During the hunt for Final Rest, my level 80 mesmer fought and defeated the Demagogue solo several times. It was always a frantic affair, lots of running and dodging, and circle strafing. It’s a much tougher fight with my level 80 thief, and a much easier but more boring fight with my level 36 engineer standing back and healing the ghosts.

Anyway, last time I played my mesmer I’d logged off with her still in that area. This morning I logged in on my mesmer and saw that the Demagogue event was in progress, so I ran over to join in. The Demagogue was at half health. No one else was there. So I leaped into the fray… and he pretty much ignored the clones and phantasms and Hounds of Balthazar and chased my mesmer around and around until no amount of dodging or healing could keep up with the damage and splat. Downed. Defeated.

Went right back and clobbered him, but it sure seems like something has changed. I didn’t see anything that seemed relevant in the patch notes, so… what was it? A nerf to my mesmer – or a buff to the Demagogue? Anybody else experience anything similar?

You just logged on… it could have been that you simply weren’t in your rhythm yet. I’ve had that happen at least…

Possibly linked to the stealth nerf where mobs don’t reset aggro when their target goes invisible. I know you’re not going invisible yourself, but I would guess that ArenaNet have taken the easy and lazy option here and made it so that mobs always know where the true target is.

dont know but i done 2 fractals today, both low for my lvl and I been one shot killed by everything that many times im like wt*. Its like im playing with no armour.

Something smells fishy to me, the usually stealth nerfs.

There was one difference today. I usually run with staff and sword/pistol, but today I used scepter/pistol. Since the only sword skill I generally use in that fight is Illusionary Leap, I thought I’d try the scepter, ya know, just for the thrill of it. Couple more ranged attacks.

Could that one skill mean the difference between the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat?

Well I believe they adjusted events so that difficulty scales with the players present.

Also, Final Rest drops from shadow behemoth. They’re dropping like candy after the patch.
