Miniature Collection - Set I
The Mini Jackalope has always been part of the collection. It’s a Set 1 mini pet just like the others and obtained in exactly the same ways. Which currently means the Toy Miniature Eggs found in black lion chests.
I’m not sure why it’s so much more expensive than the other exotic Set 1 minis. The price has jumped up in the last month or so, but I can’t think of any reason why, other than general inflation. I suppose it could be someone speculating – buying lots to push the price up and then relisting them at the higher price.

The original collection only contains description now so I am not sure what it contained, however if it contained the same mini in the past, can you explain to me why the updated collection is not done and I don’t have the mini even though the original is at 54/54? Either they changed the mini or they bugged out my collection and I lost the mini.
Wiki shows the jackalope as being part of set original set. Maybe look through this list and see if you’re missing one?
ANet may give it to you.
The reason for that is Mini Risen Priest of Balthazar. It was a mini that got introduced shortly after release and unlocking it proceeded the Collection I achievement, even though it technically doesn’t belong to Set I.
For that reason, there were 55 minis that proceeded the achievement, but just 54 needed for it. The system back then had no “checklist” but simply counted the number of different minis. In result, you were able to leave out one mini and still get the achievement.
With the recent changes regarding collections, this “bug” got fixed. Now you have to own every available mini from Set I.
It’s also because even though they look identical the two achievements have different requirements.
The old version just required you to have all 54 minis in your inventory or bank at the same time, the new version requires you to have them all unlocked in the wardrobe – which prevents people passing minis between friends to complete the achievement.
There are many people who have the old version completed and not the new version, either because they no longer have those minis or because they haven’t added them to the wardrobe yet.

Yup, the Jackalope was always part of the mini collection. I remember because I had to borrow a guildie’s Jackalope to finish the achievement (back when we didn’t have to bind them to do so). And, as Thanathos said, the Balthazar mini is probably the weirdo one.
Thanks I guess. The thing is back in the day the mini was far cheaper so getting the collection was realistic. Last I checked they were around 270g, now they are 570g and as mentioned above there are only 4 on sale for all the worlds combined. Would be better if the set consisted of something you could realistically get yourself. I didn’t even know you could just pass minis around in the past (and judging by the fact that you “had to get it from a friend” suggests it was hardly obtainable even back then, let alone now).
You didn’t have to get it from a friend. It was entirely possible to get one for yourself.
But if you just wanted to complete the achievement and didn’t want to keep the mini pets it made a lot of sense to borrow them from someone who had them and then give them back afterwards (assuming you could find someone who trusted you). I know of a couple of people who had ‘guild mini pets’ which would be passed around everyone (via the guild bank) so they could complete the achievement.
It is harder to get now because you have to actually bind them to your account, so you can’t borrow them and give them back afterwards. But it’s still possible to complete.
The price is highly unlikely to stay that high because there’s always more in the game than listed on the TP. Many people hold on to valuable items until they need the gold, or until the price jumps up (even I’ve got a black lion skin greatsword and two super adventure box weapons I’m waiting to sell).
But in this case the item is also still available – you can get them from the Black Lion Chests. It’s not a great way to get them if you want a specific mini pet because there’s no guarantee you’ll get a mini from the chest and if you do then it may not be the one you want, but it still means more are entering the game every day and at least some of those will be sold on the TP. (Case in point: there are now 5 on the TP.)
This topic might help too. I can’t prove the two are related but it wouldn’t be the first time someone’s posted about something jumping up in price and then suddenly more get listed. Again I’ve done it myself, usually with Mystic Coins – I hear the price has gone up and go and sell any spares I have. I’ve also seen the opposite, the price of something crashes, people post about it and that leads to more buyers taking advantage of the change and the price goes back up.

No, it was fairly obtainable back then. I knew several people who got it as a drop, and I knew a few more who just bought it. The set 1 mini pack was on sale in the gem store still, and so people were getting the more often. Since the pack is no longer on sale, your only options are to get extremely luck with the Toy Miniature Egg from Black Lion Chests (gives you a random mini from sets 1, 2, and 3) or buy on the gem store. Hence the price raise, until people decide to dump more.
Whenever supply drops below 10 or so, prices start to rise. It’s possible someone has tried to profit by buying up 30 or so and let the market choose a new, higher equilibrium. However, it seems likely to me that there are a few dozen other people with the same idea as you: “hey, with few AP available these days, I should try to complete some of these more expensive/obscure collections/achievements.”
PS Jack-a-lop has always been part of Mini I and Mini I (new version). I had it stored for a long time (for each collection), trying to decide whether to take the profit or hold on to it.

The prices of minis vary. The Jack-a-Lop has varied in price considerably.
- Within 4 months of launch, it hit 250 gold (remember: this was when 1 gold was hard to come by).
- In 2013, insta-buy price ranged from ~95 to ~290 g
- In 2014, < 60 gold to ~150 gold.
- In 2015, ~120 gold to ~250 gold
In short, you missed a great time to buy and sellers had a horrid time most of last year.
The achievements for miniature series 1, 2, and 3 were changed when minis were added to the account wardrobe. They told us up front that we would have to start completely over for the achievements. Meaning, even if you had completed 1 or more achievement you’d have to do it all over again.
Players use to buy/sell/loan minis for the achievement. So players who already had part of a collection done or even completed had to regain various minis they no longer had.
There are a couple issues:
1) Minis are permanently destroyed when adding them to your wardrobe. This made the supply go down and prices went up (quite a lot for certain minis) when the update happened.
2) Currently the only way to get these minis is from the Toy Miniature Egg from black lion chests. The drop rate on the eggs is horrible. A few months ago I bought 50 keys from the gem shop and only got about 2 or 3 eggs. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Toy_Miniature_Egg Of course it gave me common minis I already had. (might have got 1 rare, but still I already had it)
3) Since the Toy Miniature Egg has a chance to grant 1 mini from any of the 3 series, your chances of getting a Mini Jackelope are extremely low, meaning you are a lot less likely to get the mini you want. Previously, they sold the series 1 at a time in the gem shop, so when you bought a series 1 you would only get a mini from that series.
Edit: The minis series from the gem shop gave you 3 random minis from that series. But the Toy Miniature Egg only gives you 1 random mini from any of the 3 series. Again, causing your chances to get what you want to be extremely low, and the supply on certain minis to also be low. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Minis_3-Pack_%28Set_1%29 And for a while the series 3-packs had a chance to drop from black lion chest. But that was, obviously, replaced with the Toy Miniature Egg.
IMO, they really screwed us over on this one.

Having to bind them is not a problem, I had all of mine in storage anyway so it was just a matter of binding them and had pretty much the full collection anyway. The issue I have with this one is:
1. The rate of getting black lion chest is ridiculously low
2. The rate of getting pet eggs from a black lion chest is ridiculously low (might have gotten 1 in my 3 years here)
3. The chance of getting this specific pet out of the egg is ridiculously low
Do the math, the chance of you getting the pet yourself doesn’t exist, the chance of anybody on the server getting one is tiny. The collection is open to everybody, but really can’t be done. Also the argument of secretly holding onto a mountain of these to sell “later” is ridiculous due to their general availability as pointed out above.
I am a completionist, I like to get everything, but this one is just unrealistic.
