have to go buy another one.

About replacements, all of these sets should get skins updated, (if ANet values income that is), because current medium and heavy sets were recieved poorly aswell, not only reskins but also resking of armors that are ones of worst looking models in game so far.

I would suggest replacing current:
Light set into Winged or anything really that looks well (and there are plenty).
Medium I have no idea at all, only trenchcoats to choose from, Assassin’s is cultural so out of question.
Heavy has some nice skins, like orrian, there is some room to good ideas.

The Complaint: I’ve spent 38 laurels for my flamekissed (along with all my valuable collectibles from the bank), that’s 28 days of dailyes and a monthly + almost sold one of my 3 rare skins. I bought a new 3 piece cof set worth of 1000 flame legion tokens and reskinned on top of an existing armor (boots, helm and gloves) and added a whole set of runes to it (not extremely expensive but still, as a player who plays every now and then, who struggles for one gold a day it’s rather unfair. My time spent in game after “a year” of gw2 consists of a daily and after several dailyes a rush to finish the monthly.

So what should I expect from this? An update to my flamkissed that will make the original cultural T3 owners wish they did shut their mouth.

What I know will truly happen? I know deep inside ArenaNet will fail the expectations I have for the update. This skin came as a divine blessing after months of trying to figure out a way to get cultural without going completely broke (and destroy my real life after risking to fail my exams). I know what I’ll get in exchange is a Jester Skin, a joke. And as others have pointed out before: No, the gems refund is not enough. You can’t wipe the memories. I will always remember this armor as the best light armor in gw2. Ripping that from me isn’t worth 800 gems nor a million. Owning this armor is as priceless to me as it was for a player who owns the original T3 from back in the day the flamekissed didn’t exist. I share equal compassion for those who got tricked by ANET with the release of the armor, whether it’s the Vintage or New owners but I wouldn’t want to see it all go to waste.

Important: Before I go on I must state that SOME people care so little about their culturals that they actually salvage them. So don’t tell me how much you love them and how much time you’ve spent working on a now salvaged set that you threw away for cheap money for a legendary. Don’t act as if you are part of this, waiting for a new free armor to drop from the sky cuz you regret salvaging yours. And don’t be greedy. This has nothing to do with the ones who actually wear the armor every day and represents to them their best look.

My solution? There is no good solution. For some reasons:
1. Greed: The more people think about the opportunity of making ANET do what they want, the more the people will profit. I agree that all 3 sets are cheap remodels, but I do not agree with the players asking for a rework of all 3 of them. I too want to see ANET release better armor sets in the future and yes, the ones released until now were either lazy or they lacked the fantasy and creativity. (Or perhaps we can’t imagine how hard it is to actually be a game designer/developer?)

2. Three-sided: They won’t be able to satisfy us all. This is in human nature. (yes three, now two, there’s Vintage owners, Flame-Kissed owners and eventually the ones that i.e. didn’t get to buy any of them or made some mistake and didn’t get one of them in time.)

3. Vanity.

4. The gw2 “Purists”, also known as players that play an excessive amount. The hardcores, for short.

What I think could be closest to satisfying the majority:

1. Keep the armor in game and allow access to it for free for people who own the Vintage T3 and the current Flame-Kissed Owners, regardless of race. The rest have to show the coin.
2. Add a new T3 amor for humans that will be accesible yet again for free by only the Vintage T3 owners (by letting them trade-in their old cultural) and purchasable with gold by the rest of the players. (Same price as other culturals). Basically reinvent the cultural while keeping it fair for the owners who maybe like the old model or for the ones who want to keep the flame-kissed. Either way, most people will be pleased. Both old, lucky and new. This method would require creating a new armor from 0. A better armor, something not cheap nor lazy that would restore grace to the current cultural owners.

Note: This might seem like I am trying to shift the potential failure on updating the Flame-Kissed onto the Original but I think the pressure will be higher on ANET to work infinitely more for it since the majority of the players involved own the original. Also, this time, and from now on, they should ask us how to get it done. Step by step. How? Simple. Show us the armor in different steps of development and what alternatives we have and put up a voting system, a simple 5 star rating. Just break down the armor into all it’s components and starting from the gloves, show us 2-3 models of gloves we can vote for and so on until a set is completed that was made piece by piece for the playerbase.

With much love for both those who agree and disagree,
Nihilmus

I was not upset over others having the T3 as well (as I reskinned my T3 Human) but you will always get the have and have nots and elitists in all MMO’s, yet the ones that did not complain and did nothing wrong are the ones that cop the fallout.

Yep. The people who whined the loudest about their prestigious armor (eh…) are getting what they want, meanwhile the paying customers who didn’t do anything wrong are now getting screwed. I’m hoping the new armor will look nice, but I have a hard time keeping my hopes up. Fanciness and bragging rights restored!

I’m really hoping the next skin doesn’t suck, because I will fight to get my money back otherwise. They can’t just bait and switch paying customers to make bystanders happy.

It looked so good on my female Asuran ele too. :\ Hardly anything looks nice on them.

Wonder what the ratio of T3 to the reskin is and who is the larger group because they are going to kitten off a lot of people who paid RWM for the reskin, especially ones that do not even know about the changes.

Being offered refunds is the least they can do though. I’m sure they will credit in trans stones and a splitter or something if needed. ANet isn’t usually afraid to refund or fix a wrong when it comes to real money.

Not in any modern store I have been a customer of in the last 30 years.

If you want Tier 3 Human Light Skin then re-role a HUMAN!

Everyone else had to WORK for there Tier 3 armor, you should too!

If you are seriously complaining about them changing flamekissed armor then you dont belong in this game.

If I wanted the Tier 3 Human light armor skin I WOULD’VE bought it. I bought this skin because I think it looks BETTER than the T3. I am currently using it on my Human Mesmer and I really, really, really want to keep it because it looks AWESOME.

I’d prefer it if they upgraded the Medium and Heavy Flame-skins to something better looking; other T3 sets perhaps? Not as if I’d care if someone runs around with T3 Norn Heavy or T3 Human Medium reskins just because I have the original ones – you can still tell quite easily that it’s a reskin and not “the real deal” so I really don’t understand what all the fuzz is about..

I’m glad that you took the time to respond to this thread Regina, but I have to ask, as a team leader for this game, do you understand the fundamental problems with what has been going on with the development side of this game? I’m sure that it has been painfully obvious given the type of posts this forum see’s that there is a major issue over there. Not just with living story but content generation itself, I mean not only are these armors bad, but they are just poorly drawn copies of already existing armor in the game, why would something like this be endorsed for release? At they very least if you are going to copy an already available in game armor template, make it look BETTER if you have to buy it for cash money.

Thankfully, I only wanted the gloves and put it on a cheap pair but, yeah, customer service had better get ready to do right by those who put this over an expensive skin and will now lose that skin if they use a splitter. If people in that situation start getting the automated “We can not restore in-game items” message when they ask for help" there will be a well deserved gathering of pitchforks and torches in Tyria! Hopefully customer service is smart enough to think of what to do ahead of time and to delay release of the new skin until they have a fair solution to this screw up. If they can not handle this issue fairly then the best thing to do would be to leave the already purchased skin alone, apologize and be sure not to repeat the mistake in the future.

-snip-

With much love for both those who agree and disagree,
Nihilmus

Many of the issues you and others have outlined are of the exact situations my proposal was worked out to address and prevent, issues that are now arising as predicted due to their chosen, undesirable method to handle this situation.
I wish you a very fond farewell and happy holiday if you are celebrating one (or two) this weekend.

I have to think that if they changed their stance on this it was more then a few people complaining. But yes this is a train wreck. And yes there will be un satisfied customers now regardless. However this problem wasn’t created by any of the community. This is a self inflicted wound by the developer. At no point should exclusive T3 cultural meshes have been considered for sale in the gem store UNLESS all T3 cultural meshes were being made available. The idea shouldn’t have even left the drawing board. So really the only people to blame is Anet. They totally own this snafu.

Since the 3 day head start I spent around £2000 ( yes three zeros) if not more (need to put all Paypal transactions together) , and this is how they repay us (the paying customers), probably will not make a difference for them if a customer like me leaves the game, but hopefully i will not be the only one.

Sorry but I don’t see a problem? They said they would offer full refund if the new art wouldn’t please.

My personal opinion is of course that it should be possible to mix armors anyway players want. Some medium armors would combo really nicely with certain heavy sets, etc… Anyway, they are redesigning the armor and offering a refund for those who don’t like the new skin. I can’t see any particularly ill behavior here.

ps. Check out my post history – i’m not a fanboy.

I am a paying customer who has spent a good deal of money on the gem store items…I just also happened to get the normal T3. But 10 dollars is about a cheap meal’s worth, and the time I put into getting an inferior armor set (awful awful non-exotic stats) and then putting it on celestial gear is worth a lot more than 10 bucks. If ANet wasn’t going to refund half of the 120 gold I spent on the normal T3 – not to mention make other cultural armors obtainable so everyone can mix and match the look they want for a high end burger and fries price – then this is the right move to keep getting my money, as a show of good faith to people who did put in the time to get it and to show they aren’t promoting a double standard. I do hope you can get your original skins and whatever else back though.

I’m happy with the decision to change the Flamekissed skin but I don’t believe it should be removed completely. Upgrading the human T3 light cultural armor with the flame effects would be a great way of keeping it in the game because many people liked it better. It would definitely be worth the 119 gold it costs.

This would be a bad idea. They shouldn’t change graphical looks of things after people get them. I guarantee there are people who don’t want flames. If anything, make a 2nd T3 set for the same price.

Note that there is no ETA on when this change will happen. We need to work with the Character Art Team to determine when we can have a new armor skin ready, and this could take some time.

Thank you everyone for providing your feedback. We appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel about the new armor set.

I am not happy, the reason being because i doubt they will refund me the full amount, i didn’t just buy the armor, i put over my previous armor that was also from the gem shop, i bought a makeover kit to change the look of my character so it went well with this new flame set, and i bought expensive dyes for this armor look. I like the Armor because Norn don’t have many light gear that looks good on them. I don’t like that just because some people complain we who like the set have to pay, i understand you are angry, i have bought the tier 3 cultural on my human Mesmer, so what if this set its better and cheaper, people need to stop whining and move on, bad move on Anet, dont take away from people just because a few cry babies are angry.

As excited as I was to be able to get this armor for my norn, I appreciate the exclusivity destruction caused by the light armor skin. I have two questions:

1) have you considered release a new skin and leaving first day purchasers with the opportunity to keep the original? I imagine the likelihood of this depends on how many people purchased it.

2) I placed the skin over previously transmuted armor (3 CoF and 3 temple, which I mix and matched lower tier armor skins onto). If we select a refund, when the new armor is released, will we receive transmutation stones to reapply previous skins? I don’t know how a double transmutation works with the splitters… My skin choices were cheap ones, but I imagine some people may have applied over other skin upgrades, which might make this even more complicated.

My thought is that #1 is the easiest solution to #2, but not the one that T3 cultural owners may find acceptable… Which I respect.
