This move seemed to really short-change mid-level characters. It’s nice that my warrior doesn’t have to spec strength just to get the damage bonus, but it sort of defeats the purpose of the new system when I log in and find out my points are now permanently spent on strength specialization.

It seems like ArenaNet was thinking only of 80s and the new toons we’ll roll in the future.

Yeah. I really do like this game, and this company – they do seem to be a little tone-deaf lately with respect to their customers, however. I don’t see how something like this gets past everyone in the company, unless people aren’t encouraged to speak their minds. Somebody had to have noticed this.

Any of you spend any time in-game today? I managed to snag a couple of hours before work.

People were confused as hell. Yeah, all of us forum-dwellers who devour every scrap of information have been prepared for this for months, but trust me, folks – I saw plenty of people in mapchat who were completely dazed by the changes and desperately clinging to their auto-equipped build as the only thing they had left.

It’s a temporary inconvenience for us, but let’s be honest – nobody who spends a ton of time on the forums has lowbies anymore. If we do, we know how to get around the issues. There are folks out there who were honestly kittened off at ArenaNet for ‘dropping this kind of crap on players without warning’.

It boggles my mind, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t see it. And given that I did, I’m going to just nod, smile, and go along with the old-build conversions.

Some people, apparently, need all the help they can get.

I’d rather deal with this than unlocking all my traits for a new character.

On the same topic, don’t you guys try to strictly follow old builds, many things will have to be adjusted! The meta is changing at an alarming rate! hahah

I spent about an hour with it this morning, spread across 7 characters (6 80s, 1 37). Not much time spent with each one – just enough to adjust traits, and whack a few things. The 80s are no big deal – you just buy up everything and make adjustments. The 37 is kind of stuck. Oh well.

I hear you, Laser. I went through all of my characters and even I felt like whoa, this interface is kinda busy. But it’s not like these were the only two options. They could have asked me if I wanted to have them automagically recreate my build or not. It irks me that I wasn’t given that choice.

Personally, I don’t know how anyone can play this game and not know the change was coming – if not today then at some point. I like what another guy said – what they’re REALLY missing, is a good tutorial. I would have taken a good tutorial over a bad auto-assignment any day.

There’s not really any excuse for not knowing the changes were coming, not with the steady launcher announcements talking about the changes for the last however-many-months, but one thing you can always count on with an MMO player base is that most of it will have its head planted as firmly in the sand as possible. Forums have a rather unsavory reputation – just can’t possibly imagine why, what with all the sterling souls around here falling all over themselves to offer polite and respectful help for rookies… – and a lot of people probably just Autoplay the launcher and don’t pay attention to the news feed.

Heh…or did, rather. Maybe this’ll learn ’em.
