Missing all the skills from GW1
I hear you, I miss that too. You are not alone.
I miss the complexity of builds from Guild Wars 1 also. However, the profusion of skills made the game, particularly in the later stages, nearly impossible to balance and it led to a whole lot of other problems.
So while it’s nice on paper, I’d prefer to not have them in the game.
I’m assuming that as the game goes on, more skills will be added and traits will be changed to provide more variety.
I understand why the current system was designed, and why the GW1 system didn’t work. I do miss it.
What GW2 needs is the following:
- 20 more utility skills for every profession
- 7 more elite skills for every profession
- 7 more healing skills for every profession
- 3 slot skill bar for consumables, and only those work
- greatly buff the effects of combo fields
At the very least, a living meta could start developing. At the same time, throwing a random bar together would still work.

Honestly, having had balancing experience, I especially don’t believe Guild Wars 1 is hard to balance. Tedious yes, difficult no.
In my opinion it was an issue of resources to actually implement the skills rather than balance. I imagine GW2 is a lot easier to work with for skills.
Nah not completely missing some made it over the fence. HOWEVER, I get what you mean. I’m really looking forward to seeing some more shout skills from the Warrior’s skill side. Like: “Cowered!” ,“Charge!” and “I meant to do that!”.

It wasn’t just skills. It was skills in combination with the secondary profession that made it hard to balance. No matter what ANet did, someone would always find a “loophole” that made professions totally OP, like the perma-sin for example.
Anet has talked about how hard it was to balance, which is why I say it was.

That seems like a lot how long are you willing to wait lol.
I would love to see more skills but first i would like to see the skill that we have now made better before adding in new ones that ppl hope will be better.
I would love to see combo fields buffed and made more complex. May be new type of fields we are missing earth fields and i would not mind seeing a slash combo finisher maybe a roll finisher? (not sure how that would work). How about an field as a debuff you put a field type on a person and the next person to attk them with a finisher proforma a combo with that field. You could make a bleed filed a burn filed etc.. (random ideals i love the combo fields we have and i think they can be expatiated by a great deal).

As long as it takes :p GW2 is already big fun, but more skills are a prereq to make it a wonderful pvp game.

Some of these would be to give other professions the unique qualities of certain OP professions. Mesmer portals and guardian buffs come to mind prominently. It’d also allow for non-beastmaster rangers.
