Mob stunning players ruin all MMORPGs
Knockdown is a “fun” mechanic.
I just hate combat speed. >.<
That’s one new excuse for another mounts-like-in-WoW thread… Sigh.
Ever heard of waypoints?

At least we heal up while out of combat. If we didn’t then we would easily die like in WoW (unless we are playing a tank or any ranged class).

Clearly you haven’t grasped that waypoints don’t allow you to travel everywhere. You will always have to be bugged by mobs you don’t need to be bugged by – EVEN WHEN PLAYING A SO-CALLED STEALTHED CLASS
WAH! I need mounts so I can’t be dragged in. Well you were in their agro circle. Having mounts won’t change that – if you think it will you really need to play another game.
The higher in level the mobs in the area are the larger the agro circle. Having mounts won’t change that. Also, if they did put mounts in, I would hope they would develop skills for the mods that would deal with mounted players.
I think this really states why the pro-mount people want them, so they can run past other mobs just to farm the champions in a map. One more reason NOT to have mounts.!!
Mobs that only run and hit were left in 80´s games. There should be more threat while running high lvl zones. Deal with it.

I have no problems skipping mobs as both mesmer and guardian (don’t really play other classes at the moment). I don’t even use stealth on my mesmer in open world, really. As for guardian, I can successfully skip all the way from Vine Bridge waypoint to Skritt Queen in lvl 80 Dry Top even past the Legendary Sand Giant with his large AoE and all the AoE-attack mites without getting in combat by using appropriate weapon and utility skills and dodging.
So, I don’t know… L2Skip issue?
I see.
So you would like to have a nice jog through Orr, or maybe Southsun without the local ‘wildlife’ raising an eyebrow at your invasion of their territory?
Please.
Are these mechanics a pain? Yes, they can be.
You need to adapt or get better at avoiding them. If you have made it to these areas, then presumably you have learned enough about the game to avoid or negate the majority of these effects.
BTW: Orr was much, much worse when the game launched. The risen density was far higher than it is today. So many complaints were generated that Anet nerfed the zone population.
If you had been making this argument back then, I would be 100% behind you.
Today, there is really nothing to complain about.
Have to agree with you there. Every single mmo out there has had some kind of slow mechanic that occurs during being “targeted”. LOTRO for example when it launched actually had a slowing debuff if any mob looked in your direction, it was called terror. It had the eye of sauron as a symbol and it would literally slow you to a crawl. Now I dunno about you but if a monster was chasing me the last thing I would be doing is walking slower than when I was on my way to the kitchen to fix a sandwich.
CC in mobs do nothing but annoy the playerbase, they aren’t realistic. Mobs generally don’t have CC from across the whole continent, making them have CC is like making every player into that blonde chick on every horror movie ever made in which they trip while running away, it’s cliche and cheap.
Dodge once in a while maybe? Skirt the aggro radius where you can?
I really don’t typically have that much of an issue with this personally, and I run all over the place with my characters. (Because I don’t like wasting gold on waypoints)
In a lot of MMOs also you were instantly dismounted when a mob attacks you.
That was especially annoying when you needed 3-4 seconds to recall your mount.
So in that case running was often better than using that godkitten ed horse
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Hey OP, I don’t know if you watch DBZ abridged… but you should really learn how to DOOOOODGE. Anyway, stop complaining and get good. You know, if a beaver is hindering your progress you can:
1. Run around it.
2. Dodge past it.
3. Use blocks/invuln skills.
4. Condi cleanse.
5. Kill it (I’d prefer that you didn’t beavers are amazing).
This isn’t WoW so stop comparing GW2 to that game. There are a lot of things this game can do that WoW can’t, so what?
you do understand even skipping foe require some skill right? Thats possibly the most basic control skill that every mmo game out there. I guess you didn’t buy a game and expect every enemy is dummy target right? Sure they have some power to block your way because they are no dummy.
You do realize that even WoW is leaning towards ditching flying mounts now, right? And they have more opposition against losing flying mounts than game this game has support for ground mounts.
Stuns are currently pretty much the only way the open world mobs can hurt you. Sometimes. Rarely. Not really.

But really, I never felt more disconnected with an MMO than when WoW introduced flying mounts. I didn’t mind it in Outlands, but I loathed it once it hit outside of Outlands. Made world PvP less interesting as well. (Seriously, you could fly all the way to the City Leaders. Booooring. I killed the City leaders when there was no flying mounts. Grand experience that was)
I hope this game never sees mounts, and if there are mounts, they don’t increase your speed, they’re just a cosmetic (Kind of like the Broom, or even the drill if you count that).

Man I love my flying mounts( aesthetically) but boy do I love my ground mounts more. It took me months, if not at least a year trying to get Ravendire’s Mount on my alliance character. Not to mention I finally got the Brewmasters Kodo as well. My Spectral Tiger mount as well.
I only fly when I’m in a hurry or bored. Other wise, Ground mounts always.

Personally for me I don’t mind having to sometimes actually pay attention to the path I take through a zone, so much of this game allows you to sleepwalk through it already. As an aside the zones are simply not big enough to support a mount that allows you to skip past mobs without fear of being attacked. The only reason the game world feels as large as it does is because of the relative speed in which you can move through them. If you truly are having such a difficult time figuring out how to get around being stunned or cc’d in some way I would suggest the issue is more with you than with the game design. I don’t mean that to be snarky, it’s just that every class has ways of dealing with that issue, it just simply requires you to be at your keyboard.
These mobs are causing you trouble? Well they are meant to. Orr is meant to be a war zone. If you want mobs that stand and wait until you hit them then go back to level 1 neutral mobs mobs in Queensdale.
Before you complain that WoW and GW2 are making things difficult, just think back to old Everquest I. Mobs would chase players all the way across a zone, which was not only a problem for that player but a fatal problem everyone else en route. Roving high level mobs were in even the newbie zones and they could one shot any character that wasn’t watching out. This was of course well before mounts and waypoints and you had to run everywhere. Think how much fun it would be run from Lion’s Arch to CoF each time you wanted to do a dungeon. If you wanted to travel between continents you had to sit on a boat for 15 minutes and hope a bug didn’t drop you in the ocean.
Compared to that, if you have trouble traveling across GW2 you are creating your own problems. It is straightforward to dodge, use your stun breaks, clear your conditions, use movement skills, and whatever else.
I seldom find this to be an issue while I’m on the move. I keep visual track of mobs, skirt around them or bully past them. Eventually, the combat-slow wears off, and I’m on my way. It’s a tad more irritating when it’s on a character with no speed boosts.
Or, y’know, just kill the ruddy things. Mobs have loot. Sometimes. =P
I generally find mob CC to be more irritating because it lasts significantly longer than player CC, they do it much more frequently, and they always start without the cooldown, so it’s the first thing they spam.
No more than 5 seconds into a fight, there’s that fast-charge 5-second knockdown or chain-daze that is flat inappropriate for an action MMO.

I would say if you played GW2 back at launch before they toned Orr down then the Orr we have now would be like night and day in difference. It was quite frustrating before even if you weren’t trying to run through the map (pull, stun, etc like 3 times in a row, etc.). But Orr is meant to be a pretty dangerous area so I can’t really complain; especially compared to before.
I personally run with cleanses and stun breakers regularly so most CC is not an issue. And I think most classes have abilities that can deal with these issues. I’d say if you are planning on running through an area rather then fighting, just switch up your skills to useful deterrents. Heck even pets and summons are great aggro deterrents if you are wanting to run through populated areas.
I understand your distaste for CC. As in other MMOs it can be even more frustrating. But GW2 offers some acceptable ways to deal. Besides unless you aggro’d a massive amount of stuff, its easier to just stop and kill them if you get stuck.
I’m confused. I am rarely ‘CC/stunned/chilled’ by mobs I’m just passing by.
Are you confusing the speed at which characters ‘run’ in combat mode with being ‘CC/stunned/chilled’? If so, then that would be a different matter, altogether.
Btw, where are these beavers? I’ve yet to encounter them.
