I have played as them plenty of times and against them even more and I have come to the conclusion that while they are not “Overpowered” per say, the amount of “frustration to fun” is unbalanced.

Explanation:

The frustration vs fun ratio is simply a ratio of fun a profession produces while playing against it and as it vs the frustration it causes on the enemy. The reward being winning and causing confusion on the enemy, which right now it is not correct. Several of my friends agree with me and some have even given up on sPvP mostly because the extreme frustration fighting against a mesmer can produce.

When I played as a mesmer I had fun confusing my enemies, but to be honest it wasnt nothing out of this world, i didnt feel very rewarded by using copies because even if they died I could respawn them again no problem, they do damage, burst casters waste cooldowns on the wrong one and they are done for, and the others lose a lot of potential damage and health by trying to decipher which one is real, which, I admit is hard.

My fun came mostly from hearing my friends “rage” in agony on skype and how hard it was to decipher who was who, but other than that I didnt feel any other “reward” , no “fun” other than feeding upon the frustration of my friends, which i couldnt really enjoy on other people because players that are not on the skype call wouldnt be able to express anything, so i just expected them to be stresed too.

It wasnt until I started playing other classes that I realized just how frustrating it is to go against one, to the point of begging not to get matched agaisnt one, and if i could avoid the fight, I Would at all cost, thats how bad it got to some point.

I realized that Mesmer players have forced upon themselves that the “fun” of the class is causing grief and frustration, while I agree that many people like causing grieve (therefore trolls exists) I will say that this is unhealthy to the game, to the point that two of my friends refuse to play sPvP due to the existance of mesmers and how hard they are to kill, say which one is real and catch.

My suggestion;

Make killing the copies more rewarding by increasing the time it takes for them to respawn, decrease their health, make it easier to know which one is the real (It kinda sucks that i have to CTRL + T people to know which one is real, and if there is more than one…… well, we are screwed)

I know you can tell which one is real by seeing it dodge, but they will only do so after you have wasted 3 CDs on other ones, and that is just NO fun for the enemy while the mesmer all he get is the “satisfaction” of just standing there auto-attacking and watching the enemy waste CDs.

As in stated in other game, they are currently “anti-fun” and the amount of “fun” they bring does not outweight the amount of frustration and grief they produce.

Didn’t they just nerf mesmers in that respect recently? I don’t play anymore but I could swear somebody was complaining about this in the last few days.

It’s a game forum. The truth is not to be found here.

This thread is pointless, the whole class is about finding the real one. Anybody who knows something about mesmer can find the real player and thats the reward in figthing a mesmer, if u cannot distinguish them than u deserve to rage over it.

to the three people above me:
@1: yes, they were nerfed, damage wise they are fine, but they still didnt hit the core element that made them overpowered.
@2: I have played PLENTY of mesmers, i know how they work, and even I have issues, what does that leave for those players who have nplayed them little to almsot nothing? The amount of frustartion they generate is TOO MUCH compared to what they should
@3: because there is more than one player on the enemy team, and also not everybody knows of it existance…..

I have 11 characters and considering them all, strengths and weaknesses, it would never occur to me that a mesmer needs a nerf as it stands. I have only one profession that could, uh, use an adjustment—but I’ll will leave it unnamed, fearing a nerf. Professions need to be balanced with effective challenges/counters to other professions and the environment. Obvious peaks and valleys need to be addressed. But, I’m sorry, I just don’t see mesmers falling into either category at the moment. I’m pretty happy with where they are.

If you have trouble finding out which is real, you deserve to be frustrated. Sorry.

You know you can put a target on the real one, right? The real mesmer is also usually the one running around while the clones are standing still. People need to stop calling for nerfs just because they have a hard time against a class. Fix the bugs and bring a couple of the classes UP to par, not nerf a few into the ground. And no, I don’t play a mesmer, I play a ranger.

Sure, you can nerf Mesmers a bit. If you compensate them with buffs to their lacking areas (Torches, many utility skills, no swiftness outside of the Focus, which has a really bad Phantasm, etc.)

Frankly, Arenanet needs to stop nerfing professions and start fixing traits and underpowered weapon sets and mechanics in general. We NEED more viable build paths on every profession. Period.

Yes on the above post. If you nerf mesmers then you need to nerf thieves stealth abuse too…

If anything, mesmers should be buffed. I’m not talking about pvp but rather pve, they’re already very slow compared to other professions and the recent nerfs really hurt their usefulness even more.

It is easy to spot a real Mesmer.

Ctrl-T…

If that doesn’t work (i.e. crowded or too late to do it), then…

Real ones usually run around, fake ones stand still…

If that doesn’t work (i.e. Mesmer stands still to mimic their copies(, then…

Real ones usually attack faster, hurts more…

If players don’t figure that out, they need to play Mesmer to know about how the class work, or they need to learn to play better against such tactics….

p.s.
My favorite is a Thief, but I play Mesmer and Necromancers on the side…

mesmers not only got nerfed in the last patch they got broken, bezerker does less dmg than autoattack, clones and phantams fail to cast, portal entry is no longer synchronised with the skills cool down.

some other bugs you might find are, clones dont have a 100% completion star, clones dont have titles, clones dont have offhand weapons
