Q:

So I recently had a topic merged with an already preexisting topic in the bug section. Which isn’t really a problem, I like knowing that this was a recognized problem that other players are experiencing.

But it was merged with a 2 year old topic.

I have an extremely difficult time imagining that the same bug existed for two years. And a harder time imagining its gone unfixed.

I could imagine that the original cause of the bug was fixed and a new bug has appeared and started causing the same issue.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to close older topics and merge new topics with ones that could be more relevant?

My example refers to the guild chat bug. I have a hard time imaging the reason for the bug from 2 years ago is the same one that’s occurring now.

Then imagine even hader, because it does happen. There are stil a ton of bugs that were there since launch, unfortunately.
Now, not knowing exactly what bug you are talking about, i cannot say it is definitely an old one, but in general this is not as impossible as you may think.

Actions, not words.

ANet seems to have a priority list, and sometimes somethings just never rise to the top. Usually it’s small bugs, or bugs that aren’t consistently buggy.

And yet, the Devs that would be responsible for the bug in question would read the latest additions to the thread, no matter when the thread was started. It’s not like they would say, ‘Oh! Someone posted a report of a bug that was fixed 2 years ago….we can ignore the possibility that it cropped up, again, or players are experiencing a new bug in the same area.’

It is just easier for everyone to read one thread than several on the same subject. Now, I suppose it would be fantastic for the Devs to tell the Moderators when they have eradicated a bug, and urge the Moderators to close all the previous threads that had been created in however long the bug had been around, but I am guessing the Devs and/or the Mods don’t have enough time.
