Clearly a exploit, the karma pick being able to mine ori is clearly a error so the people doing it should be banned. On the other hand being lvl 2 is not a issue aslong as your using a black lion pick.

What I get out of reading this:

Gem Shop = Good!
Playing the Game = Bad!

Same situation. Just one comes from a Karma vendor and the other from the Gem Shop/random black lion chest drops.

No what you get from reading my post is common sense. The perks of the gem store mining pick is that you can mine anything at any lvl ( no one would buy it to mine ori because they wont make the money they spent to get it, its only people who opened tons of blc chests who are using it.) The karma pick wasn’t intended to mine ori and it was a game error and its pretty obvious so the people who are doing it are exploiting a bug intentionally ( since they know its not intended yet they are doing it, and asking the obvious via forum) .

I dont think this is wrong. It’s not an exploit you’re just playing the game. I’ve seen loads of people do it and tbh, the ori price is still 2 silver it hasn’t dropped or anything so to people who say others should be banned because of this are imho, just jealous or something. I’ve been helping a friend get his 400 ore for legendary this way for 2 days now, and would be pretty sad if they removed that pick. I don’t need em. Have over 100 gold anyways and no idea what to do with it
And word of advice, if you don’t want them nerfing every steady and nice way of making money in the game making threads like this won’t help that cause.

Jealous? lol. Exploit is a exploit any way you look at it, doing something which wasn’t intended is exploiting, and this is affecting the market as we speak since the price of ori is going way below than it should be. And doing this is not just playing the game you wouldn’t do it if you didn’t know about the bug in the first place.

PS: If you want to help your friend get his legendary then do it the right way by mining it using the right pick. I’m not saying the rich vein is the issue, i’m saying that people using the karma pick to mine shouldn’t be doing it since its not intended to mine ori ores.

And how do you know it wasn’t intended? Did that pick exist since launch or they added it later on? I’ve seen a general increase in prices, from ectos to rares so I wouldn’t say that it affects the TP in any way. The prices are not dropping – at least not on my server

Prices dropping like crazy. I dont think this was intended at all and would be weary of it myself.Anet loves the high price of the t6 mats so that it can force people to buy gems if they want to end the grind or get through bad content. With cheaper mats ect this nullifies that notion.
I fully expect a fix to be implemented soon to bring Ori price back up to the 3s range again like it was working at before.

Around xmas the price of ori was up to 3 s. I stopped checking and selling when it dropped below 2s.
I highly doubt that anet wanted to achieve great gameplay by having players deleting and creating new toons over and over only to mine an ore.

I’d be fine with fixing this ,but this isn’t what’s causing the fall in price.

The fall in price is from the rich ori node in karkaland

What is with all the questions on the first page about getting banned? No, you aren’t going to be banned for using the pick to do it’s job.

That’s a shame!

I don’t see how this is an exploit because level 2 characters could barely survive places with Orichalcum.

Probably why ori prices are falling, people are exploiting this.

How is this an exploit? Equipping a pick has bupkiss to do with your level. If they don’t want a lvl 2 using a tool, then level restrict it. None of the mats are bound to lvl but to the quality of the tool being used. Exploit my hairy kitten

Its an exploit, similar mining tools have level restrictions. Like my ori sickle is level 60. Karma tools seem to lack this level restriction for the same basic item. There was that karma weapon fiasco early on in the game that a few people got banned for. and the recent snow flake jewelry crap was also cause of exploiting a slight difference in the recipe from other similar recipes.

Its not an exploit however its probably not working as intended. That being said….isnt the pick 600 karma for 25 uses? A horrible waste of karma if you ask me as the devs will only bring in more and more content that uses karma. Im saving all mine for when I need it.

I can reach it without stopping for mobs, if I was so inclined. Don’t see a reason a 2 can’t run without stopping till the mob returns to it’s patrol route, like anywhere else. Now actually using the node with that big kitten champ there…… that another thing entirely. I Shadow Refuge it.

If you have to ask yourself if you should be doing it, I would say you are better off not doing it.

That sounds like something that could get you banned, especially considering that ppl got banned for using salvage kits as intended.

What? This is complete bull crap. People get banned for the stupidest things lately, and I even heard stories from players who got banned for doing nothing wrong, and had proof that they weren’t. Yeah, they got their accounts back for submitting a ticket, but why were they banned in the first place?

This is the type of behavior that needs to be stop not encourage. I shouldn’t log on to Guild Wars 2 just to play, and fear being banned, because I might do something illegal. Since the poor, and lack of communication on Arenanet part on things.

Example: Players asked if the snow flake bug was intended. They never got answered, and Arenanet didn’t give us a warning. It was just. “BAN, LOL, BAN, LOL.”, but luckily it was only the worse 200 offenders. Even still this type of Fear they are instilling into their players is bad.

I see no reason why this Player can’t go mine Ori at level 2 if he has the means to do so. That’s his choice, and that’s how he wants to play his game.
Besides there’s no difference between 1, and 80 besides 1, and 0s. There’s no reason why he needs to wait to mine it if he wants to make money, or craft.

Anyways. that’s my thought.

The ban hammer is overplayed by players and is no where near the amount that has been made out to be. Accidental bans do happen then and again but are resolved quickly. Most if not all players who have been banned knew they were clearly exploiting something but thought they would get away with it because a lot of other people were doing it. Sadly, these people also got too greedy and were the top 10 % of the exploiters.

Doesn’t Southsun automatically scale you to lvl80?

If they didn’t want lower levels accessing the nodes there, why would they do that?

You don’t get scaled to 80 anymore. That was just during the event. So when you go there at level 2, you are still level 2. Anyone can get to that node, just strip down to your knickers and do a lot of running and dodging. Mining it is the tricky part.

And this is not an exploit. That mining pick has been around forever and has never had a requirement on it. If it was not intended, it would of been fixed a long time ago. People have been using those picks for quite awhile now and have never had any complaints. Now that people found a better use for them, all the sudden they are exploiting? Please.

If a level 2 is able to make it out to that node and mine it with a legit purchased mining pick that is doing it’s job, then more power to them. It is not an exploit in any way. They are using the tools provided to them for farming. They are not breaking any rules or abusing any bugs, so it is not an exploit.

After looking at the wiki here is my opinion on the OP’s query:

If the pick can be equipped by a level 1+ char, it’s ok. If it had a req of level 60+ and you can still equip it, this would obviously be a bug and therefore you would be exploiting.

If the pick was not meant to gather ori ore, but you was able to, then this would be an exploit. If it is intended to mine ori for level 1+ chars, as stated by the wiki, then there is absolutely no issue. You are not gaining anything more than you should be and you are using the tool within it’s set parameters.

I have a question for you though OP. How are you surviving in Southsun Cove as a level 2 character? And how are you able to get to the rich ori veins?

Simplicity is complex.

Good feedback is key to getting the developers to listen to you.

Arent players gaining more than intended when recreating characters to mine it? I sure believe they do, and thus the rapid drop in price. Rapid price changes in mmos have always been indications of unhealthy activities.

With a friend thief or mesmer (for invisibility), it’s pretty easy to get to the rich ori vein in southsun cove (you swim around the left part of the map, then go up from the waypoint). Most of the time on my server, people drag down the champion karka, so he’s not next to the ori vein. EDIT : Someone already posted a video showing how to get there in december : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI5FbMmelqE

Back to the point : I stopped mining the ori with my low level characters until we get a clear answer… Is it intended that we can use the karma mining pick (no level restriction) to mine orichalcum?

Well understand that the video guide takes around 8-12 minutes of actual time to get from point lion to the chamber top (not including the time it takes to make a new char and run them over to southsun entrance).

IF you get all the ori nodes at once, thats around 16-21 ori (one regular, one rich), atm its around 2.5 s per ori, that totals on average 45s per run.

1 run is conservative 15 mins of time with the 5 min character creation / warping built in.

Total net gain per hour is around 1.8 gold.
Total Karma used is 433.44 (or around 4-8s equivalent) per run or 1733.76 (17-34s equivalent)

Note that conversion from karma to gold is 1 way with 1 karma = 0.5 – 1 copper (acceptable trade as shown by exotic karma merchants)

Total player benefit around 1.5-1.6 gold

If you had a friend along it would cost them the time as well – especially if they already did the ori run before hand – it would half the gains

That’s a pretty bad farm right there, if anything it would be done if you wanted mystic weapons requiring hundreds of ori.

Also taking a look at the pick its 602 karma for 25 uses, of which an ori pick set is 4s for 100 uses – master pick is 24.08 karma per use and ori pick is 4 copper per use – this exchange is a 6 karma to 1 copper (much worse than the 1 karma to 1 copper exotics can be). You end up paying 600% of the copper for the master pick as opposed to ori picks (I know you can use mater picks at any level).

Imo, in any case this is so not worth the effort.

And this, my friends, is ArenaNet’s fault.

The “rich” flag should be rare, and a subject of RNG, so you can’t “camp” a guaranteed rich node.

Good news, John Smith answered this in another thread in the black lion trading co subforum : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/Orichalcum-dropping-Here-s-why/page/2#post1275199

Maybe it’s not worth the effort to create / delete alts to farm this, but for my level 2 characters that I will level up later, they are able to mine some extra orichalcum every day
