Can we have other metal nodes than Mithril in 80 areas?

It’s as inconvenient as it’s just plain silly that Mithril is the most common metal in the entire game… It drops from all the Heavy trash you find. And all the areas that are filled with players have only Mithril nodes. It’s becoming a weed in this sense…

The current state of metal nodes also encourages farming as it’s only way to acquire large amounts of other metal types.

Fix it! Thanks!

Done! You can now find orichalcum nodes in level 80 areas.

You’re welcome.

Well, considering it drops from level 80 gear, and is located in level 80 areas….

Oh right, it is a level 80 material. Which, most people are. Of course there are going to be common drops for it. If you really need to find some want to dispose of it, find wvw guilds on your server, they like it for their siege. Or collection 250 and sell it for 2g.

If you want iron, and platinum, you know what zones those are in, and are welcome to go there for them.

And basically, you described farming. Nodes are just that, farming nodes. What else do you do besides go up and farm the node? o.O

Hmm… I really like to just enjoy the game, events etc… So for me, the necessity of running through areas just to get iron is really annoying and seems awkward.

Also Iron is used by level 80 characters for crafting… So… It really seems like natural thing to do to add couple of iron/platinum nodes into level 80 areas.

Thanks!

  • 11 zones have mithril as a primary node (4 HoT zones, 3 post-launch core zones, and 4 at-launch zones)
  • 2 additional zones include mithril as potential nodes
  • 29 zones do not have mithril as potential nodes.

You want more of something else? Head for the other zones.

The Mithril Nodes of the HoT-Zones and Southsun Cove should get completely replaced imo, the game has already with the lvl 70 to 80 maps from Orr/Fireheart to Frostgoarge enough maps where you can farm Mithril, more isn’t absolutely needed at all.

For Southsun Cove the Metal Nodes should be all replaced with Iron Nodes, Gold Nodes and AZURITE NODES with Southsun Cove beign the only map, where you can find rich Azurite Nodes that can drop Azurite Orbs.

Fort the HoT-Maps the Mithril Nodes should be all replaced with a random mix of Iron Nodes, Platinum Nodes, Azurite Nodes and Orihalcum Nodes.

All Lvl 80 Maps should have daily the chance to be chosen to be the map of the day, where you can find a rare rich DAMASK NODE to get Damask Ore with that it is a bit easier to get materials for ascended crafting to normalize again the prices of the ascended crafting materials back down to sanity a bit through slihgtly increasing the income of damask and other ascended craftign items (and naturally also the other materials somehow too, for leather you can find some killed rare elonian creatures in Tyria from which you can take their elonian leather ect…)

If ANet won’t remove this obsolete timegating, then this is the only way how I see that it would be possible to increase slightly the income of those materials so that prices could go a bit down again, if there would be a little higher income daily of those materials through random daily chosen high end maps.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

Just look at TP… The prices for low tier metals are 4 times higher than the price for high tier Mithril ore. It’s not about how many zones have certain types of nodes. It’s more about how many people play zones with those types of nodes.

And I’ve already covered why I don’t farm iron ore zones… In short: I rather have fun!

Thanks!

Personally, I’d like to see all nodes on all maps, keeping the level requirement, but distributing it in such a way it reflects realistic statistics.

Yes, it’s about how many people play the zones with the mid-tier nodes. The higher prices for those nodes give an advantage to (a) those who are new to the game (and therefore spending most of their time in those zones) and (b) those who have fun in those zones or who like farming.

It’s fine if you don’t want to farm iron. However, I don’t see why ANet needs to spend time & energy to cater to such personal preference(s).

This. If you don’t want to farm lower-tier metals, don’t. Buy them when you need them, but their main use at 80 is for deldrimor steel ingots, and this makes lower level maps relevant.

Devil’s advocate: Why should higher-tier materials be more expensive, other than pure aesthetics?

I don’t think anyone’s asking to have all mithril replaced in high level zones (well, some are but I don’t agree with them) but it does put a hard throttle on certain progress. Not to mention, I find myself vendoring the high level materials when I cap out my storage and don’t feel like hitting LA or the airship quite yet.

Wouldn’t it be cool to have a gathering mastery or salvaging mastery that gave you a chance of getting lower level material (toggle-able to your needs) among other exclusive perks you can pick from?

I wouldnt mind seeing demand for mithril increased so that I didnt feel as if I was gimping my game rewards by playing in level appropriate zones.

Or perhaps improve scaling so that playing in lower level zones doesnt feel silly.

This game has long had a reputation for poor in game rewards. A situation in which level cap gathering nodes are low value doesnt help that perception..

Mithril count use another decent sink. It’s not vendor trash, yet, but with its prevalence, I don’t bother salvaging heavy/weapons. If it’s trade value goes up, it can be used more efficiently to get other materials on the market.

Putting iron nodes in lvl 80 areas sounds great … But the fact they’re only currently in low level, and people are lazy, is a great income source for new players.

High levels can go slum it and farm iron if they like; newbies have no options. I’d vote for status quo.

I don’t understand why you want nodes to be in places where other players are, unless you want to do both mining and champ train farming at the same time. This would be too much, and all it would do anyway is devalue the other nodes you want, making it cheaper, and then that node might end up being the most common metal.

Then someone will post a thread saying something like “Why is Iron in Orr when it’s so cheap?”
