Q:
“A man chooses; a slave obeys.” | “Want HardMode? Play Ranger!”
Q:
Sorry to came up with again… I’ve been running my “Stylist Service” and I really like I would kill for the opportunity to use heavy & light skins on my Ranger, or else. Sooo just asking what is the current state on this matter?
Pre-answers on possible points:
Hope someone says a point that I can accept ^^
Best Regards,
- Royal
it’s a thematic/stats thing.
Prety sure heavy armour gets more in the way of defensive stats, cloth in offensive, and leather in the middle ground.
And also, can you imagine a thief in heavy armour? Wouldn’t exactly be very stealthy and agile.

We are not talking about stats, just skins.
Ceremonial Plated Outfit on thief = heavy looking thief. Buy it, wear it.
Heavy armor warrior is way better than thief when it comes to running away, anyone who stepped in WvW can tell you that much.
And also, can you imagine a bow shooting rainbow ponies?
If your ranger can wear light armor, I DEMAND that I can put a Rifle skin on each sword that I carry as a Mesmer! It’s like totally lore-friendly and completely the same weight! It’s just a skin guys! With the new common models it’s not like anyone will be thrown off by a dual-rifle wielding mesmer! They can totally tell what’s going on by my spells!
If you are only taking about skins, this would means that they would have to design brand new skins that cross class boundaries. I have no problem with that wish but I will point out that after 2 years of complaints about, for example, medium class and buttcapes/dusters they still release more of these with each new armor. If they don’t even address that and similar complaints then your wish to have mixed armor looks has a chance of close to zero.

Ah, just talking aesthetics, then I would very much like this.
My ranger’s armour looks dopey as heck, and I’d like to be able to do more than just cover it up with a ninja outfit. I’d very much love to have access to the other armour types for aesthetics.
Sorry, misunderstanding on my part, I thought you meant actually equipped different armour classes at once.
Alas, the technical issues are real. The different weights are on different “rigs,” I think the term is. Mixing them causes huge graphics glitches (not clipping — actually serious things like distortions, color and texture bleeds, etc). Thus they’d have to re-rig every single piece of armor in the game before the pieces could play nice together.
I’m speaking about to unlock SKINS to be transmute-able on different weight of item.
So basicly they would greatly increase the armors available and thus combinations.
>> Less need to produce new skins in the future, since mixing would multiply differences.
The technical side wouldn’t be a problem unless the engine doesn’t handles it very effort-saving way. The “Draw Calls”. It may requires a reorder of resources tho. :/
So it may require a rework on it’s architecture, but would totaly worth it IMO.
Don’t you think?
P.s.: Those “buttcapes” should have the same kind of physics as the crafter backpack hanging stuffs, so they don’t clip on move but not even looking weird when standing.
I’ve re-read the posts you guys made and brainstormed again, but yet I didn’t figured out any logic-lock that would really prevent us to do the mixings.
@ Technical issue: We don’t know how it works actualy.
If it would be a ~2000 Gem unlock to do so, would totaly worth it too
Originally, the reason against it was for WvW and PvP since you couldn’t see the profession in WvW and in tPvP you were supposed to pay attention to animation and clothes.
Then outfits became a thing in the April patch.
All gear gives the same stats bar armor, aka slight bonus in toughness.
Mix and matching armor by weights wouldn’t be wearing armor in other weights it would be transmuting, thereby removing the toughness gain/loss.
What bonus Esplen? I’m purely talking about Skins, the Look of the gear.
The plan to notice people by look already ruined by big shot, even if you can spot a profession by look in a zerg, it wears an “uniprof” outfit or pieces that aren’t resembling profession, as well as you can disguise yourself from start, like making a Guardian that looks like a Warrior, or Engineer looking like Thief, Mesmer looking like Elementalist.
This kind of logic works only at games where every profession had their own sets of armors, but that time passed looooong ago, maybe D3 still runs like this, and some minor game.
What about a GemStore Unlock ability to do different weight transmuting?
Imagine the opportunities… Like this guy who would make a nice reaper being Ranger or Warrior. ^^
