How does it look with Hobosacks?
Still like Hobosacks…
If you are an engie you get a twofer with this purchase. A Mist Herald/Hobosack backpiece.
It’s exciting and wonderful to have the option to switch the Mist Herald backpiece to a Hobosack whenever you want to. And it’s free! You don’t have to use any T-charges to do this. Isn’t that the best thing since sliced bread?
The other professions are wailing and gnashing their teeth because they don’t have this option.
you know what would have been an even neater back piece? A cape with our guild emblem. It might even be bought in droves by players.

Wow. I just wanted to create this topic!
Please, consider giving it neutral colours so that it fits with every armordyes.
This orange browny colour is just not going to work well with pretty much any colour.

You know… Just this really weird, heretical thought on this…
But…
If they could make capes that worked for everyone… Don’t you think they would have done it by now?

I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’

Pretty sure if they can make big bulky back items that worked for everyone that they could have already come up with a cape design that would as well.

You obviously don’t understand anything about in-game physics.
Capes, with its issues, worked almost perfectly in GW1. Good, old times.
capes worked good in guild wars 1 because there was no jump. wonder how they do capes with characters that can jump/jump maneuver on air.
Not to mention characters can now flip in mid air while dodging.
one would think that this thing would be dyeable. It isnt.. i bought it
Would be an instant buy… but… brown doesn’t fit with the guild emblem.
It is an instant buy, but yeah I feel like dyeable parts are what should’ve happened with this item.
I think what’s even more disappointing is that they released it in the gem store, I was so excited seeing it in the wardrobe thinking it would be a wvw season reward or something.. but nope, more gem store!!
I’ll probably still get it anyways though since for some reason I really really like it.

Like I already stated in this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/About-the-new-Mist-Herald-Back-item/first I think that the color should change when entering in WvW.
The brown should become green/blue/red depending on which color your world is currently associated with.

Why would anyone think it can be dyed? None of the current backpieces have dye options, not even a suggestive empty box next to the slot in the dye tab.

This, basically.
Last game I saw that did capes well was City of Heroes, and even there, the amount of clipping that could happen was beyond belief. I saw capes turn into ampersand twists that would make a pretzel factory jealous.
And City of Heroes (as much as I /truly/ loved that game…) was not anywhere near the graphics level of Guild Wars 2.

Makes all my toons look like someones stabbed them in the back with a longbow.

Actually i know a fair bit about it. I also know that clipping occurs now on armor and there have been times when my toons have been bent to kitten and back after their animation went wonky mid move. I also remember all of those things happening with capes in GW1, yet surprise surprise, we had them there just fine, clipping issues and all.
To argue that the people at Anet can’t figure out how to animate them for jumping or swimming, etc is both a joke and an insult to the people who work on this game.

I’ve wanted a “team spirit” dye for ages- matches your pvp team while in a pvp match, and at all other times matches your wvw team.
In the mean time, each of my characters has 3 red/green/blue colors to switch out every week…

GW1 had the animation intricacies of an N64 game

First and foremost… Guild Wars 1 =/= Guild Wars 2. The sooner we all get over that the better off we will all be.
Second. Nowhere did anyone say the Devs couldn’t likely ‘figure it out’… I’m saying it would very likely look comically stupid.
Especially on hunched over characters like charr.
And lastly… performance issues.
Characters in this game seem to have a minimal amount of collision detection programmed into them. It’s why characters can move through each other so easily.
Adding collision detection for capes (not even counting the programming needed to tell the physics engine what to do when this collision happened) is not a small thing in a game where that isn’t already in existence.
And really, collision detection is actually pretty heavy on processing power and performance.
On single character/small groups, that difference can be negligible, not just on the client side of things, but on the servers as well. But you add that to each and every character in the game? That negligible difference compounds exponentially.
Now, can the game handle it?
I don’t know. As someone that does not work for Anet, I’m not privy to that knowledge.
What I can be /pretty/ sure of though, is (despite what many in the forums will insist over and over again) that the Developers are not sitting up in their ivory towers, twirling their mustaches going,
‘Haha! The players want these capes so badly! Look at them writhe and squirm in their frustration as we don’t give it to them! Their endless tears feed us!’
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’
Well, funny how every single Back Item thread always becomes a “WE WANT CAPES!!!” cry.
I hope devs got the message by now.
Can we go back talking about how much brown isn’t an appropriate dye for the Mist Herald back item?
I think they need to shrink the metal part at the base for non-charr, because it’s scaled way too large on humanoid races.
Capes, with its issues, worked almost perfectly in GW1. Good, old times.
Capes were a clipping nightmare in GW1, and that was with only one race and much simpler armor design.
Give them dyeable parts!
Same for weapons!
Problem solved!

One can only dream about these…
Tho i’d glad if they released colored back items in multiple colors, like they did with Kites.
100% agree with this thread. Was just talking about this yesterday in WvW. I saw someone with it and thought to myself “wow, that looks a lot cooler than I expected it would!”
Of course I previewed the item in the store and the colors….the colors do not go with our emblem, and honestly doesn’t go with anything my characters wear. It was a complete deal breaker as I know it cannot be dyed.
I was straight up ready to buy gems for it before that realization. I know I’m not the only one.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Just got an idea.
There should be 2 types of this back item:
- One that is similar to the current, showing guild emblem with plain background.
- Another which respresents your server, but not your color in the current matchup.
There should be an emblem for each server, and on one side of the flag there appears the emblem, and on the other side there is the name of the server.
Make this server based back item available at Battle Historian NPC for WvW Tournament Tickets.
Why does this thread not get the love it deserves. Huge bump from page 15++
I’d love to see this exact banner with neutral colors! Make it twice as expensive, i’d stil buy it. That orange just does not go well with anything.
